I remember REALLY liking the Viera race as a kid. Now, as an adult, I know why 😂
Ah...a fellow man of culture...
A comment on the permadeath present in this game and its predecessor, FFT. FFT handles permadeath the best out of any TRPG I've played, with 2 ways to save your units after they go down, both of which add interesting new goals to your current battle. You're incentivized to either spend a ton of mana with your healer to revive them, or finish the battle quickly in under 3 turns to save them! It keeps the urgency and consequences of permanent loss while offering a buffer for mistakes and potential for rescue given the effort and strategy are used. Fire Emblem tends to feel too punishing imo, makes it easy to want to just reset your save if you lose like 5 units in a chapter due to unlucky crits
I recently discovered this game and searched for a more in-depth video about it. Thanks, this one's great! I'm playing and enjoying the game now myself :).
So much joy and the art is gorgeous. I had to play the game twice just for the story.
Don't forget the music
@@thelegacyofgaming2928 Agreed!
One thing I liked about this game more than A2 was the sprite animations. A2 went for 3D effects, which are cool, but there's something very nice about the sprite animations in this game, especially from the Elementalist.
Preferences aside, I’ve found the attack animations in A2 to be stellar. Some standouts I’ve noticed so far are Dragoon’s Dragonheart, Elementalist’s Fire Whip and Black Mage’s Blizzards.
A2 in general still holds up graphically because the spritework perfectly captures the game’s stylistic direction. At the very least, the game is far ahead of much more prominent titles on the DS that are comparatively “aesthetically challenged” to put it politely.
I remember playing it when i was a kid, and I had a hyper powerful character that could 1v6 in the jagds. It was something like:
Feather boots, Angellic Ring, Mirror Mail, 2x Blood Swords, Strikeback, as a Paladin Class with ninja sub class.
I replayed the game, to try to recapture this feeling, and man.... rose-tinted glasses are really something. Maybe because I was young, I felt more powerful than i do now, with loads of tactics experience under my belt now. Interesting feeling, and great video.
Nostalgic...
More people need to see this! Great retrospective!
I lost Montblanc, my first little buddy and teacher that way, in the lawless Jagds
Great stuff! Probably my favorite GBA games besides the battle network games.
@@wyldborg Will you be doing a battle network retrospective in the future?
@@wyldborg awesome man I’ll be looking forward to it.
One of those games I regret selling.
Great vid. Would like a tactics ogre gba vid sometime
