i used google translate several ways when traveling in Thailand and Turkey earlier this year. The speech method as shown in the video works great, however i really liked using the google translate camera which when you point the phones camera at Thai writing, it converts it to english directly on your screen for me to read. This is really helpful for street signs, menus, product info written on items etc. That combined with google lens really made things fast and easy.
it works absolutley the same you think this company creatd thier own translation code or just borrowed what already exisists and put in a dvice for morons to buy thier prodct?
Great video! After a few rounds of this demo, I can tell that this app's engine is (likely) completely based on Google Translate's language model infrastructure. Having been involved on many levels of real time translation research, I definitely respect and applaud what they are trying to solve with this app. So call the following constructive commentary, not "hate". Google Translate is to chat GPT 4+ as the original Spiderman TV show is to the current Spiderman marvel movies, This tech will very quickly change and improve, and this is absolutely paradigm shifting. Still, make sure your kids are multilingual. Love this channel!
Thanks so much for sharing this new technology. I’ve ordered 1 for myself and sent the link to 14 friend who travel Internationally. $127 with Discount. I live in Thailand but want for other SEA destinations.
What they don’t tell you is it only works for a year - then more costs to buy more data space. Also the download ‘offline’ packs DO NOT include Thai being Chinese most ‘off line packs’ are Chinese to another language (not Thai) If the device included Thai as an ‘off line pack’ and was not limited to one year in the initial cost (@120 USD ) then it maybe worth the money Another device exactly the same with a different logo is also on the market I suspect made by the same company
That's the most important info. Thanks. The device was also much too complicated with some translations, no one speaks like that. If you order a non sweetened coffee e.g., you probably just say Cappuccino Mai waan krap.
One thing that made the translations complicated was the way the questions were made in English. Simple, short questions would get a much simpler audio translation response.@@guido3771
I'm about to buy this for my trip in October I'll be able to have full conversations with my mother in law !! Thats for showing this man! Glad you showed it before the trip
This is your brother. LOL. It's really a great idea, and someday... with large language (AI) models, we'll have a babelfish. But for now, it's honestly more fun to just go be confused and experience surprises. And man, I miss Thailand and it's wonderful people (and food)!
Your making me feel homesick Chris, and you are giving me a very homely feeling at the restaurant. Thailand is very amazing place, its a positive energy magnet, once you get hooked you get attracted back each time. The device is amazing, beats google translate since its direct handheld and compact. Great Video Chris. 🥰🥰

I am practicing Thai for 4 months now. I guess it’s a great support if it saves the conversations so you can look it up later and check the Thai scripture.
@@richardb6844 I am practicing online, first self-paced but now in a group of three via zoom. I have learnt the grammar regarding sentence structure and the tenses and I can read and write (slowly of course). Main issues is the different tones for the pronunciation and the scripture. But it’s a start and I have to try hard to create my own sentences and to understand a native speaker in a normal pace. Will be a long way but believe me, it’s quite essential when you get an idea about what is written in huge letters in front of your eyes and to have at least a little guess of what the people around you are talking about.
GREAT GREAT GREAT VIDEO. I was born in US but parents are from Ukraine. I plan on going over there next year and this is something that will help greatly. I speak some Ukrainian and russian but this device will make me feel much better that I can communicate when there. subbed
As thai i can say it translate correct about 70-80% and it depend on how u speak. Gee and girl in coffee shop she use written language i think it more friendly for translate. if speak normaly like most other ppl in video it still good even some wrong translate still understand with some context.
Been using it for a year with Mexican workers + house keeper. It’s been flawless. I take it around the world. Yes there is a subscription fee after a year but for a traveler in a foreign country it’s small change, I highly recommend it!
Thanks. Probably the fairest review of this device that I've seen. Most others showed flawless translations but this showed the flaws which all tech has. An amazing device and I'll definately get myself one.
Nice to know they have these translators. Like you say, the English translation is not grammatically correct, but you get the idea what the person is saying. I have a translator on my PC laptop, but it would be too bulky to try and carry it around. As other commenters say, in the future these devices will only get better and faster in translating conversations. Take care.
With AI, maybe there will be a future where the earbuds can translate in real time to one another... Seamless conversation with little to no lag or delay would be incredible
As mobile networks upgrade the bandwidth for data it’s going to get much quicker. Also a universal translator protocol for mobile phones and air buds will happen.
This is a big improvement from the first ones that came out a few years ago. I'm impressed. This would help here in the U.S. as there are many languages spoken here. I have 3 restaurants I go to that speak a different language in each one. 3 or 4 languages spoken in my Apt. building. This is a handy device.
I got the Rough Guide Thai Phrasebook, and it allowed me to hold conversations from my first holiday of 2 months! Thailand was the first place that most people I met called me clever. That translator would have made everything for me easier except I would still be unable to have a conversation!
Great job, Christ! "Pad Prik Kang" always is one of my most favorite Thai dishes. Adding chicken meat is a good choice for a healthy Pad Prik Kang. Next time, please try "Pad Prik Kang Moo Krob" (Crispy Pork) as well; it also has a great taste.
Thanks man! Leaving to travel SE Asia soon and don't have enough time to learn the local languages. :)) Will definetely buy this device after seeing this
Amazing device Chris. Learning Thai intensely for nearly a year now & think it will be another 4-5 years before I can speak & understand the language on a very basic level. Until then, this device will be a great help
Thank you for your review, possibly the most valued item to have visiting Thailand or any other non-English speaking country. I love traveling and Thailand would be one of my most visited places since it is so close to Perth Australia.
Hi khun Cris, Hope you are well. just wanted to say that I received my board of directors shirt two weeks ago and that I love it makmak, Hope to catch up at a meetup next year once I move over to my forever home. take care na.
That's just totally awesome! Google translate worked for me in a few countries, but this is definitely a step up....close to a "42" I'd say...similar to Google translate, if you keep the language simple, slow, and deliberate, it works great.
California Native here. Lived in Mendocino County and had my own farm. Will be moving to Thailand soon. Hopefully they keep it legal. Keep us updated. Thanks.
That one girl wearing the striped sweater and short black skirt that you spoke to was really cute. Beautiful in fact. With that, you proved how this device can help a guy to meet women! In a foreign country! 👍😎
Great tool. It can really help in enhancing anyone’s travel experience in a foreign country. Well done. It might also be a life saver. I’m Asian American born in the Philippines. We probably don’t need this as much with English speaking foreigners because English is the second language of the country. But it’s always better to have it handy.
I was disappointed a few days ago when I landed in Thailand. No line of Tuk Tuks and no Leo. Not to worry, I survived, and now I'm refreshed. Tasty brew.

I find having a dedicated device is better than using a app as it’s ready to go and you don’t need to fiddle with getting your phone out , find and start using the app
