You know what makes these videos from 1991 the best? There was still a lot of veterans that were still alive to give first hand accounts of what they experienced.
I was a Royal Navy rating on board the Iowa in 1984/85 in the Baltic Sea and was on-board during firing exercise and witnessed the power of a full broadside. It was the only time in my career when the Yanks impressed me ! I have the photos to prove it as I believe I am one of 5he last Royal Navy Saliors to do this !!
Informative documentary coverage video about warships... theirs progress steps during centuries... video clearly explained the USA 🇺🇸 battle ships 🚢 constant firepowers with highly maneuverability on oceans surfaces ... allot, thanks, (Mike Guardia) channel for sharing this remarkable video
USS Texas is in dry dock for a much needed refit. She is almost ready for painting. This ship holds the record for staying at Battle Stations for 50 days.
To my older father shipmate from the USS Nevãda. Shipmate. The quick thinking of her skipper to counterflood the starboard side torpedo blisters or, her hull, was the reason why she didn't capsize like her sister, the USS Oklahoma.
@@tvgerbil1984 You're absolutely right. But the nostalgia is real. The battleship and its big gun badassery compelled me to offer the thought. But ya, I agree. They are obsolete.
The biggest problem the US Navy had was congress not funding it. For so much of the 19th century that was endemic. Even into the 20th century all too often the budget was much too small
Mr. Scott, sir. Point of fact: all German warships bear the male pronoun "he" because of the name of Germany 🇩🇪: "The Fatherland." Just to let you know, sir.

refreshing to hear the voice of George C, Scott narrating !!!
I miss these shows. So glad you uploaded em
I absolutely loved George C Scott, its 2023 and i still love George C Scott, a very unique individual....
Timely production; captured the last hurrah of The Big Guns.
My senior year we watched desert storm non-stop, I joined the navy shortly after, and was stationed with a few guys of BB-63, I'm jealous

Excellent. What a memory that must be, especially as how you were one of the last RN sailor to do this.
Please send me some photos of this awesome Iowa
The only time the Yanks impressed you! If it wasn't for the Yanks you would have been annihilated during World War 2!
I find it interesting that it took the reactivation of a war ship pushing 50 years old to actually impress you of the us navy
@@footed16same. I mean has he seen one of America’s carriers next to one of englands? It’s almost comical
The quote from General Leonard Jurreau, ashore, to General Omar Bradley, afloat, sums it all up:
"THANK GOD FOR THE UNITED STATES NAVY!"
Thank you and thumbs up for this free episode.
Thank you mike.
Thank you Mike!
I love that Paul Beaver is still doing these vdocs even in now in the 2020s
The sound of those guns wow
Indeed!!

And, the 11th. Commandment reads: "And, thou shalt NOT mess with the USS Texas!"
Thank your for the excellent videos

George C. Scott is a great narrator.
Excellent upload again Sir 👍
Another little-known historical fact: the Royal Navy did NOT sink the DKM Bismarck. His crew scuttled him!
praise the Lord and pass the ammunition
A nuclear propelled battleship with solid state laser point defense?
DON'T TANGLE WITH THAT KIND OF THE MAJOR BOOMS-BOOMS
It only takes a modern wake homing torpedo to disable it. The age of battleships has come and gone.

OK if that was not GC Scott, then who is he!!!
It's George C. Scott. Believe me.

Possibly the single most overrated weapons platform the world has ever seen
Overrated? When they were relevant, they were good at doing their jobs.

What do you think the job of a battleship even is? Because it isn’t to act as glorified monitors or as CLAAs.
You would not be wrong.
Considering the reign of the modern battleship was about 60 years and there was exactly ONE fleet engagement, Jutland you would be correct.
