I bought the Mini5 direct from DDPAI and I can confirm the video quality is excellent. However there are two major flaws with this unit. Hardwiring this unit is easy, but the dormancy mode that is supposed to wake up after a collision and switch itself off if the battery voltage dips below 12.4V does not work, so it just drains your battery. I provided the evidence to DDPAI, who first told me to set it to a lower value. This is crazy and doesn't work either, so they told me to just connect both wires to the ACC fuse and not use dormancy mode. I bought the camera for the dormancy mode feature, so this is a bit of a lemon. Also, the speed sensor doesn't work, so my footage just displays zero mph or kph. I am using their latest firmware. I've sent my settings to DDPAI, but they won't respond to any queries.

These are indeed two very disturbing issues. And to me it sounds like it may be a defect unit.
@@TechMishka the unit isn't defective per say. It is monitoring the Voltage and it knows that it is below the set 12.4V. However, their firmware is badly coded, so it doesn't switch the camera off. I'm having to wait for a newer firmware release, but DDPAI can't confirm when they will release a bug fix.

After owning a dozen cameras, DDPAI 3 and 5 have been the best. I mount them behind the cars safety cameras so they are out of the sun, more discrete, shades the lens, and reduces file sizes because I block the top 30% of the camera. Don't need to record the sky! Would love to see a 4K 60fps option in future models
I also think that these are rather underrated cameras. Just excellent!

As far as I remember there is no motion sensor
the 24h parking mode when you hardwire the dashcam will drain the car battery if you dont use your car for few days or there is no risk?
The hard-wire kit module has undervoltage protection. So no worries about that.

While I'm a fan of both brands, I like the DDPAI's software part better and like the hot-plug option a lot.
You have yours installed onto a clear sheet that is on your windshield...where do you get that ?? I want to avoid the sticky directly onto my tinted windshield.
This is a basic smartphone screen folio. Go to the local shot and buy a few random pieces - they would do fine.

I bought this cam based on your review. So far, I am really happy with my purchase. Thank you. It would have been nice if there was a way to quickly save an important event. My previous cam had a button you can press, and it would save the video and image. I miss this feature

For a bigger screen, I would like to mount a tablet in my car, and connect it to dashcam. I would also like to use the tablet for google maps navigating. Is it possible to connect your phone also, to provide internet. It has to be live, as traffic situation is important. Thx.
Lars, in such a case better get something designed for that purpose. There are many android-based models for different cars that could be installed instead of the original car's audio player.

Forget the app. The dashcam starts recording as soon as the engine starts. And then stops recording when you shut the car off.
The app is useful for downloading the recordings. Read the user manual too.
your opinion about this one or Z50 and X5 pro please, count on the price/quality ratio.

I have a problem. My acc plug/cigarette lighter plug for you old people, has constant power. The camera light will only come and go blue on if I start the car and unplug then plug in the connector. Help!
DDPai have a mode for such occasions - check the app settings.

This is not other vehicle's speeds - it should be the distance to those. It automatically shows in the app - when you browse through the footage.

Love my camera, over 2 years now. Only flaw is that files can't be deleted from camera via app. You have to plug camera into a USB port on a PC, then delete files. This is extremely frustrating to me. Yes, i know the camera overwrites files, but on a long journey (and I cant just pop another SD card in, as it doesn't have one), i need to delete some files to make room for newer ones. Also, for what ever reason, the also records duplicate clips on each and every clip. The duplicate clips are in a folder called "small" when connected to a PC. These files are about 1/4 of the size of the original clip, but still even this will fill your camera's capacity extremely fast. No idea why the camera duplicates each clip, as I see no setting to turn it off
The small clips are for playback - when you review the files in the app, it uses the smaller files.

Hm, I do have the international version and Adas was working fine. Could be that they've pushed an update disabling it.
@Tech4All the version on my ddpai is v7.2.1.7 and seems like its disabled in it i tried putting v7.0.0.15 but camera always boots up with newer firmware

Depends on the resolution and codec used. If you redord at 1080p, h.265 - could be quite a good amount. You may squeeze close to 10 hrs.

Each clip is recorded in a smalle file on the camera- which when connected to a PC, you will see a folder called "small", and there you will see all the clips you recored, but in a smaller file size- approx 1/4 smaller, but this still fills up the dash cam fast. Not sure why it does this. Also, no files can be delted form cam via the app. You must connect to PC to delete any files.
Does this need to be hooked up to the internet all the time while driving for the timestamp/GPS to work or just for setting up.
The GPS is in-built. The app visualizes the route once you get to download the vids

Yes; 2 reasons: this one has supercapacitor, and has proper parking mode.

No SIM card slot. It has a wi-fi hotspot in-built and the phone&app connect to this hotspot.

If there was a rear-module, that was about to immediately become my daily driver 😉 But ... not at this point...

Hm, this is weird. Might be the phone that you use, or could be something down to the permissions. Double check these as a starter.

seems nice, altho price point of 134€ for single cam + only option from china means duties 20% , while viofo a129 pro duo is around 190-200€ with full warranty 2 years and dual camera. Price is way too much imo, woner if it actually does have advanced parking features or only g sensor ones
Hey Viliam, good to hear from you. There used to be availability in some EU stores, but looks like it's gone after the Amazon Prime day sales. There likely is stock in EU warehouses from Aliexpress too.
As for parking - there's the timelapse option which I believe is very reliable. Been using it for couple of years and is perfect.

Do you think I can use this dash cam as an driver passenger cam (I mean it record nice in the night?) I'm an Uber driver and I really like this camera, I'd buy one. But I would really like to have 2, because of the emmc storage. And one of those two, I want it to record the passengers and myself. Things in Mexico are pretty hard and I don't want to get involve in false charges. Thanks.
Jose, it will be much easier to get a dashcamera which is designed to do that. Viofo have pretty good models.
DDPAI mini5 not showing in wi-fi list sumsung a20, why?
The A20 only supports 2.4GHz wifi. Unfortunately it isn't compatible with this cameras 5GHz wifi network.

It is more of an upgrade to DDPAI Mini 2.

Some flash options are quite good. There's a Mini 3 inside my wife's car. 4 years everyday driving and zero issues.

Mini 5 has clearly better image quality. The Z40 is something I hope to find the time to test soon.

@@TechMishka they removed it. Their answer The mini5 overseas version doesn't support ADAS. Also no video preview on the Android 10 headunit. I regret buying this instead of 70mai m500
