I got say, He is one of best youtuber's tutorial teacher what ever you want to call it, besides me having a great time laughing at his jokes like flipy, thank you for watching when he just merged the nodes makes me laugh so hard i got stop the video lol,and that motivates me to learn even more, instead of been too serious and boring. so Thank you very much!!
I’ve been basking comfortably in my comfort zone doing VFX work in After Effects (aaannnnnddd Mocha, SynthEyes, Red Giant, etc) but thanks to all your PEER PRESSURE... CASEY... I’m gonna give this a go in DR. I am getting pretty tired of all the time wasted on rendering out image sequences bouncing footage back and forth between DR and AE. Thanks for the vid, Casey!..... ya pusher...
Great work on this - you make it look effortless! Side note for whomever shot the scene: when you shoot a pistol it will recoil upward, not downward, upon firing the weapon. Even if you have very strong wrists and arms you’re not going to stop this from happening.
Love the videos Casey.. I even look forward to the awkward sign offs.. Always brings a smile.. hey I was just wondering if you could do a light Saber effect video sometime?...cheers and thanks for the content..
my new favorite line..."it doesn't really matter...it looks cool" hahaha! These posts always brighten my day. OH...and I DID want to mention that I love the new cinematic look to the intros with the nice fancy rim lighting and blue background...very "Parker Walbeck-ish"
What’s actually cool about this is that the size of your flash is not way too big or unrealistic. Muzzle flashes are usually the size of handguns and almost the size assault rifles, with the smoke being even bigger.
Hi Casey. I know you made this a while back. I am a musician and have started doing music videos. You are an excellent teacher and I appreciate your tips. I intend to use this effect for my next video with fire coming out of my trumpet for this. Good stuff!
Apologies if you've already done this but , as a beginner I'm still in that basic cut and edit phase, I don't know the power of VFX in resolve, even basic things like masking and removing things from shots etc. So any videos that showcase and show you how to do different effects and things etc would be really great . It's hard sometimes to think outside the box with creativity when you don't know how far you can push it
You don't see Mussel flashes in daylight. You see un burned Gun powder. That said it would be nice if you made the files availed for down load so we could follow along & chapters might help too. Just saying the easier you make it the more viewers you will pick up. JMHO.
Another Great video Casey thank You! Can you please make one on how to undo brushstrokes and other things? Im used to Photoshop and the history function but cant figure out how to undo all the mistakes / experiments I do & end up having to constantly restart with a clean slate. Please make a video on how to fix fuckups :)
Probably won't get an answer but worth a try. Say the camera was moving and you needed to track the gun slide mask. Where would you place the tracker since there's already a merge node in that setup?
Good video, very helpful. I only have a problem. When I create the polygon the objects appears at the begginin of the video and last until the end. How can I do to make it last exacly 1 frame or 2 frames?
Hello Casey I have a question when I make my muzzle flash and I want to use it at a different Time in the Clip so I have to redo the whole thing or can I just use the same nodes and how would I do that
I'm using full DaVivci 17 and I can't get the VFX file to show up in Fusion. I drag it in like you did and it's just a blank pane even when I select it. I'm so frustrated!!! What the heck am I doing wrong?
question: You now covered how to import vfx for footage that is filmed from the front of the gun. But how about "shoulder view cameras"? bcs now the muzzle flash should be in front of the gun right? so you can only see a ring of flames around the gun. Or are there separate stock vfx for that? @Casey Faris
Even though I made everything exactly the same like you my 9mm Brass Shell Video does not appear in my video. (However it shows in the preview in the media pool.)
i wish i was this experienced with the fusion page. half of the tools feel like they dont do anything lol but of course its cause i dont know whats going on. i do have a question. is it better to have a bunch of images comped into fusion or it doesnt matter. cause i had an animation comped on my timeline and my computer was dying lol
okay I shot on log as well but I got a problem. I did every step exactly like yours but my "muzzle flash" looks normal in fusion but any other page the colors are messed up. even after putting it in screen mode.. :c please help
And this is how we get Megan Fox looking at an engine with fuel injection while reciting a line that suggests the engine is carbureted. “It just doesn’t matter. It just needs to look cool.” Fucking Hollywood. The brass is NOT in the air while the muzzle blast is still exiting the gun. Jesus, when you say you don’t know much about guns, you’re being extremely generous.
Hello, Casey, Thank you for putting up this tutorial. I'm trying to follow along, but somehow in fusion things don't work the way they do with you. as soon as I use the polygon, I connect it to the green arrow but nothing happens. I have used all the settings you did in the video, and even if I put the polygon in the blue arrow of the footage (as you did in your example) I do not get a cut out image. I just get a black image instead. I must be forgetting something....can you help me out?
Hey Casey do you have any news on the youtube training course you had mentioned in a video a couple weeks ago? I did the one you posted and really liked it but have not been able to figure out if the rest is already released and I just missed it
@@CaseyFaris i mean like when the gun fires, there is so much light that the entire image brightens for one frame and you can see like the light flashing on the tree sorta like a reflection. i am sorta beginner so i will add a link to what i mean but for after effects tutorial ua-cam.com/video/bxgN8opeKdg/v-deo.html fast forward to 3:43 in the video to understand what i am trying to say here, i do apologize i am beginner i also have another idea where you can matte out like a part of the actors face and add some extra light to there compared to other areas because i noticed when watching reference footage of actual gun shots in youtube that cause their light is so close to muzzle flash it reflects more light and is more brighter, really appreciate that you see comments man, thank you

The great thing isn't your editing, it's you passion and your enthusiasm and your charisma 😄👍🏾👏🏾
Is that a compliment or an insult? *wink-wink* :P
@@Magnetar47 a compliment
Wow, incredible what you can do in a frame or three to really beef up a shot. Your creativeness is astounding! Well done!
Respect for the fx artists that have to do this for each gun fired in an action movie
Casey: Realistic is boring, that's why we make movies
Also Casey a few minutes later: let's make it more realistic
"I used the stones to destroy the stones"
gotta make non-reality a reality hahahaha
Right. Haha
I feel like I’m being taught Resolve by Deadpool! Utter coolness

Amazing. It's as much fun as Photoshop but with the added dimension of motion. That looks even MORE fun! 😀
This tutorial is sooo well made man, thank you so much!!

Wow just wow, your instructions are just so easy to follow, love love it.

This is awesome, my laptop probably can't handle all of that so I gotta keep it simple.
Incredible and helpful !!! My AE is always crashing 😂so I was really eager to find a DaVinci tutorial. Thank u so much ❤
Awesome! A little look into what goes into movie/TV editing inside just 1 to 2 frames.
Wonderful man, you are a genius, the way you explain everything that's really great ...
Very cool, a big help, fantastic. Thanx for your sharing.

i just love listening to this guy lol
Hey thank you for the tutorial. How did everything turn log at the end? Wasn’t the shell and flash in rec 709?
Fabulous, you are the BEST!
i'll remember frame 19 for the rest of my life
Love the energy man. If you want to learn anything about weapons look up Instructor Zero. I'm a combat vet and I follow his teachings.
my goal is to make fusion look this easy.... greal work !
Yes, very great ideas 🙂
Good stuff mate keep them coming
great tutorial!
I like your personality 💕
Great video!
very nice great work , thank you .
Dude you thought of aspects i never would've thought of. Flash on the tree and face. Experience vs noob.
you are so amazing!! 😭
Probably won't get an answer but worth a try. Say the camera was moving and you needed to track the gun slide mask. Where would you place the tracker since there's already a merge node in that setup?
It all happens on one frame, so no tracking needed!
Good video, very helpful. I only have a problem. When I create the polygon the objects appears at the begginin of the video and last until the end. How can I do to make it last exacly 1 frame or 2 frames?
Maximum effort!
What about if the gun is in a different perspective? How would you change the perspective of the muzzle flash?
Great tutorial.
great tutorial man!
It never occurred to me that you can use multiple masks on one image node. So this also works on a merge node?
First
Great video, what program do you use to record your screen and highlight the keys that you press in your keyboard?

Earlier today I watched your muzzle flash video on resolve 16 and now you uploaded the same for 17. Lol, what are the odds
As always, a tasty video!
This guyyyyy lmao
Definitely subscribed
Question, could this also be used for lets say a Harry Potter style spell?
I'm just here for the awkward endings :)
pretty good what about sound and shot repetition
Amazing!

Can you do audio spectrum waveform for music?
Do you know where can we find some test clips to practice that out?
Well I have put black video with that effect and how do i remove that blackthing i tried to add some alpha to it but still it didn't work...
does this work the same on the studio as i cant get nothing to work

btw I am using the free version of Resolve 17.0 build 39 on an 2013 Imac on Catalina 64bit

Great!!!!

@@CaseyFaris Cool thank you
The effect doesn't show up in my video when i add it in to fusion, I dragged it in to media one and still there's just nothing. You know why?
Casey, I have followed this guide about 20 times, still cannot get it to work.
hey man how do we add like the light of the muzzle flash affect the actors face and the environment, would love a tutorial for it
But... this is part of the tutorial... so...

Lighting and smoke are key, but ultimately if there's no kickback it won't look real.
just tried everything you did to just add the muzzle flash but it wont show. dragged it to fusion, connected it to mediain 1, got the merge but no image. any advices pls ?
have you found any soloution
I love the shit out of NRA endorsed videos! Can you make a blood splatter one next? I promise to sub!
cool
love how dry you are! haha
So Tasty!
the muzzle flash is actually the right size, they should be about the size of the gun
I guess when they were using the gatlin gun scene in Predator, they were doing this instead....they just got someone to chop down the tree and plantations to make it look like the gun was cutting them down
Do one with a laser rifle.
they downloaded on a MOV file. and cant be opened on resolve 17
Actually Hollywood tends to underdo the muzzle flashes, making them much smaller and less accurate than they should be
