The humor in this game feels straight out of Portal, especially similar to Cave Johnson's lines from the perpetual testing initiative. "I almost got us all killed for nothing. Joke's on us, sorry about that." exudes pure Cave energy.
A demo disc with Mort the Chicken on it was a surprisingly significant part of my childhood. I can, decades later, recite most of the jokes in the opening cutscene from memory.
Can't believe this game came out 2 years after Spyro, 4 years after the first Crash... and the enemies are literal cubes. Can't get much more low-poly than that. What a fun run though.
8:04, 14:23 - I get the impression that the cutscenes are supposed to be various TV channels that are being flipped through. There's a little static /kshhhk/ bookending many of them, the less involved/interesting shows are watched for only a few moments, and the channel surfer (who may or may not be the player?) keeps circling back to the 24 hour yoga marathon. I'd say it's actually a pretty succinct way to explain handing exposition directly to the player, as well as being a pretty flexible framework for doing so -- just have to make enough news segments to communicate what all information you need, and any extra level transition scenes can be whatever silly shorts from whatever kinds of channels/commercials you want. It would also make Mort's profession as a TV show host make some sense, at least in terms of tying in with the game's theme/narrative framework/etc.
Man, Joester's attitude is great. Glad I watched this run after the Pacman World one Also, Punchy's commentary was on point. Damn near on par with the game's writing, so kudos on that
