God sure blessed our ears with these other worldly voices. Gives me chills.
Original is better. But can’t deny I still love this song.
Agree 100%.
Gwen Girtman As far as remixes go this was pretty good
Its a great mix 😊
Play the RECORD versions, damn.
This is not the original?... Only version I've heard.
Frankie Valli and the four seasons are pop royalty. Total legends. Smooth and cool. Fantastic singing the vocals and harmonies are perfection.
This is a Discoed up version. The original is best. Great song!
Agree totally, their original version of the song was much better. The original had emotion. This version sounds like you covered yourself with butter and danced with the washer in spin.
well put
@@blue-sc1se - there are good songs in every genre - but what I didn't like about many disco songs was the dulling of emotion - there was a superficiality, a sense that one didn't care one way or the other. I think that it was supposed to reflect the anonymity and loneliness of big cities where no one really knew you or cared to really know anyone too deeply. Even Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb had more feeling behind it - more awareness somehow.
@@vaudreelavallee3757 Well, I see why you might feel that way just listening to disco music, but for me as a young man spending way too much time in night clubs back then, it brings back memories. This was the main social activity and way to meet ladies. Had some crazy times!
@@blue-sc1se - it was the richer kids that were into discos - the drinks cost more there and the clothes that looked like lingerie and full slips were expensive. Love at First Bite epitomises the shallow indifferent to the world attitude of the disco era. She agreed to be a vampire because she didn't want to age, did not want to self-reflect, and liked to sleep during the day anyway. It was one endless party.
1993 Re-Mix? Why not the original from 1975 (I don't like re-mixes) but it's still a great song
I agree. The original is better, all that annoying noise ruins the greatness of original. The song Lean on Me is also a remix. They did the same crap to Summer Breeze.
The Billy Joel one?
The original was 1963 by frankie Valle and the four seasons! They wrote it!
@@cherrymcgregor535 The Original was NOT from 1963. It's from 1975, the name of the song is 'December 1963 (Oh What A Night)"
David Roberts oops my apologies .... brain fade .... I should have remembered we danced to this at school discos!
It's Frankie Valli and he's the one sitting in front. He once sang the intro song of GREASE, the movie with J. Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.
You'll notice Franki holds the phones up to his ear when he starts to sing. He was losing his hearing at this time during 1970s. He also does this in the "Who Loves You" video as well. Surgery in 1980 restored most of his hearing.
Love that song too!
It also helps keep time. He is listening to himself. When you sit in front of the drums that’s all you can hear.
Who loves you is awesome too.
I thought he just didn’t want to mess up his hair. 🤣
Pretty sure he has the same thing i've been diagnosed with..otosclerosis
The stright version is sooo much better, the remix takes away from the greatness of the song!!!
Also.. tell it to the rain by Frankie and the 4 seasons is awesome
This is the 1993 remix. which hit #14 on Billboard but the original by the 4 Seasons hit #1 for 3 weeks in 1975.
1976
and with good reason!
This is another favourite yes let’s party woohoo😁💯👍didn’t we have such wonderful music around us back then💯👍❤️
Back in UK I went to watch The Jersey Boys show in London all about Frankie Vali & the four seasons ...loved this song the best . 👍❤️
Same here, best show I've seen
My sister would always request this song, when we were out dancing. I was born in December ‘63!
Late December?
I always liked it when the lead singer would sometimes take a back seat and showcase other members off the band. Very cool and shows diversity.
@Hillary's emails to Lorne yes!!!!!! But this was NOT true with THE FOUR SEASONS!!!!! Bob Gaudio was trying to launch THE FOUR SEASONS as a seperat Act!!!! In otherwords By themselves. Frankie Valli was on a Different recording contact with PRIVATE STOCK Records. The FOUR SEASONS were on WARNER/CURB at the time!!!!!
Gerry Polci, and Don Ciccone were to BE!!!!! the voices of THE FOUR SEASONS!!!!!!
Look up The Four Seasons "HELICON" L.P. from 1977!!!!!!
Frankie stepped down during this time because his hearing was deteriorating.
This song was sung by the drummer who had a great voice.
Yes the great Gerry polci
Great reaction - a rocker myself I took an interest in Frankie Valli after I watched his biopic film Jersey Boys based on the play. Very interesting how the Four Seasons style changed from Doo woo days to this sophisticated 70s piece
When I was in between 7th and 8th grade my grandmother bought me Motown’s Greatest Hits. Discovered Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons among many other legends.
I was fortunate enough to see them in concert while I was in college in the mid 60's
I had fun dancing to this song it was the PERFECT SONG to dance THE BUMP to. What memories .
Wow this song was a big hit back in the 70s. Still sounds new in 2019.
My older sisters used to sing the this every time it came on the top 40 radio station when I was really little back in philly
The bass player who sings the really high falsetto is Don Ciccone, Madonna's uncle.
GREAT song, which is unique by having three lead vocalist.
I had to look at a couple of things. Frankie Valli was Italian heritage, you saw him with an Afro hairdo, don't get mad it was 1975. Ok I kept say this is an older song the video was showing. When when Frankie was actively touring the group was Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons. When this video was shot it was only the 4 Seasons and Frankie made the song what it is so they had him record it and hype it with them. The first time Oh What a Night was released was December 1963. As I already I said what I listened to was in 1975. I didn't check his age, but Frankie was getting up there in years. He didn't use his falsetto voice, but you know that's how it goes.
The beat was also used by Run D.M.C, forget the name of the song but they play part of it at the start of the
"It's Tricky" official video.
Hollywood actor Joe Pesci (Goodfellas, Casino, My Cousin Vinny) was a friend of group member Tommy DeVito. Pesci was around during the group's formation and was responsible for introducing DeVito and Valli to singer/songwriter Bob Gaudio.👍
Wasn't he the cousin of one of them? Or am I remembering that wrong?
@@sadfaery No not related but Joe Pesci did play the character Tommy Devito in the Goodfellas which is his friends name and coincidental so maybe your thinking of that but non were related just friend but without Joe introducing those two the four seasons might not have happened 👍☺️
Love music from back then. Everyone just loved the music and gota long better than now days. Music united us all together
The Lead Singer on this song (Oh What a Night) is Don Ciccone formerly of "The Critters"; he also wrote "Mr. Diengly Sad", a big hit in the 60s.
Love the song but I hated the beat track. Listen to the original.
Frankie Valle & The Four Seasons stepped out of their comfort zone to do this song. I enjoyed this song as a youth in the 70s. BTW, way back when all songs came from another! Church songs included! My Country Tis Of They is the same time as God Save The Queen. Our National Anthem was originally a pub tune! The ABC song, Twinkle Twinkle Little Star, and Baa Baa Black Sheep....all the same tune! Sweet Little Sixteen and Surfin USA....same tune!
There is a film and a stage production of "Jersey Boys" which is the life story of the rise to fame in the 60s of Frankie Valle & the Four Seasons. I was in high school, when they hit the pop charts with one hit after another, so many! We all knew the words to each & every song. See the film; it is amazing.
Great reaction from you. Love that the drummer was singing. I think this was re-released when I was a kid in the 90s as this version. Big hit again and all over the radio. The lyrics are hilarious and it's beyond catchy.
Just seen frankie vallie last Saturday in Chicago. Hes 85 and he still has it going.
When u said your church stole this for the church extravaganza and u played it..and u didbt know they took it from some valley!
OH WHATTA GOD!!..LOLOLOL!!
👏🏽👏🏽🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
You are watching the REMIX of their biggest hit. It was mixed by a Dutch music producer. It went back into the top 10 all over again in the 90's. The drummer Gerry Polci and my high school classmate from Passaic, NJ is the lead vocalist on this song.
Frankie Valli (the guy on the stool) did Grease (is the word) --the song for the movie GREASE-- written by Barry Gibb (Bee Gees)
FRANKIE VALLI is the same guy who sang the song Grease
I first heard this song in 1975. A friend brought the 45 RMP single in to school and we listened to it during a free time between class. I was in the 8th grade.
I fell in love with the 4 Seasons when I was in 6th grade & have followed
them ever since! I can't believe that Frankie Valle is still performing at age 83! He is still hitting those high notes!! This is a good version of the song ,
however, you ought to check out the original or even the 1990's
version ! As you will see, the instrumental is much better! I always love to hear them in any form ! They are
phenomenal ! Thanks for sharing ! Glad you enjoyed listening to them!
I was 7 when this song was released. Seems like forever and a day ago.
Definitely a fun, feel good song. Always thought it was cool being set in Dec 1963, exactly two years before I was born.
MRM, this was one of my favorite reactions from you. I love when your playful nature really comes out as you chastise that Southern church (though they didn’t do anything different than many many others have done).
Keep up the good work!
the video for this was filmed overseas at warner brother studio. The extra's were actually warner brothers employees. This was stored in a vault for many years, probably one reason the song flopped overseas. There's a another one that was filmed in Reno, NV it's on bubblerock on youtube.
I'll check you out often. Love the music and think you do a great Job.....
Thank you for the song brother! It brought back my high school days.
The bass player and falsetto singer is Don Ciccone, Madonna's uncle .Frankie only sings the pre-chorus, in head voice but not falsetto.
Oh yeah this was the song playing on my first date had a blast. Frankie Valli is one of my favorites and we'll be to the day I die. Thanks for great memory. And the church part I'm sorry it's perfectly really funny my husband actually heard that version he was not far from your concert at the church he was doing a construction job there
this is so different than their 3 huge hits "Sherry" "walk Like a Man" and "Big Girls Don't Cry"
That's because the WHOLE band was different. Just look them up on youtube. In the songs you mentioned the members were Tommy DeVito, Frankie Valli, Nick Massi, and Bob Gaudio. On December 1963 the four seasons were Gerry Polci, The late great Don Ciccone, Lee Shapirio, and John Pavia. Frankie Valli at the time was just helping out. A guest so to speak. Bob Gaudio was the writer and producer.
What about "cant take my eyes off of you".
@@noetrevino7055 so easy to forget that one ]:P
@@evilvolts There was NO L.P. titled "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"
Can't Take My eyes Off You, was on the, The 4 seasons present: FRANKIE VALLI SOLO on Phillips Records in 1967. And yes it was recorded during a 4 Seasons recording session. The 4 Seasons members were in 1967, Tommy DeVito, Frankie Valli, Bob Gaudio, and replacement bass player JOE LONG!!!!!!!! Cant take my eyes off you was a single cut from that 1967 L.P. Frankie Valli SOLO was Frankie's first solo album. Timeless was next in 1968.
You should listen to Who Loves You by Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, my Mom's favorite!
Always loved Frankie Vallie grew up with my mom listening to him.
Had a great time with your live stream today Ty. Jersey Boys is a good movie about Frankie Valle's life. Great stuff as always👍✌
TY for the reaction to this great tune..always admired Frankie and the 4 seasons music..great beat, great voices took me back years so TY..watch out the certain church in the south the lawyers are after you for stealing the tune LOL..actually they are busy blocking stuff on You tube LOL Keep checking out more from Frankie Valli he has the most magnificent voice my favourite has always been "Can't Take My Eyes Off You"..Keep Strong Keep Well My Friend
Back in the sixties, when I was a young teen, my friend Mary LOVED the Four Seasons. I remember that about her over everything else. Mary, wherever you are..still remember the good times. ( I thought you were going to say something about the "old-fashioned" plastic straws, guy! )
In that video the group is singing the original version. The Four Seasons or their label didn't remix this. In 1988, Dutch DJ and producer Ben Liebrand remixed the song and re-released it as a single. In 1993, Curb Records, who released the original version of the song, picked up the 1988 remix and released it to the U.S. market. It hit #14 on the charts.
I know that you have touched on the show/movie Grease. Frankie Valli sings the opening credit song, Grease (Is The Word).
You should check out some of his others like Big Girls Don't Cry, Sherry, Stay, Walk Like A Man, and so many more.
This takes me back to 1975 and our junior high dance. Had a crush on a girl and we danced to this. 🙂
Frankie Valle, the Italian Elvis...lol. Grew up loving them.
A 70s remake of the old 1963 hit! Still love it! I love it, you sang this in church!
UMMMMMMMM!!!! It was a 1976 hit. About the year 1963
Oh I remember this song. I was so young.....Thanks MRM xo
My uncle knew the Seasons...he was a sax player in Jersey.... (also knew the Rascals)....I sae them in concert when I was in high school...they were my fave group and shared space with the British Invasion! Check out "Save it for Me" ! Bob Gaudio, yes!
Love watching you enjoy this amazing music!!! Thank you!😁
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks again brother, great music and reaction..thanks for the educational about the song, wow, God bless
From the era of songs you could understand and they had a story to tell. Love those songs.
Can't take my eyes off of you is my fave Frankie Valle song but they have many. They were always the background tracks of the old 70's and 80's mafia movies.
This remix used to be layed all the time in clubs I went to. Memories.
I saw Frankie Vali perform live in the late 70’s or early 80’s. It was during the period that Frankie was trying to work off the gambling debt of one of his former bandmates and was touring like a dog to ensure the guy didn’t get “offed“ by the mob. I didn’t know that at the time, but learned it from watching Jersey Boys live and in film several times.
“Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You” is my favourite FV song.
Ahhhh! Love this song! It's one of my favorites, it's so cool and fun to dance to! It was awesome to see you bobbing your head to the beat and digging it. :)
Oh my goodness such a flashback there Ty. Thanks had me grooving and singing 🎶🕺.
I Love Frankie Valli but is this a remix? It doesn't sound like what I remember.
Yes, a 1993 remix where they added a totally unnecessary dance beat.
Deaky's girl Sounds fine to me
@@Hi-kq1vi thanks I just knew it didn't sound like what I heard
@@personalcheeses8073 it wasn't bad it was just not what I remember
@@justlaura7189 Doobie Brothers had a dancy remix of Long Train Runnin' out that year as well-but that was really good. The dance stuff just doesn't really work that well on this song. ua-cam.com/video/9SRRyD61ZhI/v-deo.html
Previous commenters are right. The original is better. This is a little before my time. I was a month old late Dec 1963. Lol but I certainly remember this song because it got play for many years later. Very cool that you are getting to this older stuff. Its been a tough day here but these oldies I found here have brought so much needed stress relief. Keep doing what you do. Its a blessing. And dont just mean the music reaction videos.
Love your reaction. I still have the original 45 of this song. Still enjoy hearing it.
Frankie Valli just did the chorus with the headset because I think he was having hearing problems then and the drummer was helping the group with lead vocals. You should really do some of the stuff from the 60’s which emphasize Frankie Valli’s incredible voice with the original group. The history of the group is very interesting . Jersey Boys, a play and movie are a good watch to get an idea of the groups history.
No!!!! The Drummer and the Bass player were to be the VOICE of The Four Seasons!!!!! Frankie was going SOLO!!!!!! with Private Stock Records!!!!!!! Look up THE FOUR SEASONS "HELICON"!!!!! Or FRANKIE VALLI "CLOSE UP". Read the labels.
Just a Freakin' feel good era song...still love it after the decades...one f the best one-night-stand songs ever made.
If you like Frankie Valle singing on this, you will probably like him singing "Rag Doll", in the Four Seasons.
I remember hearing this song on the Armed Forces Network Radio in Germany way back in 1974!
I heard this when it was new and I was young. Being the daughter of a Hellfire and Brimstone Southern Country Preacher I had to do my dancing in the dark. But you can be sure everything in the barn was grooving to the beat.
I LOVED this song when I was like 8! lol I bugged my parents mercilessly for quarters to play this on the jukebox over and over! 🤠
Oh Ty. I do love you! Great reaction !
it's all about Gerry Polci's vocals. amazing voice.
I loved the movie they made about them-- "Jersey Boys." It was originally a Broadway musical.
Frankie Valle is the 2nd singer here. See the movie Jersey Boys to understand how important he is.
One of the songs they used to play in the pub ... was a crowd filler loved it , great memories 💕
I love skating to this song at the skating rink those were the days
I grew up in the 70s in Jersey, and I'm 51 now. I can never get tierd of Frankie Valley
Club Noveau covered Bill Withers’ LEAN ON ME. Yes. This did sound like that. This was a remix that came out in the 90s, but the original, I believe, I like better.
Group has been around from early 60s love them he still sings at special concerts...when they have some groups from the doo wop era.. gotta keep that music alive!
I like the song and another one was Sherry my favorite was in 1976 .
I like how in some musical arrangements the keyboard player is like a receptionist extra in some legal drama or the younger brother on his desktop doing his own thing in the background while his older brother or sister is on webcam.
"Save it for me"...another favorite of mine because of the experimentation with the instruments and the sounds they made.
Child of the 70's. If that doesn't make you want to shake a leg, I don't know what to tell you.
This is the music I grew up with in the 60’s.
I love this guy (modern) because he finds songs from other songs. He has that gift of hearing. and I love this song since I was a kid. Awesome song
This came out around (1976) the disco era but it was a rebooted song. Still love the song. Oh, one thing I must mention, I'm not rolling thunder, I'm the lightning. Cause Lightning does the damage, thunder only makes the noise.
The Broadway show "Jersey Boys" is based on the story of this group. Great musical!
Don't know (or care) if anyone here will believe it, but this song was written by my mother's sister, my aunt Judy (Gaudio) and her husband Bob an original Season.
Early twenties when this song would come on in the clubs, everyone would rush for the dance floor.
This was a hit in the 70’s and the 80’s
There is a Musical called "Oh what a Night" which has this and some other great songs from the around the same time. If you get the chance to see it I would say get your tickets at once
This is a later remix with some extra percussion and keyboards added. From the apparent age of the guys the video was made in 1976 or so
Original version was #1 song in '76. The Seasons career from 1962-1976 is very intriguing. You should check it out!
Oh!!! yes The MOTOWN YEARS!!!!!! That's how they got their bounce back!!!!
i think youre the only one i seen saying dont sub till you check further.. i like that..
