  • Santa Monica, May 21, 2024 - Santa Monica police officers conducted a cleanup operation at the Crescent Bay Gazebo on Tuesday, addressing a homeless encampment discovered during a routine patrol. Officers encountered several homeless individuals occupying the gazebo, which was cluttered with numerous belongings, including a stolen shopping cart.
During the investigation, officers arrested a man for an outstanding warrant and possession of drug paraphernalia. Additionally, they identified a woman listed as a missing person. The police contacted her family to inform them of her whereabouts and will be removing her from the missing persons list. Despite being found, the woman expressed a desire to remain on the streets and declined assistance or services offered by the officers, walking away after the encounter.
The police continued the cleanup of the encampment and subsequently transported the arrested man to jail. Officers gathered the man's belongings, including his bike, and will store them for him while he is in custody.

I have found a connection that it is difficult for people who don't care about themselves to care about anything else. The direct correlation has been demonstrated time and time again. A lot of these people need a lot of kindness and compassion, and it's really hard to be kind and compassionate to people who have no consideration for anyone else.
The city just came and basically took everything she owned. Including the bicycle, which in case you didn't realize it's probably her only mode of transportation. Most of it was garbage. But the few items that weren't? They took. Why would anybody who has hit on Hard Times give a f*** about anybody else? This is the Vicious Cycle and why nobody wins in the end.

@@idcyco3623yes it is hard to have compassion, but I have learned that it's much more than them just not caring about them selves, most are addicted to very toxic street drugs, so much so that they refuse to cooperate with any detox and rehab services, so there only care is where they get thier next fix from, and as for the bikes one looks like its being taken apart, some of them have stolen bike chop shops to fund thier drug habits, I know this sounds harsh, but far to many times I've seen disturbing incidences of drug use depravity and lawlessness from them that I can no longer ignore...

Yeah I'm not thanking them for taking that lady's bike. Most of that was garbage but the bike clearly wasn't. These people become more animalistic and disgustingly destructive the more you dehumanize them. And then every Rich f*** with a trust fund cries about how they're destroying the property value. This is a monster of your making.

This is Not. Police officers job to clean up these encampments. The Department of Sanitation is paid to provide sanitation for Santa Monica’s issues like this! Extremely poor Management Recourses use. Better yet, instead of crowding sidewalks, streets and parks, the homeless, addicted people should be given the job and training to clean up after themselves. In our town that is exactly what our policies are! You want good hot food, you cook it, clean clothes, you clean them, a bed, you earn it. Everyday you do work! The city is not your mommy!
