Irregulars doesn't cost you or your puppet anything. Some Irregulars have terrain bonusses similar to special forces. I don't think there is any disadvantage about them. Most of them are best used in desert, forest or mountain IIRC. Their equipment is also just created, so aside from free manpower, a freely trained unit, you get the manpower free (or in this case your puppet) and you get the equipment for free. You do reinforce them with actual MP and Eq, which is why you best use them where they're stronged or otherwise on guard duty.

I tend to have the videos in the bakgrund as I play or chill. And have tried some of the ways of going about things. Even if I have not followed exactly or not managed to, they have helped
Everything was going well until I had I joined the germans, I couldn't get enough naval superiority to invade UK. Plus France fell a little later than in your playthrough. I did get to puppet all of Italy though.

Is it just me or does the Greece focus tree fell unfinished. When you for Byzantium that’s kinda it. There’s no further focuses. Whereas the Ottoman focus tree has plenty to do after forming the empire.
On my first try doing this I got the most op Italy and the weakest Germany I have ever seen and my first naval invasion got pushed back by coast guards on every single tile and the Italy proceeded to cap Germamy once they declared on Poland
