here are some other tips i've noticed: - stay on your toes - everything follows your shoulders and where your head is looking - try to pop right after loading up to do the trick
I'm 14. I just started skating. I kinda suck. I went to the skate park today and i was gonna practice, but they were having a competition so I was kinda nervous. They were super nice and supportive. There was probably 20 people there. They were all older than me. Thay told me to just keep practicing. I think I'm just going to get a feel for my board first though. I'm still trying to balance better. Wish me luck. Give me tips please. Thank you. Edit: I can Ollie after trying for like 3 hours of trying. Lol. I'm so proud of myself guys.
Reading this gives me so much more confidence! I just began practicing my Ollie, after about 30 minutes of practicing I gave out and went inside, tomorrow I'll practice more, I almost gave up completely, this actually gave me some hope, good luck on your journey too bro!
Good job on practiseing and checking the skate park!! You will get better at it for sure! Keep practiseing the basics, how to push, ollie, turn, zick-jack and then go back to the park! When you are beginner do little everyday (not too much only little.) Andwhen you are more comfidentandco.fortable on your board you can keep skateing the whole day
I started skateboarding when I was about 12. Now I'm 17 and I'm not where I want to be because of one thung, thus my best piece of advice: Consistency. I know as teenagers we don't always get time, but really try to skate as often as you can. It help tons
Oh that’s awesome dude! Don’t make tricks into a bigger deal than they have to be, I promise you once you get your first handful of tricks down you’re ahead of most everybody around lol. I feel the most important things rn are #1 learning the physics of cruising and carving, and #2 learning to fall properly and confidently. Being the best at surviving the butt whooping that is skating will save you more trouble than anything else, you can make more mistakes than other beginners, and therefore make more improvements!
Saying things like 1,2,3 Ollie and then doing it regardless of where you are or what the ground looks like helped me build so much confidence. I would recommend it for sure
For me personally I like to just take a deep breath then make an immediate exclaim in my head of the trick I want to do and just go for it right after the breath
I'm in my early fifties learning to skate. Still working on getting ollies over tiny objects (like a stick) down. It takes me longer than I think it would take younger people, but I love it. I am lucky in that I have some younger skater friends that are super encouraging to skate with. Love your channel and your calm presentation style. You have a great demeanor and just learning from your attitude and outlook helps. Keep it up!
No dude, it took me a freaking year and a half to Ollie😂, and I still struggle to get over curves, you're on the right track just ride every day, and test it like an exercise
@@K_spawnall about popping that tail & lifting that front foot, I learned faster by putting my back foot on the back corner instead of in the middle & gives more pop
i just learned to ollie i think a big tip for me is really bending down a lot and slamming the tail then trying to jump and slide as high as i can to get as high as i can but i am still very new to it and cant go over a stick yet either but imgetting there
I'm 23 years old and live in India where skateboarding is definitely not mainstream. I watched one too many of your shorts and started skateboarding a few months back. It's so much fun! My goal is to land a kickflip by the end of next year ^_^
Not sure why I'm commenting but here I am. Recently 14, female, and a complete beginner. I have no business in skating. I'm horrible, I'm scared to fail or fall, I never commit and I'm probably the slowest learner you'll ever meet. Nontheless skateboarding just made it to me. It's facinating and so much fun. I can't even go in a straight line too well even after a week of learning but I'm not planning on giving up. I'm embarrassed to even pick up the board but for some reason something keeps me coming back to it. I want to learn and I want to become better like you.
Tbh like the other guy said just keep going i feel like the biggest obstacle in the learning of skateboarding is fear its the fear of hurting yourself or breaking something that stops you from learning new stuff and the commitement will come the better you get at skateboarding, when you’re able to do drop ins and tricks it gets rlly rlly fun and even addicting i myself have been skating since i was like 6 years old my father got me my first skateboard for my birthday and since then i have been skating not rlly much though he recently passed away and i just try to get elly good at skating for him as he always liked watching me get better and better. Great tips! I grew up in Ohio skating solo after my friends and brother quit. I’ll be 40 in less than a year and for back into skating over the summer. Even my brother got back into it. We live in San Diego now so there are so many parks and spots to skate! We are both progressing more than we did as teenagers, it is wild!

I like that you mentioned diversifying your skateboarding! Learning how to do Boneless and step-off tricks was one of the best things for helping me feel like I actually knew what I was doing.

For me the opposite works well: not focusing on something. I focused on doing an Ollie for some time. I didnt progressed and only got frustrated. So now I, as a beginner, try to improve the fundamentals: four ways to propel a board: pushing, tic tacs, surfing and pumping. And everything on both sides. Plus the two turns: frontside and backside on both sides in a pipe: also fakie and regular. Rolling different quarterpipes/transitions with different hights and steepness. And in addition improving tricks like: shove it, ollie, casper stall, walk the dog. Each only 20 attempts per session. Not focusing on the tricks, but on the fundamentals. And not on a single trick, but try to improve all. The stuff I learn on one thing that helps me doing the other stuff easier is immense.
Im 34 just started again. Im 6'2" 230 amd first couple days i felt like a 1000 pound ststue on the board. Landed first stationary ollie and already slammed lol my groin hurts like hell

I used to be so good the past 4 years of skating when starting out. But one day all of the sudden it was like my first time stepping on a skateboard. I became super clumsy for no good reason, and couldn't skate as well in the snap of a finger. Even after being so consistent with it. I tried having a break thinking I was burnt out and that just made it worse. It's like a permanent feeling of feeling rusty when I was way better before. It really sucks to having something that you used to enjoy all of the sudden feel like you've hit a wall and went backwards.
Yeah I cant even do a trick while riding am goofy footed so I can only do tricks with my left leg and when I do it with my right leg its like am learning how to walk for the first time I cant even get it to flick off or up the board

Hey Mr Wavy. My 11yr old boy is a 5 months experiece begginer. He learned in a 8.25 chocolate + royal 149 trucks + ricta 56mm wheels. I just upgraded with a 8.0 Quasi + Indy Silver 11 139s and + Spitfire 54mm formula 4s. Is it a good setup ? I now seinf some people saying thise trucks are heavy, too high and not optimal for tricks. Should I change the setup ?
I apologize in advance, my english might not be the best. Well im not Mr.wavy, but i do believe most of those come down to personal preference, like i dont know how tall is your boy or how big is his foot and stuff but since you bought him a much smaller board he will now be able to tell what he likes (smaller or bigger boards), same goes for trucks and wheels he will try some different brands and chose what he likes best, make sure the trucks axle matches the board size tho (i personaly belive independent and ace trucks are the best). Good luck.

Good luck.
Mr.Wazy puts his preferences in the description i believe.
