Nice timing and focus; I developed the Kata and Kanazawa Sensei learned and introduced them to Shotokan in 1991 ... I created this routine [by fusing together various aspects of southern quanfa [南拳法] I’d studied in Fujian/福建, China/中国. It was a way to demonstrate both my knowledge of the art and passion for the practice; During the many years I resided in Japan, between 1985 and 1995, I demonstrated it at several special gatherings. -- Additionally, Here are two more versions: * This is a 1989 demonstration of my routine at a Shotokan dojo in Tokyo ua-cam.com/video/9_CHW3I9n3Y/v-deo.html * This is a 1991 demonstration of my routine at the Hokama Dojo in Okinawa ua-cam.com/video/YJ8z3TUendg/v-deo.html Admittedly, I never had any idea it would ever become a popular routine amidst modern Karate-ka, let alone a desired competitive exercise, and yet, it has. I learned [from my Tokyo-based friend], Sensei Joe Swift, that my Japanese friend, Sofue Toshihisa [Shito Ryu], had learned this routine, later introduced it into the Shito Ryu community and that Kanazawa Hirokazu Sensei had also learned it. Here is a 2008 demonstration of Kanazawa Sensei performing my routine under the name Nijuhachi Ho ua-cam.com/video/bGSuKNkLIU4/v-deo.html Although it is listed as Shito Ryu/糸東流 Nepai [二十八 型], here is Usami Rika/宇佐美里香 performing my routine beautifully in 2012 ua-cam.com/video/tubdYj6Y9VU/v-deo.html
