- Well everyone, I wanted to thank you all for all the help. It ended up being a little bit of a carb issue and a compression issue. We placed a base gasket, then a 1 mm shim from Smolik Performance, and another base basket. This allowed me to not have to use a head gasket, just the Oring head gasket that comes with the Smolik Performance head. My piston squish ended up being 0.90mm ish. I learned from everyone you want to get your reading for piston squish from the wrist pin side (Towards the magneto or clutch not from the intake port or exhaust port).
The reason why you don’t get your reading from the exhaust side is that the piston can rock when you're getting your readings. Maybe that was why my readings were different each time. Anyways kick back and enjoy!!
What is the reason for distorting the O-Ring gasket around the studs like that?
Why not updatethe groove for a simple circular installation, it would simplify the installation and improve the integrity of the O-Ring.
That is an interesting thought 🤔 😀. I will say that replaying the O ring was super easy. I thought it would be a little harder to get it to shape well into the groves but no easy. With that said... just a full circle makes sense in my head. 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@grendelsgarage9723
thanks for replying, ..there maybe a problem with the amount of space available but from the video it seems like there is plenty of "parent metal" that can be removed to instal the O-Ring without the bulges around the studs. I am super impressed with your results tho,..Keep going
🎉🎉🎉 thank you! Yes, that is a great idea 💡. Yep, we will keep going. New carb or jet up will be next, I think.
Should have bought that engine from someone else I do 50 with a small block thanks for the ride brother
What you did to that engine was straight love and time brother. I've learned a lot from your last build. It was hard to see you break that bad boy down this week but dam it was so cool 😎. Ride safe!
Right on, ride safe! Don't be afraid to reach out for any assistance or questions.
You guys rock! Thank you very much 😊. I will do that for sure. Thanks for the quality product. I knew they were good, but I didn't know they were this epic! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉❤❤❤❤
Great video bro you can tell your loving the motor n having fun that’s what it’s all about right there bro
😂😂😂😂 thanks brother! Can't wait to see you ripping it up!!! Yeah I was pretty pumped. 😍 🎉🎉🎉 ride safe!!
Hell yeah that’s awesome bro
Get a pipe and a pwk21 and you won't hit any walls mine takes off and keeps pulling all the way through to about 49mph on 26s with a 40t things a torque monster too 😂
I'm just waiting for gomax to get restocked for pipes, or if someone else starts making them, I will get one. For sure, I will have to jet up, but I do think she needs a bigger carb. I bet yours screems 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Nice brother I'll be honest I think a good pipe and good carburetor jetted right makes a motor I'll put that in the 📚 book of motorized bicycles
I agree with that, brother. A good pipe and a well tuned carb and your set! Thanks for the support 🙏 🎉🎉
Holy smokes!! I’m really thinking of getting one of those heads. Thanks for the ride brotha😎😎
Hey bro you shouldn't be able to turn that motor over with your fingers there should be some resistance there
You shouldn't be able to turn the motor over with your fingers like that bro
@@Putamotoronit1971 his clutch locked into place guy
#1 sqish setting on any motor from .65 mm to .90 mm and check it at wrist pin. 💯 % fact. #2 the purpose of a o ringed head is to loose the head gasket. #3 the o ring is hand cut and glued hence look closely at it you'll see. Been running o rings gaskets for prostock motorcycle over 20yrs .my question is what happend to all the supposed power gains with the smolik head. Get you a motorcycle type carb. You will gain throttle control in all areas of throttle range. If you Don't know how to tune carbs go to my Playlist I explain what each circuit does and how to tune them. Hey what do I know only been building 2 and 4 strokes ehh 46 yrs
@2strokecarbtuningportingin187 all of our orings are 100% complete full circle orings, we do not glue them to size.
Ooo yea most importantly great video and great job. Seems to run super legitimate for a bolt on bicycle engine. Defiantly impressed for the $ value. 👍
Thank you very much, brother. Nailed it 😂😂 straight from the box bolt on power!
Runs good. I just put the Avenger 85 on my trike today. Planning on getting that same head as well
On a trike, no way!!! That is bad a#$ !!! I had an electronic trike before my UA-cam days 😂😂😂 it wasn't too bad until you had to turn. Be safe with that 🙏 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@grendelsgarage9723 Yeah you can't turn at all. I've got it going 48mph I'll make a g p s video this weekend
I saw your video 📹 👀 😮😮😮😮😮😮 that was amazing 👏 but you be safe 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
12:39 be happy its rain and not snow i cant ride cause the roads are coverd in snow
Hope you're finally warming up!! We are getting green grass but lots of rain 🌧!
@grendelsgarage9723 nope lol it was 65 yesterday so super nice today is 12 with 4 in of snow that's michigan weather for ya 😕
Sounds awesome brother you said the squash was 0.9 my caliper reads like this 0.00 so that would be 0.90 squash correct if so your avenger has the same squash like my athina minaralli tight
Yep, Mike, that is what I was reading after I learned to get to readying from the wrist pin side. Those athina builds are sweet!!
Im guessing a lot of mud water is going into your carburetor from the rear tire without an air filter cover.
😂😂😂 yeah I'm sure water got in there. Didn't seem to mind the next when when we hit 46mph.
@@grendelsgarage9723 that's cool. I'm switching my black skull lookin cover to the red one as it kinda acts as an air scoop. I'm sure it's less air flow but I live in Washington state where it rains a lot and eventually all that grit will prematurely wear out the crankshaft seals and the bearings. I'm trying to see how many miles I can get out of my 49mm iron sleeve. My goal is 5000 with only seals replaced and maybe 10,000. I do need an odometer now that I think about it.
@@dustinh4175 yes indeed you want an Odometer!! Good luck! I would maybe replace your piston rings or ring at some point 👉. That would be so many times those rings would be going up and down. 😅😅😅🤣🤣🤣crazy to think about. Riding in the rain is no joke be safe!
@@grendelsgarage9723 I put some caber saw rings on from Italy. They seem like better quality but I have no clue what to expect. They have a ring gap that's probably too big from the factory a .014 so I don't even know if it'll have any power at all. I'm hoping for a high rpm power more than torque monster as it is a 2 stroke and there's just something cool about making power at 11,000 rpm on a bicycle seeing the look on driver's faces when your Motor just keeps revving higher.
😂😂😂😂😂 I love that brother ❤️ Let's go! I'm not going to lie, I'm not sure what a good ring gap is? 🤔. Are you running 2 or 1 rings? The rings you got sound mint though!!
Great ride man!!!!!
🎉🎉🎉 thank you very much 😊. The rain ride had me down but the next day was just mint. 🎉🎉
Cool vid 🤙shes a runner. Ur at the crussroads now, r ya happy the way she is or keep upgrading 🤷♂️its all about what ur in it for. Have fun and ride safe.
You're 100 percent right about the crossroads. Right now, I have 3 major projects for the Chanel, and I might be extending it to 4 😅😅😅. For this build, a pip le would be so sick! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
The o ring gets pinched in the gasket.. i had the same problem with mine on my avenger. The leak was between the gasket and cylinder... I reused the ripped o ring and it was fine . Had to sand the top of cylinder for it to seal.. . But you're compression was fine that wont make it fail
Interesting 🤔 👀 I'm going to agree with you. Now that I'm just running the O ring, I'm having zero issues. 🎉🎉🎉 thanks for that info about your Avenger, ride safe.
Sounds wicked
Thanks! I have her ripping now. Just need to find time to get my nibbi pe 19 on!
You need to put some flex seal around were the wires go into the motor because the front tire throws water right on that.I found out the hard way and had to replace the magneto.I ride mine to work 20 miles a day 4 days a week and iv figured alot out.
Aaawwww!! That is a great idea 💡 thanks for the tip! Dam nro you put down some miles!
You shouldnt be able to turn that motor over with your fingers like that
I have the cluch lever engaged with the push lock so it stays engaged. I do this so I can move the rod and piston freely. Thanks for the comment. All motorized bicycle motors will do this.
@@grendelsgarage9723 yes I know but there should be some Resistance there you shouldn't be able to turn it with your fingers ask anybody ask la hover
@@grendelsgarage9723 I have a phantom and surley can't turn it with my fingers
@kencompton4847 I'm very strong 💪. Joking, but that is interesting 🤔. Sorry I don't have an answer for that. Running well now.
Sounds like you might be a hair rich move your needle jet up 1 notch and keep a eye on it you don't want to go to lean but it'll get you more power
🎉🎉 thank you! I'm working on jets right now. Ran a little lean with a 70. Up a 72 in her today. I will move the needle 🪡 up after my test run.
My experience with the carb (the NT bofeng) is it wants all the air it can get. I tried a velocity stack and my bike was a pig took it back off picked up 8 mph. I run mine with nothing on it…
Very interested 👌 I would have guessed that the Vstack would have only held, but you don't know till you try! 🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
@@grendelsgarage9723 it’s a gimmick, restricts airflow at least in this application…
Idk if it's just me or what, but every time I put on smolik o-rings on the head on avenger 85, it will ruin the o-ring in those corners. So basically every time I take the head off (after some miles of riding or whatever) I have to replace it.
@trentbikes interesting 🤔 👀. I have only had that happened 1 time, but with that being said, I've not taken the head off in quite a long time now. Do you put any oil 🛢 on the ring when you install it?
nice bike, seen your exhaust strapped, every time I do that the welds cracks,
Really?? That is interesting because it does seem to put a lot of side stress on the pipe.
Hello sputtering at full throttle is a sign of running lean
Agreed 100 percent. We are running lean and full tilt. I will need to get a new carb or jet up.
Why don't you use permatex gasket shellac light coat will seal everything I wouldent use a head with o ring just stock aluminum head gasket or copper
@user-ps8fy1te6p are you talking about using it for the base gaskets? If so, I wasn't sure if I wanted to take the cylinder off again at that point. Once I put those brown rubber gaskets in, I've had 0 issues. Runs great no leaks, but you can for sure run with a copper or aluminum head gasket as well.
Olá qual o link para comprar esse cabeçote?
smolikperformance.com/collections/frontpage/products/smolik-cnc-head
Mas consigo comprar pra entregar no Brasil?
I would email one of the boys at Smokil Performance. I'm not sure what their shipping policy is . 🤔 😅😅.
You don’t use a head gasket when there’s an O-ring the O-ring is the head gasket
I agree. That was my end goal with adding 2 base gaskets with the 1 mm shim between the gaskets. From my understanding, if you need to, you can also run a head gasket with the O ring, which is a great feature 👍 thanks for the support 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Someone needs to make a good expansion chamber for this and the phantom 85
Agreed 👍 🤝. I was so close to getting the phantom 👻 👽, bu this bad boy cam out.
@@grendelsgarage9723 it still runs fast but an expansion would make a big difference. I can pull the front off the ground
@Westhelockpicker no doubt the phantom still has the crown for power 💪. Have any issues with over heating? Still might have to get one!
@@grendelsgarage9723 no it runs cooler than my yd100 I have on another bike
1st mod, remove air filter.
2nd mod, remove baffle.
3rd mod, get mz65 clone.
4th mod, aluminum frame.
5th mod, balance tires.
6th mod, port intake and exhaust.
7th mod, balance crank.
8th mod, replace bearings with US grade.
9th mod, more cc's.
You dont need the Head gasket with the smolik head. The o ring is the gasket.
Just needs a smaller jet as it's 4 stroking
I'm working on Jets right now. Ran a little lean later on with a 70. Bumping it up to a 72. 🎉🎉
Which option did you choose when you bought the head? Was it the minvert 66-80cc option?
@JamesJames-li2wv no you want to get the Avenger/phantom head. It's for a 52mm piston
@@grendelsgarage9723 I bought the minvert 8mm stud head and it seem to fit perfectly, but I noticed it's been four stroking like crazy, did you have this problem? Because before it ran perfectly, and changing the jets hasn't made it go away?
@JamesJames-li2wv that is interesting 🤔. I didn't have much 4 stroking at all with my build until I put larger jets. What I don't understand is if the piston is a 52mm, then why does it come with a head that is meant for a 50mm boar? That is why I upgraded to the smolik performance head. It's made for a 52mm boar 🐗 😍. Hope that makes sense. Maybe check your piston squish. Or maybe you are having crosstalk with your exhaust port and intake.
what size jet do you have in the carb?
I'm running a 72 jet in the Bo Fang. Hoping to up my nibbi PE 19 on her soon. Thanks for watching 👀 🙂 🙏
Is that O ring black or brown?
The O ring that came in the head was black, and the replacement pack that I bought came with 2 brown ones. I didn't have any issues replacing the O ring and is running like a champ 💪.
😂😂🎉🎉 we are running well now! 👍 thanks for the honesty! Another point towards why you guys rock! Thank you very much.
Great rude along ny nan she's running 💪
@robertduffy4787 Thanks so much 🙏. I'm very happy with this motor. 😊 love this hobby!! 😀
Muito bom
🎉🎉😊😊 thank you!!!!!
Doing amazing working and understanding these!! keep it up brotha!! 🫡
Simple but hard, haha. The Bikes are the hardest part, hahaha thanks beother man!
what kind of bike is that?
@larryshaver3568 I believe it's a 1999 Schwin fleet. Love this bike steel frame 😍
I hate to break it to you, but that carburetor sucks ass if you want that thing to really fly, you have to change your entire manifold put a reed valve on it in and a different carburetor. If you do that it’ll probably give you at least another horsepower maybe two just by changing the carburetor. And if you want to really make a night and day difference slap a real expansion chamber pipe on it and all together you will gain 3 hp or so and always run a NGK plug it maters.
I'm going to agree about the carb so far. I'm not a fan of the bofang. The NT is better. I'm sitting on a Nibby 19 plus the new smolik performance manifold for a piston port run. I have 0 experience with reeds, but I'm willing to lean. Yep, I do enjoy the NKG plugs 🔌 😉 the just work. Ride safe, and thanks for the comment.
Can't ride it in the rain you'll have to clean it
I hit it with a fan and wiped it down. Runs 🏃♀️ great 👍
Take the cap off the carb
I ended up running without the air filter and had great results. This carb will need to be jeted up. I ordered them. 212 preditor jets, I believe. Thanks 👍
