As did I. I had NO idea Melee was THAT big when I was a kid. Ofc, I was just about 6-7 when it came out so it didn't occur to me that video games had tournaments.
This brings me back ❤ where has the time gone? 17 years of competitive smash next months for me, first tournament at 11❤ I remember being a middle schooler looking up all these players and now I have the honor of playing them
Love how symbolic you can take the Intro. First we see the first "5 gods" Azen, KDJ, Pc Chris, Ken, Isai and m2k who is also the first who becomes one of the new 5 gods and dominated the game. Then we get a look at Mang0 who was the 2nd God. He took the Crown from m2k and dominated until 2014 the era of the 5 gods (it would be even more perfect if Armada had a episode and a centered apearance after Mang0). So the era of the 5 gods was ended by one of the gods themselfes Hbox who is shown right at the end starting the 5th generation of Melee. This dude's just overanalyzing doc intros from 7 years ago and putting it into comments.
I don't think any intro captures the essence of an entire "anything", be it series, documentary, movies, etc, more than this one. It goes from Original SSM with that same logo, fighting in the background, into a record scratch, announcing "Boys, we aren't talking about Melee, we're talking about COMPETITIVE MELEE", kicks it up a notch, shows off the game, then the people cheering and the size of the venues, goes back to, wait is that AZEN? The music is still pumping up, more gameplay footage, introducing more Kings of Smash, showing off larger and more recent venues and clips, then breaks with Hbox into a portrait montage of all 7 kings (now 8). It's just so well executed. People down below are analyzing it and showing off how the order they were introduced also has to do with how Smash occurred and ultimately the Documentary is structured around, etc etc. It's just so good ^^
I love how they used the opening of Smash Brothers Melee in this sequence, for some reason (copyright maybe?) they just used the regular track for the later opening but this one somehow got me hyped up for a video game documentary.
Azen-a great set of skills PC Chris-Underdog from the york KDJ-Strived for greatness Mew2king-knows before it happens Ken-King of the hill Isai-King who didnt want the throne Mang0-The leader of the next gen
Honestly when I first saw this intro in the documentary I got goosebumps and a surge of nostalgia.

Look me in my eyes and tell me when you hear the beat drop and you see the crowd pop off you don’t feel the urge to jump up and go wild
