    I've loved your design style even before I know how to use any vector software. Now I know why: I love designs with a handmade touch, which look like they're made by human. And thank you for teaching me concepts and possiblities which I was never aware of.

    This is SO helpful! I was so sad switching from Ps to Ai because none of my illustrator friends seemed to know how to guide me in turning my textured png files into vectors without losing tons of texture! My next attempt from here is to create clipping masks using these now vectorized watercolors, fingers crossed!

    To fill in the holes you could create a copy of the image and paste it in place Expand it. Path unite it. Set it to the preferred base colour and send the layer to the back.

    Just a tip. When you need to select a large number of vector shapes of the same color, illustrator actually has a magic wand tool, the same as photoshop. I haven't used it a lot, but it might help when needing to delete those white areas outside the edges.

    Hi, great tutorial, thank you, but I have a question regarding the creation of the watercolor splotch on paper...I have seen tutorial on making different watercolor stains on paper, tutorials on vectorizing stains but I haven't seen a tutorial that teaches you how to make a great splotch on paper, a splotch made to be great for vectorizing. If you closely watch the best vectorized stains they look in a certain way...with darker edges, beautiful effects or combinations inside the splotch, etc. I have scanned different stains and then vectorized them accordingly but the effect obtained does not look very professional...so could you let us into the secret of creating those watercolor stains on paper(because they are the starting point of a good vector/photoshop effect).

    How to get it where it's zoomed in it looks like actual paint does when you bring a physical picture closer to your face? Real life isn't pixel or vector like this. Real life is fractal. Can you make this with fractals in illustrator?

    Hi Teela! I've made a logo for a client using a vectorized watercolor splash as well as vectorized watercolor flower accents and looks great for web use and business cards etc... my question is: if this logo is enlarged for say, a poster.. or a large advertising sign.. will it still look like watercolor like it does at smaller sizes or will it look how it does when zoomed in on illustrator at 150-200% with each of the paths that make up the watercolor look being fairly obvious and not smooth looking like a real watercolor would be?? I worry that watercolor logos I make might not look great large.

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  4 роки тому

      It all depends on how large the poster is and if it's going to/meant to be seen close up. If a poster is hanging on a wall that others look at as they walk past, they would never notice the individual bits within it. If it's going to be looked at close up at a large size, that's when it might be an issue.

    Hi! Which is better, use Illustrator to digitize watercolor artworks? Or use photoshop? thank you!

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  8 років тому

      +Samantha Castillo Hey! It really depends on what you're using the artwork for - if it's for large scale (think billboards, bus wraps, etc.) vectorizing is the way to go. If you're able to scan your artwork in at high res for the size it's needed at, no need to vectorize, just color edit in Photoshop :)

      Esther Teo you would save the file as an Illustrator file (ai), eps, or pdf (which is vector based) :)

  • @Xirpzy
    @Xirpzy 7 років тому

    Another way would be to garbage matte the basic shape and fill it with one colour, put it all the way back and all holes should now have that same colour. only works if you have small holes though but the fastest way i would say.

  • @stellaq3306
    @stellaq3306 4 роки тому

    I'm lazy & impatient so, rather than correct tiny holes, I'd probably make a similar shape of any of the colours & stick it behind the watercolour vectors. Then it would fill in any gaps in one go.

      Go to Edit-> Edit Colors-> Recolor Artwork. and if the images are too big there will be too many color numbers. So you have to select the colors and change the number Auto to one(Or You can choose colors number you think). Then click any colors you want. :)

      +Teela Cunningham (Every-Tuesday) Thanks so much for this tutorial, Teela!!! (Took your class on Skillshare, too!) But what if my white background is made up of thousands of those vector points? Do I have to click through each of them to delete?

    • @EveryTuesday
      @EveryTuesday  8 років тому +2

      +Tia Kim If you don't have any white in your watercolor you can take your magic wand (keyboard shortcut 'y') click on the white, then hit delete. You could also rubber band select to delete portions at a time - or - if you have the time, take it into photoshop and increase your contrast a bit more - this will make your white background more uniformly white before you live trace :) Thanks for taking the Skillshare class! Let me know if there's anything more I can do to help!
