creating an inventory of everything that I own || my minimalism journey

- Follow along as I catalogue every single thing that I own. This was a challenging and eye-opening task, to say the least… I think this has given me a clear direction for where I want to go with my minimalism and where I want to be with it in the next 5 or so years!

✨ about my channel
I will be sharing the ups and downs of life and how to attempt to get through it in one piece. I’ll share realistic life advice, minimalism tips, routines, vlogs, and anything else I think you would benefit from! Life is messy and unpredictable, and learning how to manage these hurdles is the first step to leading a happier and more intentional life. We're all trying our best out here, and I just want to share what is and isn't working for me.
Sending you all my love,
Grace
I did this for myself a little bit ago. I loved the process of going through my things, keeping, selling, or donating then cataloging them in a notion database. It gave me such a great sense of overseeing control of my things. I still look and update my database every now and again as I buy or trade out some things. One thing that's different between you and me is that I live out of a duffel bag and backpack as my home isn't so stable at the moment. So I can sort things by "container" i.e. backpack or duffel. I also added the estimated price of everything to see how much value everything I own is. Lastly, I have extra database views for things I'm "reconsidering" to keep or things to "swap out" for better or newer things.
This is so smart if we don’t want to label it means it’s clutter and need to let it go. I’m going to do this
My rule is to borrow the book at the library and only buy it if I really love it…. Don’t ask me how many books I’ve bought after borrowing them (it’s like 80% lol)
that's 100% my plan after I read through my current personal library bc it's just a more cost effective way to go and I've been spending absolutely unnecessary amounts on books lately 🙃
Kindles are great too!
I recently got a kindle and it's the best purchase I've made in years LOL
@@gracenevitt it’s seriously amazing. Replacing physical books with the kindle was life changing for my minimalism journey!
Same!
Good luck. This process is daunting at first but can me such an eye opener in the end. I think I started the year with around 250 items. Now at 130. Only personal, not the rest of my toddlers.
that's amazing!!!
That’s so cool! Does that include clothing? I
yes @@BriannaNorman-pf5tj
Very meticulously going through your things the way you are is one great way to see what you really have. I thought I had very much narrowed down a category of my stuff until I decided to pull what I had left out of a drawer and realized I still had way more than I would use.
absolutely!! it was a huge eye opener for sure 🙈
I’m just starting my journey with detaching myself from the things I own and avoiding over consumption and I can’t even imagine doing this with the amount I own in my bedroom as a college student living in my parents house, but I did this with my books that I own just to understand the amount I own.
Me and my 500+ books don't think 67 sounds too bad. But very impressive that you're trying to minimize them. Good luck!
we all start from somewhere!! LOL I had soo many more this time last year haha
Grace ,youve come a long way in your minimalism journey. I too am a minimalist in training!
You look lovely in this video x
thank you so much😭💗
I loved this video. I cant wait to see next weeks vid. Ive been thinking about doing this but Im already quite neurotic 😆 and I dont want to obsess over the numbers. But how you are doing it with planning to move feels purposeful
you can make it purposeful too! I'd say numbers are NEVER a good thing to obsess over and you can easily hide the count feature on notion :) make your end goal a manageable amount of stuff where you couldn't see yourself easily parting with each thing on the list
Ohhh I love it 💕, I totally would love to hear more your thoughts about the process. I think I will try this too (and the notion tamplet would be so cool 🙏🏽), I already know I will have a lot of thinking about what to do with books, notebooks and all the paper 🙈
I just got rid of all my books because I can find them all at the library :) Love your channel :)
that's basically my next step!! there's a few reference books and other books I know I'll come back to many times (that I've annotated) that I'll be keeping, but I'm hoping to keep that number to under 20 at the most 😅
Chimmy 😂💕 I loved watching this video, can't wait for next weeks video! 😊
you get it !!!! 😂💗
I've been inspired by all of your videos, and then you pulled out the Chimmy lip balm and almost died! Thank you for documenting your journey and sharing it with us!
😂💗 YESS love this!! welcome to the channel!! so happy you've made your way here 🥰
Yes please create a notion template
It would be very handy. 😊
ohh thank you for reminding me!! I made one a week ago (for my other video) but forgot to add it to the description of this video!! just added ☺️
Also, I think you look great in glasses. I always wished I needed glasses when I was younger hehe
thank you 🥹💗
I just did the same thing! And i somehow have less than i thought - under 400, including 45 books, and a mediocre collection of bratz dolls lol.
that's wild!! I don't know how my number is still so damn high 🥲 maybe it's bc I'm counting nearly everything as its own item?
(ex: instead of "make-up bag" it's "make-up bag, mascara, concealer, lip balm, blush, etc")
or maybe I just need to declutter a lot more stuff LOL
I am reorganising one part of my wardrobe. Do you know what? As of 28 December 2023 I am not able to catalogue the things I own because it’s an exorbitant amount. I will need to hire help for a few days. You’re already doing fabulous.
thank you so much!! and don't be discouraged!! do fractions at a time and take your time!!!! you got this!
Another great one!
💗💗💗
I'm working on this at the moment [ writing everything down ] and the amount of items I own is ridiculous.
like I said... if I had to write in all the kitchen stuff etc it would be a lot more 😅
Where did you get the iPad keyboard from and what brand is it?
I bought it from apple when I bought my ipad! it's called the magic keyboard I think??
Such a great idea!! Sad you didn’t share the numbers😅
I didn't in this video only because I don't have a realistic overview due to the fact that I live in a place where I own maybe less than 40% of what's in it. I own less than 15 kitchen things when I use a lot more, and I own virtually no furniture even though the house is full of stuff. but if y'all are curious, I'll share in my next video 💗

It's not a contest but....Maybe this will give you focus. I own 45 things plus 50-ish clothing items for two seasons. A shoebox counts as one item contains like items like dental, or kitchen utensils etc. Renting/single/no kids allows for fewer posessions obviously and for maintenance/yards etc.
I own 45 things (plus 55 clothing).
I could move out in 2 hours except for a moving truck for my bed and chair/ottoman and maybe TV. Everything else fits in my car.
