  • Santa Monica, CA - June 5, 2024: Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies conducted an end-of-day sweep of the Metro train system following the last ride of the evening. As the final train arrived, deputies boarded to inform passengers it was the end of the line and the train was now closed. Many riders were sleeping, requiring deputies to wake them and have them exit. The trains then returned to the service station for routine maintenance and cleaning, with service resuming at 4 a.m. the following morning. The Sheriff's Deputies maintained professionalism, kindness, and courtesy while ensuring firmness and efficiency in clearing the trains.
E Line service hours are from approximately 4:30 a.m. to 11:45 p.m. daily. Trains operate every 8 minutes during peak hours, Monday to Friday. During midday on weekdays and weekends, from 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m., trains run every 10 minutes. Night and early morning service is approximately every 20 minutes daily.
Earlier in the day, at the downtown Santa Monica Station, Metro Ambassadors, the Metro Outreach Team, and The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Mental Evaluation Team (LASD MET) offered outreach and assistance to riders.
Metro Ambassadors support riders on Metro buses, trains, and stations, connect them to resources, and report maintenance and safety concerns. They are part of a multilayer plan to improve public safety, including security and law enforcement, homeless and mental health outreach workers, and cleaning crews.
Metro Homeless Outreach Teams engage with unhoused riders on buses, trains, and stations, connecting them to resources. These teams are also part of the multilayer safety improvement plan.
The LASD MET provides crisis assessment, intervention, and targeted case management to defuse potentially violent situations. They assist in placing individuals with mental illness in psychiatric facilities or linking them to outpatient services. Each team includes a deputy sheriff and a licensed mental health clinician authorized to initiate involuntary psychiatric hospitalization. This co-response model aims to reduce use-of-force incidents, hospitalizations, and unnecessary incarcerations of mentally ill individuals. LASD MET also provides training for de-escalation, crisis negotiations, and reducing incarcerations.
The downtown Santa Monica Station serves as the terminal stop for the Metro line, making it crucial for authorities to ensure all passengers exit the train upon reaching its final destination. This measure addresses reports of some unhoused individuals using the train as a makeshift shelter, remaining on board for extended periods and even sleeping onboard.
Sheriff's Deputies and Metro Security at the downtown Santa Monica Station combine security duties with passenger welfare checks. Their responsibilities include monitoring trains and platforms, enforcing the code of conduct, tackling fare evasion, and upholding the rule of law to ensure safety and security for all passengers.
The increased law enforcement presence at the station is part of a broader effort to address concerns related to criminal activity, instill a sense of safety among commuters, and ultimately restore confidence in the Metro system. This proactive approach is designed to deter criminal behavior and encourage ridership without fear.
Authorities urge passengers to remain vigilant and report any suspicious or unsafe situations promptly. In emergencies, passengers should dial 9-1-1. For non-emergency security concerns, passengers can reach security personnel at 888.950.7233. Additionally, passengers can use the train intercom or station intercoms, marked by red signs on station platforms, to alert Metro staff to any incidents.
The heightened security measures underscore the commitment of the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Deputies to ensure a safe and secure travel experience for all Metro passengers, with a renewed focus on the downtown Santa Monica Station as a key point in the transit system.

These are a couple of the good sheriffs. They know the passengers and who the trouble makers are. This city needs more like this.

The sheriff deputies know who the trouble makers are, but if they arrest them, the liberal policies and liberal DAs won't prosecute them. There is no punishment or accountability for being a criminal/ troublemaker.

Good to hear, but it won't last unforunately.
The origianl Gold Line was a decent experience as it served a part of L.A. that wasn't ghetto. It went through areas that are still populated by middle class to high-salaried people (that went to work whether they liked it or not).
Then, after consolidation with the decrepid "blue line' the amount of homeless, fould odors, and general filth rose 100% . This last hope of a decent and quiet ride is no more.
If I were a mayor or councilperson within Los Angeles County, I would not entertain nor allow the MTA to build a light rail system through my city, as it only brings down property values, taxes first responder duties, increases theft of adjacent businesses, and eventuially forces long-term families (which invested with the commuity through local patronage, involvement with school and community activities, attracting like-minded business and capital investments) to move away en mass.
This is why Los Angeles is now listed as a top ten city with residential and business leaving.
Thank the stupid DA Gascon as a prime motivator for attracting homeless to overun the city and its infrastructures (like buses, trains, stations, and once pristine public parks).
Who wants to raise a family in a city losing control on safety?

It's the same at other stations. This is why the MTA loses ridership. Passengers are uncomfortable going on the trains and buses. Public transportation was never intended to be roaming homeless shelters where you have people riding until the trains are out of service. I don't know why the MTA doesn't force people off immediately when they're basically trespassing on the transit network. They shouldn't be allowed to ride all day.

The MTA Board is filled with a bunch of career politicians ONLY interested in making $$$$ from your taxes....without returning the favor by keeping the buses and trains safe. Most of them are appointed through nepotism or chroneism. Some only win because their parent was a prominent politician back in the day. So, they are disconnected with the stark reality afflicting the MTA public system. None of them ride the system!
They just don't care! Proof: not one of them has willfully gone public about mitigating all the problems. You only hear or see them when local news stories call them out.

I was so excited when I found out the expo line was going to open walking distance to my condo building. Since I have season tickets to the Los Angeles Kings, I thought how convenient for me. I can go, drink, have fun and reward myself for all the hard work that I put in to my community. It took me 4 times of riding this line to figure out that my family and I weren’t safe. Here in California, we pay the highest taxes of any other state. I pay 12k in property taxes for a 950sq foot condo for what. To deal with this?!? "You shouldn’t go out here at night" my wife walks my 3 lbs Yorkie here. Just like the girl said, it’s skid row

    • @HM-uf1lv

Sorry to hear about this. But, yeah, the MTA system is not a safe alternative for any transport (be it primary or secondary) withn the Los Angeles area. One reason why there is so much auto congestion at all times.
Hard to believe the politcians are selling the idea of public trasnport during the next Olympics (yet another waste of your hard earned taxes). Where I work, the people in charge of upselling public transportation dont even use public buses or trains...at all.

When the da and judges don’t care I think the cops find the more economical way to deal with these people. Take their stuff. If it was me they’d each get 2-3 years. Hey I just want to say I think it's pretty good that they step up security on the train and all that but they should take some extra security off and put on the street where you needed to I mean it's a damn shame and you got to have to hold the sheriff for us protect the train because people want to sleep and spray paint and destroy it that's sad why I can't know when people just ride the train go to where they got to go and that's it you know why waste or police force
On the train when we need it on the street too

This is what all MTA Baord Members must watch! They never will, because they all know this is the sad state of affairs aboard all of their rollng stock. The only resolution is a class-action lawsuit vs LA Metro to finally make them accountable for the damage they allowed over the past five years! The MTA Baord instructs the drivers to allow non-paying passage and not enforce the rules (which are written inside the buses). The decrepid conditions are the 'norm' nowadays and the MTA Board uses this as an excuse to do nothing eluding to it as a public mental health crisis. What!? The MTA Board created the health and safety issues due to lax leadership. Day and night, every bus and train is a rolling homeless shelter now.
Only reason why the police are being increased is for the upcoming Olympics (a waste of tax monies) a few years away, as it will take that long to gradually rid the system of trouble.
The deputies are to be commended, because I would never have the patience for drug use, disobedience, and 'gaming' the system by these individuals which...by the way... 100% put themselves into homeless situations.
Sorry if this hurts your feelings, but I don't give a damn about people who abuse the social system, don't want to work, and yet feel they are owed everything without breaking a drop of sweat.

    • @taralen1101
      @taralen1101 25 днів тому

1.75 one way. 3.25 round trip. Transfers are free to other metro train/subway lines. Metrolink is separate.

    • @HM-uf1lv
      @HM-uf1lv 24 дні тому +2

Its free! No one is checking fare payment (like they used to aboard trains and platforms). And, all the drivers are instructed by the MTA Board to allow free passage to anyone. So, you can pay the stated fare, but can also ride free if you game the system like most of these losers do. Reportedly, they will require proof of payment to LEAVE a train platform, but lets be real, who will enforce that 24/7?
Its a joke. No one is enforcing fare payments. As long as the government subisdizes the L.A. Metro system, the board members don't give a damn about fare skippers and homeless riders loitering the buses, trains, and platforms.

@@HM-uf1lv Not true. I'm Black and gay and homeless and metro gave me a ticket for not having fare on my tap card as I thought I could "sneak the system" as you say.. I'm not gonna pay the fee as I can't afford it, but I now have low income tap card/LIFE program as a result; but it is not free. I'm not in the damn mood today.
