Another fantastic episode Barnesy, lots of great info for all of us! I would hate to think of how many people you ae inspiring to do their own build! Cant wait to see it back on the road, great job again.
@@tony.benfield8499 I can absolutely guarantee a finished Ute by the new year which I am holding myself to and everyone else that has stuck through it as well, thanks again for the patience!
I got an older fella to install a perfomance exhaust on my B series falcon. My instruction was loud and deep like the 90s falcons and not this raspy wasp sound B series and FGs tend to have. And it sounds just like an EL with extractors, only 4 times louder. Its awesome and makes a lotta people turn heads
I’m not up to speed with the Ford models but it’s a delicate balance with any performance engine to get the right loudness without ruining the note of the engine
I took my panelvan (308) into Shepparton guy looking for a big twin system. He had 30+years in shop and had race cars etc himself. I didn't want crackling sound, looking for deep rumble and didn't want droning noise at highway revs. Against my gut i let him do twin 2" and he swears he had done dyno to prove the bigger system loses power on stock engine. Absolutely stoked with the note. I'll checked the brand of muffler, I can't see one but I thought it was Lukey. Not high performance engine just stock but ripping sound. It's extractors with twin into one giant dual inlet/outlet muffler out to twin tail pipes. Checked my 253 also and it is extractors into full twin, dual mufflers, also 2" , also sounds magnificent. Again, I'm only talking note, not horsepower.
@@poydapoyderson646 thanks mate, 2 inch is smaller than I’ve heard of but maybe as you said for the note it crisps it up a bit. I think the 355 with the 280 solid CAM will need to clear its throat more so will be interesting to see what’s recommended. The lukey mufflers have been mentioned twice so far so they sound like they need to be explored
@@BarnesysBuildsit sounds counter-intuitive but a twin 2” bent properly (no crush bends) with Lukey mufflers sounds nuts. Might go SLIGHTLY larger running the cam but they flow better than we think at 2”
Lukey mufflers are my go to muffler. They sound the best I reckon. Ive had them on 6 cylinder and V8 engines and never been disappointed by the sound they make👍
@@Pickers20 cheers, I didn’t get around to it in this vid but the plan is to use Buildninjas LED selector kit alongside the GSS-3000 Dakota Digital indicator unit so you just hook it up to the cable pin on the rachet and program the led to show the correct gear when changed.
On my 406sbc I had a twin 2.5 inch mild steel with red back mufflers that dumped at the diff. Swapped to a full stainless 3 inch with larger 14 inch mufflers and pipes right out the back, and the 3 inch sounds 100% better, a lot deeper tone. The 2.5 inch sounded raspy at high revs, but may have a bit to do with the mufflers as well.
@@BarnesysBuildsI’ll try get a sound clip. I reckon if you’ve got something moving a lot of air the 3 inch will be better, the 2.5 was actually louder at idle. 3 inch with nice big mufflers sounds great.
@@BarnesysBuilds ua-cam.com/video/SiqC6-u66bA/v-deo.htmlsi=OUBWfWtWoEX8F1vt Not the best video, first is 2.5 second 3 inch. Not exactly like for like systems either.
Its starting to look good, like my project along time in the making, yours will be on the road before mine I dare say. As for Aeroflow I can add the following observations. I bought a 140 amp alternator for a 253 V8 under that brand name & I was told that they were shite. I found it not to be ideal but not shite. I bought the Aeroflow because @ the time I had difficulty in sourcing one with a better brand reputation. Also I had bought an Aeroflow engine cradle for an LS & that was reasonable quality. & I bought that cradle because in the 1st instance I bought a "Proflow" brand cradle for the same engine & the fit & welding was rubbish, I took it back for a refund. As you will know both brands sell a range of different products that are manufactured from a range of generic Chinese companies, often one product can be made from several independent manufacturers looking completely identical. So the issues will be that quality control will vary through that chain. Obviously the issue of quality is going to be different from product to product, the defects in an engine cradle will be more easy to pick than a alternator or shift kit. This has made me think more carefully on what I go cheap on & what I go mid range or all out on. Not that this is any guarantee you will never come undone via such purchases.
Yes i think there is definitley a balance of saving on less complicated parts where you can and spending on parts where it could be a major failure point, i think i have done that with most of the major components, accept mabe this shifter. However it feels rock solid and the build quality is very robust and well built so i am not really concerned about it, it was more so the alignment for the cable that i was worried about. Thanks for the insight.
