I agree with everything! As a 22 year paid professional photographer, I want to add in by saying stop trying to knit pick up on other people settings and being stuck on facebook copy catting, making excuses why you can't. Saying what she said about the gear. You can get a $150 T3i with Mieke 50mm and get absolutely awesome shots even with the 18mp it has. Learn to close your apertures too. Most don't realize they can shoot manual on the fly if they stop over thinking everything as well, that's where all the magic happens. Use your live view to set your exposure because it's exactly what you see is what you get. Don't just flick the knobs to your liking and start firing away, Look at what you did, look and learn the setting you put it at while looking at the light in the shot and REMEMBER it. Then you'll be able to literally look with your eyes one day and you be able to just about dial your setting in before you bust the first shot. Just get out there and shoot! SEPARATE YOUR BACKGROUNDS for those shooting with subjects(Not just setting it to at F1.2 and leaving it there). Separate also means using your exposure and ISO so your shots are not super flat as if you shot on 100% full auto.
If we can't get motivation/clarity after watching this video, then I don't think we ever will. Thanks for laying everything out so clearly and for caring, Laura. ❤🩹🫂
😍 Thank you so much Rachael! So nice to know that you like my videos. Thank you for taking the time to dropping this comment. 🥰 I hope you enjoy my channel! ❤️
As a newbie to photography, you've earned a follow from me! If all your videos are as outstanding as this, then i'm in for one hell of a treat. 👀 Also, I love the story of how you chased your dreams to London. I admire the passion and hope that living here has been amazing!
This is very insightful, I have selft taught myself, you are correct when it comes about experimenting with all. It makes the photographer better. I love hanging out with other photographers but I enjoy when I go on my own and experiment. Mistakes are gonna me made no matter if you are a pro or a beginner. Good to see you outdoors.
Still watching but holycrap! I think this style of video is a game changer. Just the atmosphere and cinematography at the beginning took me back for a second. Really pleasant vibe and gave a strong sense of space. Feeling inspired by this.
Last semester I registered at a local college on their “Digital Media” certificate program. What a waste of time and money. With that 5k I lost there I should I have spent it on more glass and equipment. I learned more with learning packages I got online and UA-cam. At the point that the questions I had for the photography instructor his answers were to check on Google because it was out of his knowledge. If you are not going to be on the medical field or other professions that require a diploma, DON’T DO IT. You will learn more from Laura, other UA-camrs and online by yourself… thank you mama for this video, I’m happy to see your health got better. Un beso y abrazo desde Albany, NY. Pa’ lante chica!
i started a year ago with a Nikon D3200 and i shoot video and photo with only a year experience. I am now learning flash... im using myself, and i post my photos and work as i learn! my social media get to see my growth.
Who knew a year of listening to Estepario Siberiano was prep for listening to your much better sounding voice. That's not a knock, the faster cadence and different syllabic stressing is something to get used to.❤👍😊
nice intro Laura, Variety is useful factor, still updating my website, doing a few courses on topic incl long exposures hope the Sony Kit is working out well.
I love to just take pictures. I have a lot of gear, but it is nothing if I don't learn my camera. I need to spend more time with my camera to learn lighting and compositions. I must take photographs much more often than I do. You are a tremendous help keep doing what you are doing looking to soon become a great photographer and help other like you.
I taught the basics off UA-cam how to set up the camera etc, and then went out by night and started astro landscape photography and my photos was not that great but kept at it and now I’m doing star trails in my photos, and after that I got bored so I started taking pics of dragonflies in flight, birds etc and picked photography up that way, my photos are unique as I did not copy off anyone that have taught me and that’s why a lot of other peoples photos looks alike and are boring.
Great video @Laura. Yes... Awesome lesson for beginner in photography, and it a good reminder for us professional. Put it in practice.. Put it in practice 💯
Thank you so much, I got a lot out of your video. I want to explore more portraits and will for sure practice more on myself so that i can get better with composition. Great tip!
Wow, you nailed the intro! The look and sounds is perfect. As usual, informative, friendly and to the point. I take that as given now with your channel!
Thanks Laura for sharing your experience with great comments... love your presentation with interesting ideas to help me improve....I am only a hobbyist but just love taking pics of whatever comes along.... cheers from Australia 🦘🦘😊❤
Your videos are so inspiring to me. I would love to one day have at least a part time career. I tried long time ago but did not know where to start. Kind of put the camera down. Fell into the trap of I need better equipment. This has inspired me again to get out and shoot. Make time for it
Amazing video Well I have been doing Street Photography since 8 years and until now I use very cheap gear like Nikon D70S and Canon 100D with couple of cheap lenses for both cameras Well between time to time I get that feeling the feel that I need to buy an expensive camera in order to evolve my work But as you said the gear is not a reason to stop doing photography It’s the other side of the coin that we all should look at it In fact limited gear can grow our skills Thank you for this amazing video
This is how we do it Laura ?! You had me thinking last night when you said "You had tons of books ! " Geez ?!😂😂😂 You ain't NEVER LIED 💯🤣🤣🤣 But I liked your comment I saw sometime ago "1 shot ! I'm not perfect" 😂😂😂 I actually take 2 or 3 and keep it moving 💯! 😅 So much to learn !!! Yet I continue to shoot everyday and keep thoughts alive ! 👍 👌 Thanks for the Video and STAY WELL !!! 😊😊😊
I taught myself back in the 80s. Got an Ricoh SLR and went for it. No lessons, No asking people - I had one little black book for reference but I hardly opened it. Then I got a Nikon F3 and have used that ever since.. I hate digital.
My advice to anybody that wants to learn photography is become an assistant to a professional photographer find out how they do it and work out how you can do it too!

Hi, what’s the best camera for beginners to use for personal and professional use ?
Grand Slam, Laura!!! I'll betcha a banana split you will earn your 100K YT plaque by year end. 🤩
It also helps to possess -or be possessed by- a degree of drive, ambition and enterprise similar to that of this lady. Buena Suerte a todos ...
Photography for taking photos does not require school. Just learn from someone else and practice. Same applies to video and audio.
But, if I'm my own model, and terrible at makeup, I worry the end result might be catastrophic, Ma'am.
