If I don't get the role on my first audition, I will keep trying to get a role. I will believe in myself and I won't give up. I will make sure my dream comes true.
My tips : 1. Wear something that slightly resembles the person you’re auditioning for. (It helps) 2. When you can pick your schedule for and audition always choose the one after lunch because the Judges are happy because they’ve eaten and in a good mood (picking the last one is not really effective because all the judges wanna go home and they’re tired) 3. Always prepare a second song of a different music genre. Also you need the second song just in case the song you were supposed to sing will be sung by everyone ( Singing a song that a lot of other people are singing would lead to comparison like “oh this person sang it better” or also the judges being like “not this again”) 4. Learn fast because some auditions will make you memorize a song in just a minute and ask you to sing. 5. Even though you’re really nervous and have no idea what to do act like you do. (Fake it till you make it). 6. Arriving on time is late. Always be early. 7. People getting the main roles are usually leaders. So practice your leadership. 8. Have good conduct because even if you’re the best singer or dancer once you act rude it’s game over. Be like someone everyone would want to work with. 9. People can be mean and rude. Always be prepared to be yelled at. 10. For your photo you can edit it to make yourself look nice but don’t edit it too much. Look like yourself. 11. If you can’t reach that high note but you really wanna do that one song, try changing it a bit to fit your vocal range. 12. Do research on the play and the person that you’re auditioning for.
On #11, DONT add more volume/power if its out of your range. It will come out strained and flat. Use breath control and drop your jaw/lift your soft pallet if you wanna hit that note correctly.
Hey Alyson, it's quite normal to feel that way, but what could you be thinking instead? Challenge yourself to come up with a different script for you. Try it out, see where it takes you.
For me, it's really tough to sing in front of people, because I'm scared they might laugh at what I'm doing or something like that and IDK what to do could you please help me?
+emma zepeda That's totally normal! The best thing you can do is build off of your strengths already...Sing in front of people that you TRUST to be supportive, and sing a song you know that you can do well! You want to anchor the feeling of comfort with baby steps. The possibility that people are not going to embrace your awesomeness is always present...Unfortunately, you can't please everyone. But you can be happy with who you are and what you have to offer! Here's a video that I hope will help a little more...ua-cam.com/video/7VjLv6Yu75E/v-deo.html Thanks so much for watching! I can't wait to hear you sing!
emma zepeda SAME Well not exactly the same... I not scared to sing in front of casting directors or any thing but singing in front of a class is a whole different story
this woman is literally the embodiment of grace and inner beauty just wow ,you're amazinngg first video and im already so impressed by everything you say ,even your body language and face expressions are one of a kind thank you so much for ,it really did help alot thank you ^^
Keep practicing and listen to Madeline videos! Verbal vocal is also good. Don't drink milk for a day or two before auditions, and eat healthy food like chicken, spinach, honey, eggs, etc
Great advice on not pointing out / highlighting your mistakes. I learned that I do this as a way to say "Hey man... I KNOW that was a mistake - I'm at least good enough to know that it was a mistake". I'm trying to get better.
I'm only 12 right now but in the future when I go to high school I want to be in musicals. My dream job is to be an actress. I'm learning many things from you ♡ Thanks 😊
Bro same I’m just 13 now I’ve been doing theatre in school this is my third year I stayed up all last night watching videos like this and how to become one and about headshots and self film and agencies and things
THANK YOU SO MUCH. this is going to help me a lot, and I felt so great to be in my own skin, listening to this amazing words of kindness... THANK YOU A LOT, ILYSM. you gained a fan. ❤
+Alex elisa russo YAY!!! I'm so glad you liked it! For me, that's the biggest part...just feeling comfortable being me, in my own skin and sharing that with others. I look forward to hearing you sing!
Don't waste your precious energy on "good enough" keep your eye on the prize and go for it! Either way, you will learn so much and get better and better every time you put yourself out there! You're a star in the making!
These are such good tips! Valuable both in LA, New York and even in London. There are many differences on the business between the 3 cities, but these tips do apply everywhere. Very very good! Thank you.
I'm 34 and going to do my first audition ever in about 2 hours, thanks for the tips. I've been researching and these tips are very comprehensive, thanks!
I was having a little problem lately because people kept staring at me for no apparent reason... With this video I just found out why xD By the way, truth has been spoken! I agree on everything. :3
I am hopefully auditioning for Eponine in my school's production of Les Miserables (they haven't announced it yet but they're kinda hinting at it. I'm getting my hopes up lol) but since I'm a lowerclassman I'm looking for ways to stand out in an audition and some of these tips help! Thank you!
Madeleine, you're like a kindergarten teacher for adults, the teacher that reaches our inner child and really teaches us. I feel like you don't have a judgemental bone in your body. Thank you!
I like #3. In my first audition at my local civic I did not know anyone but I am open to people and hooked them with being talkative. Now I know most of the directors and choreographers they use along with the music director. Going into the audition now is like seeing some old friends. Granted, old friends that are judging me
(Oooh watching this video exactly 2 years after it came out 😂) I have an audition on Monday for The Artful Dodger in a play of Oliver! and I'm nervous because I haven't ever really sung in front of other people and I have to sing a snatch of 'Consider Yourself and perform the scene where Dodger and Oliver first meet. The main problem is everybody thinks I have a disadvantage because I am a female and there will be lots of other people auditioning too. Also, the audition is a 7:30 PM so, I get tired quickly... This video really helps! Thank You!
Thank you so much for giving a breakthrough that I have been waiting for. You said to be comfortable with attention. I have never thought about all of this in that context before because I have been trying to figure out what is keeping me from learning and pursuing the career of singing and acting. I just realize I am not comfortable with attention with people looking at me or thinking of the possible thoughts of my performance, when stepping back on stage in years with little experience. So thank so much for your advice and now I can finally have goal to get comfortable with attention that will help me finally to start living my destiny with no fear or insecurities.
Make sure you choose a song that is good for that character. For example if you’re auditioning for Alice don’t sing a belting song. If you can’t figure out what song to do, you can look up songs for that role on the internet. Also if you have the opportunity to read the script, make sure you memorize the long paragraphs because casting directors are more likely to have you read long paragraphs for your first audition.
i'm looking to audition, sometime, don't know when, but the later the better for practice's sake, for the role of the Phantom in Phantom of the Opera.... on Broadway... so this was helpful in sort of getting a crash course in audition basics. I am not a pro actor yet, I'm not even really that much of an amateur. I've done some things but never on stage so i'll probably be watching this over and over so I can really get what you're saying engrained in my head. thank you for this vid
I’ve just entered high school and it’s very huge so getting into performances is harder because basically the casts are made up of older kids so I’m going to use this advice when I audition for the spring play

On Monday I’m auditioning for vi in footloose I’m so nervous! I think I can do it though. It’s Saturday 9/27/19. I will update you guys if I got it or not Update: so I auditioned today and I think i did rly rly good, the directors all smiled at me and I hit all my notes. I had been struggling with some issues that were stopping me from giving my best on stage or in front of people who I thought could be critical of my singing.. after watching your videos and keeping your words in mind, I have been able to relax and express my feelings through my music. Slowly but, surely your sincere efforts are helping thousands like me. Love from India. Keep them coming!
thank you..soo much..harvey..it will help me a lot..in my audition....i am Indian..i will perform Hollywood songs..i was soo nervous..but after watching this..i started believing myself thank you aoo much..god bless you.😇😇
Here's a tip, when someone looks at you in the street, most people get tense. Instead, smile. Smiling in that situation means you are aware of them looking, but you are at ease. This helps with tip #5 and a good practice to begin with. Posture is key too.
Alyssa Mae don’t sing with your throat, sing with your diaphragm, there’s UA-cam videos to help with this. Warm up properly, seriously take ages on warming up! It’s really important! Drink lots of lukewarm water, cold water closes your throat up and inhale LOADS of steam! At the end of the day, if none of that works, the song might just not be right for you. It might be out of your range or your voice just might not be strong enough yet. If that’s true though, that doesn’t mean you’ll never be able to sing it, your voice grows, changes and matures throughout your life to you might be able to go back to it one day.
My biggest mistake is that i had finished the required bars, but they asked me to sing more, and i said it was high for me. I sang the bars fine, and it was my own lack of confidence that held me back.
It's weird hearing her say role everytime when I'm trying to become a kpop trainee. This is more than just a role. This is literally me changing my life, but I'll try not to have expectations.
It makes sense that when you're changing your life you've got a lot invested in an outcome. What Madeleine says about making confidence and authenticity part of who you are in your every day life can have some pretty big outcomes too. The role becomes you.
Omg we have the same name except different spellings. So cool! I’m Madalyn, and the other Maddie’s that rule the school with me are Madeline, Madeline, and Madelion. Pronounced the same!
People, Don’t get numb if you loose your first audition . Because guess what? My first audition I lost ... but guess what ? A year later I tired out again for the best singing group in Rogers , and I made it ! Don’t give up. You can do whatever you do , only if you keep believing .
I have an audition for Wednesday in the Adams family musical, how should I enhance my performance with acting. Also their r high parts I am not comfortable with. What should I do?
hi miss I don't now if you will get back to me in time or at all but I have a audition on Saturday june 15 and I would really like some more tips on what would make the judges pick me out of a very long line up.please and thank you.
I really want to audition for the part of Snow White in the new Disney live action production, but I've never auditioned for anything, and I have no agent. I just want to know if I have a chance. I have the voice and the wide eyed innocent look.
Wow those were really great advices! I felt so good knowing that I'm gonna audition in a few hours and I am bringing with me the words of wisdom you just shared. Thank you so much for this video! It's such a blessing. YOU ARE A BLESSING! 🙏
Tomorrow I’m auditioning for a school play and it only has 8 spots and 20 people are auditioning I have a feeling I won’t make it but I want to be prepared.
If I don't get the role on my first audition, I will keep trying to get a role. I will believe in myself and I won't give up. I will make sure my dream comes true.
i've tried out and it's on this account but like it looks awful
With theater, comes endless rejection.
you go girl
Makayla Thomas 🔥🔥💪💪
Best of luck🍀

thank youuuuu i want to join theater so i will definitely take these into account!
Thank you i have an audition coming up 👍
On #11, DONT add more volume/power if its out of your range. It will come out strained and flat. Use breath control and drop your jaw/lift your soft pallet if you wanna hit that note correctly.
This is good advice not just for auditions but to apply to life in general! With my first audition EVER coming up, it was really helpful. Thanks !
+evan lewis YAY!!! You're going to do great! Break a leg!
My first audition is coming up in three days! Btw, how did the audition go??

Micaela Pastore I absolutely agree
*woman
she reminds me of Winona Ryder
Omg I just realize that
Omg yeah she does
she reminds me of voiceoverpete a little at the beginning first minute with the hand gestures and whatnot
YESS! 1. love ur profile photo and name. 2. ST!!!!!
Your right!
her: have no expectations
me: i expect to not get the role
Hey Alyson, it's quite normal to feel that way, but what could you be thinking instead? Challenge yourself to come up with a different script for you. Try it out, see where it takes you.
Psychologically, if you tell yourself you're not gonna get a role, it decreases your chance of actually getting it.

Well not exactly the same...
I not scared to sing in front of casting directors or any thing but singing in front of a class is a whole different story
My top tip for you is to put yourself into the people listenings shoes. Would you laugh 8f some9ne screwed up? Probably not. Just keep that in mind!
emma zepeda same here but i couldn’t sing in front of people i know, i feel better singing in front of strangers
Keep singing. The more you do it the less your brain kicks into “fight or flight” and the more natural the audition process becomes. 👍
I just literally passed an audition by watching this video... ♥️ Thank you!!!
Diana Leoport what did you audition for????
The thing I struggle with is confidence, and I'm not even considering an audition. I enjoyed the video though! Thank you.

I did this and guess how much lines I got (1) I’ll tell you
“Imagine how you’d feel If you had cooked a lovely meal”
Nowhere to go but up!
You need to be grateful that you even got a role. You got picked out of a handful of other talent. It doesn't matter how many lines you get.
You made me feel so good about my first audition
Even if I did great in the audition the FAVORITES will always get the main parts
Neha Pandya The absolute favorite of my teacher is auditioning for my role and I'm sooo nervous
They were new once too and probably felt the way you do
babe_raven_ wood dude I relate. I’m auditioning in les mis and there’s a perfect role for me but the juniors/seniors have higher chances.
babe_raven_ wood Make yourself a favourite.
I feel your pain

Thank you so much! This is helping me so much in life and my audition!
Thx soo much it helped me become a backround dancer
I have an audition today. Hope this can help. I'll be back here in the comments if I pass this audition. Thank you!

Oh my goodness good luck!!!! We're rooting for you!
I would really recommend going to a small theatre company instead of going to broadway, the casting director would like some experience beforehand
matt mallecoccio no entiendo que tu piensas
in simple words she meant to say that be a good human
The second advice reminds me of the time I messed up and said sorry halfway through my lines
I don't mean to be rude to millions of kids in school, but I think this should be mandatory to watch for everybody.
Thank you Shinchan!!
I’ve just entered high school and it’s very huge so getting into performances is harder because basically the casts are made up of older kids so I’m going to use this advice when I audition for the spring play
auditioning on sunday for x factor i am so scared
I Am Auditioning Today for a performing Arts high school!!, WISH ME LUCK!🤗

It's weird hearing her say role everytime when I'm trying to become a kpop trainee. This is more than just a role. This is literally me changing my life, but I'll try not to have expectations.
Same here!!! Do you plan on auditioning in any company yet?😁
It makes sense that when you're changing your life you've got a lot invested in an outcome. What Madeleine says about making confidence and authenticity part of who you are in your every day life can have some pretty big outcomes too. The role becomes you.
Goodluck💜
Thank you !! ❤️
