They had the best MTV unplugged in my opinion. Nutshell is a must react from that show.. so powerful. Felt like his goodbye performance (Layne died years later from an overdose)
Chris Cornell said if he never heard another song about strippers and partying and the wild life he'd be happy. He wanted to write and sing about human emotions and life and pain.
Vulnerable…. “Nutshell” Also check out Mad Season… formed in 1994 as a side project of members of other bands in the Seattle grunge scene.[4] The band's principal members included guitarist Mike McCready of Pearl Jam, lead singer Layne Staley of Alice in Chains, drummer Barrett Martin of Screaming Trees, and bassist John Baker Saunders. Mad Season released only one album, Above, in March 1995. Its first single, "River of Deceit", was a radio success, and Above was certified a gold record by the RIAA in June. The band went on a semi-permanent hiatus in 1996 due to the band members' conflicting schedules and Staley's problems with substance abuse. Attempts were made in the late 1990s to revive the group with Screaming Trees frontman Mark Lanegan instead of Staley, and material for a follow-up release to Above had been worked on. The band permanently dissolved in 1999 following the death of bassist John Baker Saunders from a drug overdose. Staley would also die from an overdose three years later. Martin and McCready have since made two short partial reunions, one in 2012 and one from 2014 to 2015. A special edition box set containing a remastered edition of Above and various unreleased material was released in March 2013.
He wrote this song about his x fiancé and life long love Demri who died in 1996. After her death it was truly over for him. He also wrote the song Died about her. The words of that song tell you everything. You don’t listen to Layne, you feel him.
@@deathmetalmaui Your comment makes no sense. He wrote the song about his love/hate for her in 1990, and she died in 1996. What part of that are you struggling to understand, because to be honest, even a five year old could understand such simplicity.
Wonderful band. RIP Layne. So many great tracks came from these guys. Man in the box, Down in a Hole, Dam that River, Them Bones, Nutshell, just to name a few. Will watch every reaction you do to this band. Much love
Couldn’t have gotten a better entrance into Alice In Chains. This is peak Layne and Alice In Chains. Part of their story is how Layne’s “agonized wailing” mirrored his personal life and the bands existence with Layne. Legend gone too soon, RIP Layne! My favorite grunge band just ahead of Soundgarden.
Era of 90s rock is the best, so many great bands produced during that time that are timeless, Tool, Alice In Chains, Pearl Jam, Soundgarden, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, Red Hot Chili Peppers, faith no more, NIN, Pantera, Blind Melon, Radiohead, to name just a few. List could go on and on
Chatter:"He reminds me of Eddie Vedder a bit" Funny because Pearl Jam opened for Alice at this concert & they weren't even called Pearl Jam yet they were called Mookie Blaylock. AIC sold over 30 million records i'd say they're pretty big, Unfortunately the lead singer(Layne) passed away in 2002, though AIC still make music today mostly because the main song writer for the band Jerry Cantrell is still alive.
Layne was the best of the best. React to Bleed The Freak live at the Moore, and Down In A Hole MTV Unplugged. He also was the vocalist for supergroup Mad Season. RIP sweet Layne.
You definitely need to listen to Tool, the sing Sober either kive in 92 or 93 where Maynard is wearing the pink onesie or the album version. They were grunge but so dar ahead if their time, you need to start there then "experience the band that is Tool" going forward through each album. ❤ Laura from Boston. Thank u fir tour reaction!
Definitely a hell of an intro to the band, one of their most epic songs. Even tho it was a track on their debut, it was very indicative of the direction they would take.
Grunge was one of my favorite. I just don’t understand what it was about this genre that made so many of the lead singers leave us. Such great talent gone way too young.
Bro when Alice n chains dropped this album, I was on my way to school. It made me love Rock and the warning made me fall back in love. Soundgarden, Nervana, pearl jam. U would like pearl jam indifference, trust... Doogie
thanks to "thewrongfrank" for his donation and your introduction to AIC with this live masterpiece. I love to watch reactions from you and other musicians or artists, because you always explain stuff that I don't know, like a slow bpm means vulnerability... I just know about music if I like it or not. And definitely I grew up with grunge and I also agree that is my favourite genre because despite of being badasses with electric guitars, their lyrics were always raw, real and vulnerable. Check Chris Cornell and Soundgarden next yes, Alice in Chains, Pearl Jam, Nirvana, Stone Temple Pilots... great bands, great lyrics and the best, all of them could literally and actually sing! not like nowadays!
Layne passed, Jerry the lead guitarist and band members continued on with a new front man. Never be another Layne Staley but AIC will forever be the best grunge band of all time❤!
A must deep dive from the album Dirt, EP jar of flies to live performances like this one and unplugged. Simply incredible lyrics and harmonies. My favorite grunge band by far.
Think he overdosed on methadone not heroin think he was taking methadone and some form of anxiety pills is what killed him. He was on that Celebrity Rehab show around the time he died. Seems like its been 14 or 15 years now something like that
I didn’t realize you hadn’t listened to (or even heard of) AIC. A lot of us would love to experience that journey once again, so we watch others experience and enjoy them for their time. RIP Layne Staley (vocals) and Mike Starr (bass guitar). Sadly, Layne died of an overdose 8 years TO THE DAY after Kurt Cobain of Nirvana (Another Seattle-based grunge band that arguably created the underground grunge genre we know and love) who died from suicide after a long battle with drug abuse himself.
Oh you like Grunge? Wanna check out it's roots and supergroups? Green River and Mother Love Bone are 2 early mainstay bands you wanna check out as the main catalyst for the "grunge" sound. Mad Season and Candlebox are two "Supergroups" to check out as well.
Damn bro this is one of the most amazing live performances of one of my favorite bands of all time. It's just fucking tragic what happened to Layne, addiction is a bitch
@@inhouseatx First thing I am not a bro! Yes AOC is one of my favorite bands. Just telling him to check out creed I still to this day have many playlists with AOC in them. Creed was one of the first drop d tuning. Trying to get him to listen because he wanted grunge so give a woman a break
@nancyshumway2251 Oops...my apologies...#1 The term "Grunge " is despised by all Seattle musicians/ bands...If anything it's Sub Pop..Or just Alternative...But younare a lady so you get a pass...lol
Alice In Chains is a DEEP rabbit hole. Layne has a tragic story. The music and lyrics are literally to die for. You will grow spiritually from it.
I can’t listen to most songs when I’m sober and happy in all honesty
Best grunge band period. So many great songs.
They never considered themselves ‘grunge’ . Layne always said that their music that they played was what they felt was right for them.
One of the Best vocalist Ever… RIP Layne 🙏
We are so lucky that this incredible performance was captured on video. Still one of the greatest live rock performances ever.
Their unplugged show is 🔥
This one is better. You get to see PRIME Layne

*looks up a giant picture of Layne In my room* ❤ Rip Layne still one of the best voices , he has a way of making you feel the emotions in every song

HOLY SHIT!!! Ohhh, You gotta do more AIC. I wish I could discover them again for the first time.

oh no. Good this is your first song. They have so so much to their catalogue. My fav grunge band

Ha haa is this a big band. Man, they’re one of the best bands ever and even other rock stars will tell you that.
As someone in chat said , definitely one of the big four of grunge, imo Soundgarden, Alice in chains, pearl jam, and Nirvana are the best of the bunch
seen this live in concert when I was in high school in the 90s amazing Layne voice was the best and jerry on guitar and back vocals the best
You found my all time legends. Layne, a one of a kind voice.
Lot of people missed out and yet can rediscover air the band made of pure emotional music , the new standard for excellence in my opinion

Jerry is still making great music. New song just a few days ago.
Layne was the best of the best. React to Bleed The Freak live at the Moore, and Down In A Hole MTV Unplugged. He also was the vocalist for supergroup Mad Season. RIP sweet Layne.
"I live for you but I'm not alive" 💯👏👍❤️
frickin Layne, man 😢💜
Layne was the 🐐 Also the most tragic story. RIP Layne ❤
I'm a lucky man to have been able to see the OG lineups of AIC, Nirvana, Soundgarden, etc. live.
Damn, the passion and pain echoes from his tortured soul. This is simply amazing!
Sir Jerry Cantrell, lead guitar. AKA The Riff Lord. You're watching LEGENDS.
"Bleed the freak" and "Man in the box" from the same concert (Live at the Moore) are a must.
Layne compares to Janis Joplin..he is the greatest vocalist straight up.
I totally agree!!!!
There's no other vocalist like Layne. ❤❤❤ Listen to their MTV Unplugged, listen to Facelift and Dirt. Then listen to Mad Season live at the Moore.
Phenomenal song
Wait until you listen to songs with Layne and Jerry Cantrell harmonizing. Mystical and magical.
Layne will break your heart and you won’t be mad about it. 💔
Ugh, I love him so much. #RipLanye❤️🙏🏻
Alice in Chains hands down the best band of the 90s

My man Layne. The GOAT ❤❤
Definitely a hell of an intro to the band, one of their most epic songs. Even tho it was a track on their debut, it was very indicative of the direction they would take.
“This song is about pain” RIP Layne & Mike ❤️🩹
Check out black hole sun by Soundgarden to get into them, really amazing band!
Rock in power brother Layne
What a place to start!
Try their album "Dirt." All Bangers!
Definitely one of my top 3 favorite AIC songs
Grunge was one of my favorite. I just don’t understand what it was about this genre that made so many of the lead singers leave us. Such great talent gone way too young.
You've got to watch some others, they're not so heavy. Rooster and Man In The Box are the favorites, but Down In A Hole from Unplugged is so, so raw

Man in the box.
My brother in christ alice in chains is the best grunge band with the best vocalist Layne Staley. You have to check out their MTV unplugged.

RIP 💔🕊️
Layne T. Staley

Bass player Mike Starr, Also gone Heroin OD
Same situation.,He partied with Layne all the time
Think he overdosed on methadone not heroin think he was taking methadone and some form of anxiety pills is what killed him. He was on that Celebrity Rehab show around the time he died. Seems like its been 14 or 15 years now something like that
I was at this show and OMG the whole show was this good the best concert i have ever heard
Grunge the most?? Yeah bro, preach!

Layne Stanley was unquestionably the best pure vocalist for his genre. So powerful and full of emotion.
My fav band after tool. Every song from them(with Layne) is a hit. Must do more.
Alex Terrible just uploaded a live version of Viking! You gotta listen to that! Or the one take of Viking on his channel from a few months ago!
Oh you like Grunge? Wanna check out it's roots and supergroups? Green River and Mother Love Bone are 2 early mainstay bands you wanna check out as the main catalyst for the "grunge" sound. Mad Season and Candlebox are two "Supergroups" to check out as well.
You should do their song “Would” next. Most powerful voice in rock. RIP Layne
RIP Layne Staley... He was an amazing vocalist but unfortunately lost his battle with heroin addiction.
Damn bro this is one of the most amazing live performances of one of my favorite bands of all time. It's just fucking tragic what happened to Layne, addiction is a bitch
I was sooooooooooooo into Alice In Chains 35 yrs ago. I'm 52. Still into AIC!😊
Check out Soundgarden - Rusty Cage. All of the 90”s grunge bands are incredible.
Just listen to their Dirt album. These guys are my favorite grunge band.
Check out their song Down in a hole
They are playing in drop D tuning which makes it melodic 😊 check out Group called Creed
Check out Alice In Chains Rooster you really love that one
Rooster
You didn't just mention CREED In the same thread as AOC...OMG....Apples and Oranges bro

❤love❤ oh you really need to hear Nutshell
🔥FIRE🔥
AIC is the best of all the others!!! Song after Song of genius.....
AiC 🖤 Layne
Layne died in 2002, AIC reformed in 2005 but they, to me, are not AIC, they ended with Layne.
You Need to know Soundgarden....
Died 2002 heroin overdose
Layne Staley
All his songs were painting a pretty dark picture of what was to come
