    It's beautiful how supportive and excited the other ballet dancers are for her. I'm sure they all wish they could have a private audition for ABT, but instead of being jealous, they are excited for her.

      Alexa Boyles that is very rare in a dance company. Many studios and companies will but girls against each other ecspecially in competition. This was a very special opportunity and experience for her

      +Genina Dolojan actually, I live in Chicago and have seen many Joffrey performances. I went to New York this summer and watched the ABT perform Cinderella. I was only impressed with the dancer who was playing the role of Cinderella, but she was just a guest from The Royal Ballet (Marianela Nuñez). If ABT is an "A List" company, than so is The Joffrey Ballet. Honestly, I find Joffrey's dancers more breathtaking and exciting to watch. Obviously, any dancer that can make it into any company is talented. I'm just stating my opinion...

    Mayumi was so articulate in the other episodes, here she's looking a bit star-struck by Valeriia like she can't think what to say. Valeriia's a Vaganova grad, has been soloist with ballet companies and gone on world tour before even coming to MCB. There's this aura of experience about her, I wonder if the others feel like schoolkids in comparison.

    BRAVO! Bravissimo!
    Valeria,
    Your most important gift is your presence, no one can teach you that, always, ALWAYS, follow the directions, but always personalize your own steps, that's your gift. The Grigorovich Odile variation suits your technical gifts, and He would be proud. I noticed you do the French fouette, I think the Russian would suit you more. Good luck with ABT, they could use a strong soloist and several ballerinas have retired, so it's good timing.

    Of course she didn't feel like she fitted in at vaganova, her body isn't made like most russian dancers. (Dont get me wrong, she's skinny but not vaganova skinny)

    • @anahavery2123
      @anahavery2123 8 років тому +3

      because pointe shoes hurt,they give you blisters and make your feet sore and stuff

    • @kaciebroadfield262
      @kaciebroadfield262 8 років тому

      Because it relieves the pain from dancing en pointe. I've had to take ice baths from difficult dance pieces, but I've never iced my feet like that

    • @greeneyes12346

      Kacie Broadfield it’s like a ice bath and many do it like this for ease of access. I use to ice my ankles this way.

    1'35'' : I don't want to work in small companies in Russia... Well baby not our fault if you failed at the Mariinsky and the Bolshoi ballet, the most prestigious companies in the world (after Paris of course :)

    • @bwoodsfinest
      @bwoodsfinest 9 років тому +4

      ***** She had to have. Kirov and Bolshoi are two of the most renowned ballet theatres in the world producing the majority of the biggest stars in ballet over the last century+. Graduating from either academy and not getting an invitation into their company is essentially failing in the Russian ballet world. You can go to another company but most know that you got there one of three ways: you didn't get a company offer, you didn't go to a good academy, or there are issues between the dancer and administration.
      eta:However, this in no way means that she isn't an incredible dancer. Plenty of people are promoted an hired at Kirov and Bolshoi that don't deserve to be while others who deserve to be don't make it.

      bwoodsfinest How many students graduate each year from the Vaganova Academy (formerly known as the Imperial Ballet School, the associate school of the Mariinsky Ballet, known a the Kirov Ballet in Soviet Russia), the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, Royal Ballet School, the Paris Opera Ballet School, The National Ballet School of Canada, or School of American Ballet? Hint: very few get accepted, fewer get accepted back each year, and fewer still make it to graduation. And how many spots are open in the parent company each year? Hint: hardly any, and sometimes none at all. Each student who trains and/or graudates from one of these élite schools is an amazing success. Getting into the parent company or any other company, while related, is another issue entirely, but not an indicator of success as a dancer per se.

      "...but not an indicator of success as a dancer per se."
      I never indicated that the failure (be it company politics, availability, or talent)are indicative of the dancer's ability. However, regardless of the dancer's ability, outside of the U.S., it's a failure to not make the parent company. Nonetheless, it doesn't dictate the dancer's future in the dance world.
