This video was amazing because when it comes to being jailbreaking or emulating I can admit I’m wayyy out of my league but videos like this is what helped me jailbreak my psp vita and install windows on my MacBook so thank you very much on this well informed video
I found PCSX2 on Windows was a bit tedious to get the appropriate settings on a per-game basis. It made it difficult to play random titles because it was setup for a specific game. But perhaps some of that had to do with my cMP 5,1 and GTX 680. Funny, I was just about to fire up my PS2 and play some Ratchet & Clank.
I think this is part of the Mac builds, there's now automatic hardware fixes for games which makes things more seamless as I do remember having to apply per-game fixes. It seemed like for years PCSX2 kinda idled but now recently it's improved a lot. github.com/PCSX2/pcsx2/pull/5593 Previously, NBA Street Vol 2 played at like half speed. Now it works. Also the texture replacement is pretty cool although I think that its new so there aren't many games where people have built high-rez texture packs. I tested it out in SSX3 and upscaled a few assets. It really easy to do.

Try this one: "It appears the latest nightly build that is compatible with macOS 10.15 is v1.7.5107", -JenovaGiygas, as for High sierra, try older versions. GL.
Try: Previous Nightly Releases - (106) -> (as they allow for lower versions). This one v1.7.5107 work for Catalina on 2012 iMac, thanks to JenovaGiygas (on the forum for finding it)
excellent video, what I wanted to ask you is where can I get the bios
They're copyrighted. I'm sure you're a clever guy who can search google.com.
I followed everything but it won't load my games. I tried to manually select the iso to play it but the red screen comes up and I can't get past this :(. Any advice?
Running aethersx2 PS2 emulator on MacBook Pro and using xbox series x bluetooth controller but the triggers are basically on/off switches in gran turismo 3 for throttle/brake....I played with it for no lie HOURS trying to get it to work better and I did for approx 10hrs of play time by adjusting the in-game controls to have the right thumb stick as throttle/brake and telling aethersx2 that the sticks were the triggers. tried saving that controller profile but idk what happened.... Went to try and do the same thing for gran turismo 4 but it was impossible.
Now I turn back to play gt3 and something is different, the triggers work independently but not at the same time, soon as one is pressed at all it cancels the other ones input. example: left foot braking gently to spool turbo before exiting a corner or holding one trigger to aim and other one to shoot...
I have now completely reset every single thing multiple times, deleted every single profile and pissed with this non stop for 2.5hrs JUST trying to get it so both inputs can be done at same time again.. soo exhausted and defeated!!
PLEASE HELP!!!!!!!!!!
Quick read... playing GT3 on xbox controller, h
Unfortunately I don’t have any Xbox hardware let alone Xbox series X. You could try trashing the prefs. I’d try Reddit r/macgaming or r/aethersx2.
Those controllers aren't pressure sensitive.
Idk why I can't get the games on it (SH2 and SH3). I already have the ISO files and put them in the disk image mounter, but nothing happens :( It doesn't allow me to add them.
I tried to use a ps4 controller but it’s not conneting to my MacBook Air 2020, what can I do? Maybe buying a ps5 controller?
Damn man. Thanks for the info
Is anyone else having problems with getting PCSX2 to show up on the browser. I’ve used safari and chrome and it doesn’t display anything. I’m on a 2011 21.5” iMac.
Bother!!! Thank you so sooo much! i been doing everything with the pcsx2 and i hate it haha! because i was doing everything on an apple silicon M1 Chip system! haha Thank You so much bro for this great help! thank you thank you so so much!
Yo bro I ordered a m1 MacBook and I was wondering what frames you get on aetherx2??

When I load up a game it just stays on a black screen then shuts off, I need help
When I try and open the application (PCSX2) after I've decompressed it, nothing pops up as you say in the video. Instead, it just keeps hopping on the dock bar and nothing else happens. Do you know what might be the issue here? I use a MacBook Pro (intel)
Ive had this issue for many of my applications hopping in the dock. Whenever this happens, I right click on application and press "show package contents" then press on the "contents" folder and then press on the "MacOS" folder. It will show this terminal logo. If you press that, it will run a terminal window and start up the emulator without it bouncing in the dock. Hope it works!
Can you use a apple USB Super Drive to play pS2 games once you download the PCSX2?
thanks for the good tutorial
So I downloaded the Ps2 Bios and it doesn’t work, what have I done wrong here?

How do I improve game lag on my MacBook M1 when using this app to play PS2 games?
Lag also appears to intensify if I connect my MacBook to my 4K TV via HDMI
For some reason when I set "Metal" on God of war the game stop giving image, I can still hear the game and fight... Any idea why?
MacBook air 2017.
It works with vulkan tho
ibe been using a ps2 controller via usb for my mac but suddenly it wont work anymore. do you have any tips
I have everything set up the way you do here, but when I go to launch a game it says “failed to create host display device context”. Everything Ive found online hasn’t worked, I changed the renderer and adapters and it didn’t fix it, do you have any idea what it could be? I’m on a 2015 Intel MacBook Pro
I am unable to navigate in bios start among the options to format the memory card at 9:42
i seem to always see a transparent big white square does anyone have any ideas?
how do you get the games to then add them ?
which one do i download I have 2015 MacBook pro 13'
would you happen to know how to recover games that were "excluded from list" ? accidentally excluded Tekken 5 when i meant to click change cover.
What if the BIOS doesn't appear?
Currently trying to play Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix (JAP) version ( I currently own without PS2 )
I keep getting the " PCSX2 Requires a PS2 BIOS in order to run "
When I did move the file in the open data directory under BIOS
Please help me :(
Hey I have a 2015 Mac Intel Iris and basically anytime I do anything game related I crash. I was able to get the correct bios in, but when entering my game directory I crash, deleting the same I crash, loading a game manually I crash, basically anything beyond the BIOS I crash. Not understanding whats wrong here...
I’d first try a different nightly build. Not sure how those Intel gpus perform or if there’s any glitches with them. If it persists I’d search to see if anyone else is experiencing that particular issue. Without that particular machine, it’s tough for me to diagnose.
Is there away to use this application/tutorial for RetroArch on a AppleTV 4K 128GB
I may do a video at some point for the Apple TV, I just need to buy one
Ei, I have an Intel with 12.5 and the game keeps showing the loading screen for a second, and then black (and don't run the game)
I did everything in your vide, what I'm missing? Thanks for the help ^^
I have the 16inch intel mbp with 32 g ram. You think I can run this without blowing it up?
Do you know how to enable the internet connection to play playstation 2 games online the ones that qualify and say broadband only? i saw a guy that was giving a tutorial for the windows version but i am running the apple m1 version so i know they are very uncompatible. If you know can you please let me know if you have a video about that?
There is ps2 games that are online playable like KILLZONE, RESIDENT EVIL OUTBREAK, AUTO MODELLISTA, AND MUCH MORE!
So if you have any tutorials on how to enable it will you please upload the video? thanks i will put my notifications active in order to see if you upload any new content!
Thank you brother!
any advice on using a mouse with pcsx2 on mac? Is it possible?
Probably not on a majority of titles, a very slim library of games did support a usb mouse. Other than that, I think the LilyPad drivers for PCSX2 support Analog stick emulation which isn't the same as full blown mouse support.
como puedo saber si mi mac es compatible con los emuladores ?
Great video. The issue i'm running into is that my macbook pro (intel, macos monterey) doesn't provide the option for auto mapping. It recognizes my ps4 controller dualshock, but the only auto mapping options I have are keyboard and mouse. Controller was connected via USB and connected before launching PCSX2. Help!
Just manually map it
can you make a guide to help all my games run at 60 FPS? some run at 30 some run at 60. if I uncap fps it runs at 120 and feels weird. how can I keep 60 fps at every game?
hey guys, i just recently got my mac (its not new) and idk how to check my mac type. how do i get the window äbout this mac"to know what emulator works in my computer? thanks in advance
I bought an adapter to be able to use my Dualshock 2 controller, macos says it detects it as a Twin USB Joystock but AetherSX2 and PCSX2 doesn't detect it at all, is there some kind of driver I need? there is 0 information online about Dualshock 2 on mac
I think macOS 10.15 and above have PS2 drivers natively included, what version are you on?
@@dmug i'm on macos 12.6 on m1 max, only firefox detects the controller but the buttons are mapped incorrectly, i really hope there is something I can do
@@spzi_ you can manually map the controller, it’s a process of clicking the button field and pressing the button on your controller
@@dmug The problem is that it's not detected in PCSX2 and AetherSX2, it doesnt show up on the list so pressing any button doesn't do anything in the remapping menu, I tried routing it through Steam but it does not detect it as a generic gamepad either
@@spzi_ wait, I just noticed you’d aid dual shock 2 as in ps2, those will not connect over usb. I can’t recall if there’s an easy way to use them. I specifically left off the ps2 controllers because of that.
I'm getting this notification “AetherSX2” can’t be opened because Apple cannot check it for malicious software.. How do I bypass this?
As mentioned in the video, right click and then click open. On a touch pad it should be the two finger click or done by control clicking.
@@dmug Thanks for the reply! watching the whole video now ;)
Does anyone know how to get to the configuration tab on this version ? I cant find it anywhere ..... im trying to reduce the lag on these games and I need that tab to change settings
How do I actually get the games on my Mac. Im following everything else but I am lost there
Create ISOs from game disks or sail the high seas.
GREAT Video thank you kind sir
Much appreciated, working on a GameCube/Wii followup :)
I have 1 ps5 controller connected, but I cannot seem to connect the second ps4 controller.I’m trying to play a 2 player game.these are Bluetooth ran by the way, please help.
Controller 2 doesn't work at all, even with a singular controller? Unfortunately I only have one PS5 controller so I can't test it. You might try the PCSX2 subreddit or MacGaming subreddit or an emulation discord.
@@dmugHello, I will order a ps5 controller on Amazon, to play on pcsx2 on the Mac m2. Works? And if it does... Does it work with Bluetooth? Thank you
Can you use this emulator without a game disc?
Hi, where can i download ps2 games files for to play on the mac?
Great video! I have encountered some issue with opening the game though. when I click on the game in the emulator the whole application stops responding, it just stands and buffer. Any ideas?
Btw it’s a MacBook Air 2019 intel.
I have a slight problem when I open preferences > Bios in the place where I browse nothing is written there I don't know how to get the directory to browse the correct bios
I’d try downloading a different version as nightly builds can contain glitches
Having trouble downloading the games.is there any tutorial on how to download a game first before tweaking the graphics?
Downloading games (they’re distributed as ISOs) is technically piracy. However I’m sure there’s plenty of info out there if you were to search PlayStation 2 ISOs in a search engine
right clicking still won't allow me to open pcsx any work arounds?
This changed in Sequoia, now you need to go to security and whitelist the application.
@ thank you thank you that worked…now I can finish the video😂
Maybe a rookie question, but where do you download the games from? Can you just torrent them?
Since they're copyrighted that's on you to provide. I'm sure popular search engines and sites like Archive dot org will help you.
Have a question I recently purchased a silicon mac and I transferred everything from my intel Mac including the intel ps2 emulator version. It works fine but would u recommend to download the silicon version?
AetherSX2 2 will run better but the dev has ceased development so at some point in the future AetherSx2 will be deprecated
@@dmug mann u right definitely runs better i just tried it so smoothly thank you. And damn forreal ? Thats bad :(
@@Louisz14 yeah, apparently people would harass the poor dude non stop and say horrible things like he should kill himself in emails and such. There’s a Reddit threads that goes into it. Absolutely crazy terrible.
@@dmug people are horrible man, but why tho? and btw this video in the best tutorial thank u so much
@@Louisz14 Apparently this is a problem in the emulation community, authors are frequently harassed. There's some tinfoil hats that think it could be paid actors but really, I think it appeals a subset of gamers who are proven to be willing, capable and terrible. I had no idea until the author posted he was no longer working on the emulator and deleted all of his accounts and decided to search why it happened. Can't say I blame the guy and it reminds me why I try to mostly ignore gaming culture as I don't have time for the drama and toxicity.
One of my games drops down to 30 fps but the video is trying to play it at 60 forcing it to slow down and not load textures in properly, is there any way to fix this?
I'd first check the PCSX2 compatibility database and see if there are any notes about the game, some of the entries include tips and fixes.
where would I get the game files
I have a 2017 iMac 27 in 5k 3.4 ghz i5 will it work on mines
Video helped out a bunch but I've only seemed to have one problem that started recently, every time i load a game (dmc3 for example) after a few cutscenes my screen turns black and it shuts down entirely. is there any way to fix that by anychance?
I’d google to see if there’s similar problems and try a newer version as there are issues using these experimental builds.
