Great run, but... I always thought Tim Curry's smiles are because he (the character he's playing) is scheming, and feeling pleased of himself that his evil little plan is going so well...

Absolutely, but people just see Tim Curry. I do not know him particularly from anything, so I definitely see it as a character trait ^-^
@@Asidders Tim Curry was also Rocky in Rocky Horror Picture Show, which was absolutely as camp and ridiculous (intentionally) as Red Alert 3 ever could be.
It works in both ways, that's the Curry magic! All the fun of a character break while somehow being perfectly in character!

I don't know why people give RA3 shit, it's a great RTS game and the humour is great
The cheesiness of Red Alert is what made it great
Everyone loved Red Alert 2 Yuri's revenge, so when 8 years later they released a sequel with far worse controls, yeah people are going to give it shit, if the controls were at least on par with RA2 it would've made for a good game.
its a great rts but the game was infinitely more complex. what made ra2 iconic was its simplicity. im not saying it subtracted from the series but the backlash is definitely expected. whats more surprising or disappointing is the game never catching on. maybe there was a lack of support for the meta, maybe the marketing, it was definitely less replayable than ra2 imo: what is for sure is the game kind of just faded away.
A dollar says it was something related to EA.
The live action cutscenes were terrible yet awesome, Tim Curry tried with all of himself to deliver his lines credibly but sometimes even he cracked down.
Plus, the way that Peter Stormare delivers his fake Russian Accent kills me everytime (ten years later he would do a better job with Czerneborg in American Gods)

Three desyncs. For whatever else EA did to them, *that* part of the Westwood spirit was still alive. :P
EA didn't do anything to Westwood. Westwood themselves are to blame for their downfall, because they couldn't handle the virtually unlimited resources they have been granted.
@@wupme What do you mean? They straight up closed down westwood and after that the games got a whole lot worse.
@@wupme virtually unlimited from EA? considering its EA i really doubt that, where is your source im really curious as its the 1st time i heard that. As for the downfall that is the last CnC its all o EA because they are the one that push it, as it was not original plan to be in the main series

When this run came out, I realized that I needed to play this game for myself before watching.
I'm glad I did, it's fantastic, with the perfect cast and campy tone. Loved this run, would love to see more Red Alert!

The thing I love about the Soviet campaign is that even the actors in the cutscenes couldn't take it seriously.

okay, fair point.
but from context it sounds like they're making a dig at starcraft, remember that the weakest combat unit in that game is still a couple hundred pounds of hyperevolved killing machine with enough brute strength to swim through solid rock that can survive multiple direct hits from anti-vehicle weapons (they kinda powder it on contact by _shivering_ and pseudo-liquefy it by adding/making gasses while they vibrate) a terran footsoldier is walking around in heavy duty power armor that can take a direct hit from a siege weapon and a protoss rank-and-file zealot is a 12 foot tall genetically engineered immortal warrior with spacemagic superpowers and a couple tons of armor, none of these things are likely to die just because you drove a tank into them.
especially since the tanks in their setting are actually pretty small, basically big hulking vehicles are just bigger targets so tank-equivalents are more about shooting the other guy first...really they are a lot closer to tank-destroyers than tanks. there isn't much point in being able to ignore small arms fire when the smallest weapon on the battlefield is an anti-materiel machine gun.
the starcraft setting isn't quite WH40k silly but there's a reason that direct hits from nuclear missiles don't kill most structures in that game.

Wait than why did they still make a co-op campaign? I mean nothing wrong with having the option but am I the only person who doesn't see the reason for that and not letting the solo player just control all units and focusing on a solo playthrough???
