So good to see a successful conservation story like this. I enjoyed this video just as much as I did watching the marine wildlife of the far away exotic locations that Blue World has previously filmed. .
WOW! Jonathan Bird is just the best!!!!! Even though this is just a fiver in Maine, it is one of my favorite episodes. I would enjoy more videos like this! Amazing!!!
Today I was at Vallarta and I went snorkeling and the water was crystal clear! I saw lots of tropical fish, including a stingray I named Steve, and a jellyfish I named, Reyes! It was beautiful and it reminded me of Blue World!
Those Guys are genius They have a device to count fish guys what the hell. Man u learn so much from this channel Thanks to the Guys and Gals that help those fish spawn
This was equally an exciting video just as much as all the others you did in the oceans! Healthy and looked after rivers and streams are a magnificent aquatic world nonetheless. If I lived in or near such a place as Pembroke, Maine, I would visit that river (or any other) every single weekend. Thanks for this fantastic video, Jonathan and team.
Jonathan this time you out did yourself, this is quite possibly the most amazing episode you have done!!! Don't get me wrong your other episodes are quite amazing but this one considering all the preparations you had to do to make this possible. Keep up the amazing work and good luck on your journey to 1 million!!!! And by the way I have been subscribed to you since 70,000k subscribers!!
Thanks for watching and for the nice comments. I'm glad to see that people appreciate something simple in a river and not just huge expeditions to faraway places. Nature is fantastic!
What another beautiful story my friend Jonathan even though I don’t know who you are I will say this I do enjoy every video that you do. Also I like the fact that you’re doing this from New England and I just learned something new also. Keep doing what you’re doing you’re doing an awesome job! I do like what you’re saying in this video you learn something new every day and that is so true. I love your attitude don’t stop keep calling my friend please.
@@BlueWorldTV anytime my friend. I’m one that’s not politically correct so I speak my mind. I love every video of jonathan blue world!all those little aspect of the show, all reccurent details, i love them all continue educatin and fascinating people!
can't wait for the time your videos are up, I love the water and the lively world within it, especially deepsea fish creepy and alien like, I just love them
You should come to actual England, there are basking sharks down in Cornwall and our coast is said to rival the tropics. Then you should go to Scotland, they have Fin whales(the second largest on Earth).
BlueWorldTV Just told my 6 year old son that his two *_favorite_* nature UA-camrs might be doing a crossover... He's still jumping up and down as I'm typing this. Better make something happen, Jonathan, or you'll have a very disappointed fan!
Hey Jonathan, Love your vids! I admire your double-hose reg and I am contemplating getting myself one. I do have one concern though, how do you clear the loop if there is no purge button? I would imagine there would be too much water to clear with one lung full. on rebreaters you have to flip upside down and release diluent gas until all the water is gone but on open circuit you can't do that. So how do you clear that sort of reg?
Easy. So the inhale and exhale hoses both have one-way "mushroom" (flapper) valves at the mouthpiece. So if you take the mouthpiece out of your mouth, the inhalation hose cannot fill with water. Water can get into the exhalation hose, but this is not a problem. When you put the mouthpiece back in your mouth, you only have to blow enough air volume to move a few tablespoons of water out of the mouthpiece itself into the exhalation hose. Then you can inhale. Now it may take a few short/quick breaths to move all the water out of the exhalation hose, but this does not impact your ability to inhale and breathe. I try to not take the mouthpiece out because once you get water in the exhalation hose, you can't get ALL of it out because of the corrugations in the hose. As a result it "gurgles" for the rest of the dive, which is annoying (though not dangerous). But at the end of the dive when you are out of the water, you can shake the hoses and get the rest out. Honestly, it's a very easy regulator, breathes great and it is SO awesome to have the bubbles back behind your head.
Thank you so much for your detailed reply, I feel much better about purchasing one now. I do have another question though, if you tip the reg upside-down will it free-flow like a conventional reg?
Hey Jonathan. Have you considered trying an diving expedition at Truk Lagoon with all the ship wrecks, tanks, airplanes down there? I love all of your videos though! Starting on my diving certificate in the end of next month. can't wait!
whenever i open your videos...before even watching it...i first smash that like button only after which i proceed to the video...happy to be a subscriber...you deserve at least a million subscribers...keep up your great work
Hey Jonathan!! I'm a big fan of your work. I have a few questions- What five certifications do you have, like rescue or master, and what other dive specialties do you have? thanks
Not really that many. I have Open Water, Advanced Open water, Nitrox, full cave, oxygen provider and I am certified on a couple different rebreathers. No rescue or anything towards instructor.
Blue World started on UA-cam and then transitioned to television (PBS) for a few years. We have found that our core demographic watches more UA-cam than television, so we have switch primarily back to being a UA-cam show, however every couple years we "package" up the programs and license them to a TV network. Last year it was AWE network which is still showing it. This year it will be featured on 4K Universe which is a 4K network. If you are interested in seeing Blue World in UltraHD (4K) this will be the place to see it!
Hey Jonathan. Lovely video again. I sent a picture to you on Instagram about a juvenile tiger shark that's laying on the bottom and still breathing!!! By the way I'm going to Malta and the redsea next week
That technology is amazing but there could be some human and technological errors. He just turns it off directly but what about the fish that goes through as soon as the machine restarts?
There is no question that a few fish will get through without being counted. The EXACT number isn't really important as long as they have a basic idea so they know if the trend is going up or down from year to year.
I was hoping somebody else was wondering the same thing as me, but seems not. Why are these fish called Alewives??? Do they love ale that much??? Or is it for another reason??? Sharky says they're bull sharky fish, I think they're a lot like salmon... More poignantly, checking the health of our rivers is always good, as healthy rivers can help seas feel better.
OK, it's complicated. But the most common theory is that the name comes from an old French term for Shad (a similar looking fish) that they called "Allowes". Around the same time, an Alewife was a term for a woman who ran an alehouse. Because the French word kinda looked like the english Alewife, they started calling the fish Alewives, probably just as a tongue-in-cheek expression, but it stuck. And so today, we call the fish female barkeepers!
