Peter, in the midst of the turmoil of the world and our own lives, you have provided a channel that brings us entertainment, knowledge, a diversion and maybe the best part, a grounding to a part of life that has not changed in years. wooden boats and the sea. All of these are things of value. I think the best is the the aspect of that which hasn't changed and by not changing can give some stability to us in this time in history. Thank you. All the best, Hal

And I am grateful for you sharing with me, some of your life. I want to be doing much of the same thing with boat life, UA-cam and my dogs, but alas, it is not now but maybe in the future. And this is one of my longest sentences I have written, ever. I think feeling down was Mother Earths call to wake up and make life for all better. Thanks again for allowing me and the rest of us in to peak at your life. Take care, stay safe and breath a bit the crisp, clean and cool air!

Those who maintain an attitude of gratitude cannot entertain great conceits . Peter, the tacking piece WAS riveting...those little asides and vignettes add colour and variety to the way you present the technical bits. I’m grateful for your self awareness and the way you don’t take yourself too seriously, while at the same time soldiering on with the projects.

@Peter - we all go through “the doldrums” of refurbishing a boat. The problem / project that never seems to finish, the one that no matter how hard you work at it you can’t seem to resolve, the lack of information / documentation on old boats. It can really get to you after while. I find that’s where people like us “buoy” each other. Your Vlog has done that for me and kept me going when I wanted to chuck it all. So when you find yourself “in the doldrums” of boat restoration, draw strength from others and let them re-inspire you as you inspire others. I’m grateful for you and your channel.

well today I am grateful for the turn of events last weekend, I made a trip up to Norfolk to assist a friend with working on his boat (its his first major haulout in 3 years due to Covid (normally hauls out every 2 years for maintenance)) this year he has 3 weeks on the hard doing all the hull repairs and replacing all of the rubbing rails with some Utile. so being that it was the first weekend of haulout, it was demolition work and prep work, the first day was spent removing the old rubbing strips and toe rails, this was done reasonable well until I got to removing the stern rubbing strip, while doing this I managed to lift the teak dressing plank under the rubbing strip, along with the rubbing strip (whoops, 'Houston we have a problem') fortunately (and this is why I am grateful) in doing this we revealed a section of rot in the teak plank that ran along the bottom of the rubbing strip (obviously water had got in and was being held there) so it was a blessing in disguise as the whole teak dressing plank (1/2" thick horizontal plank over 1 1/2" thick vertical planking) was going to have to be replaced anyway (much easier to replace a whole plank rather than cut a piece in on the curve of the transom). I am certain that soon the transom will be looking its normal glorious self with a new plank and a full re-varnish. we also sanded the whole hull and feathered in the edges where the paint had built up along the edges of the rubbing strips, not too bad for 2 days work.
keep up the good work Peter, you show us what is possible when working on a boat, and not to be too daunted by what appears at first sight to be a difficult job.

Peter, just a second DC shunt so you would have one shunt between the loads and the battery, and one between the charging sources and the battery. Then add a double pole double throw switch under the digital meter to select which shunt you want to watch. Best of both worlds without a second meter.

Peter, so much fun to watch you work up in the inlet. When refinishing, have you ever tried Petit 2018Q sealer? It used to be called Old Salem. Tung oil is good, but I've used this for 40 years to fill mahogany and other hardwoods before varnishing. It soaks, fills, defends agains rain and sun and makes a stable platform for the varnish you may want to apply. Usually 4 easy coats of the sealer and then only 3 or 4 of varnish need be added to make a beautiful, very long lasting, finish. Oh, and don't sand between coats of the sealer until you apply the last one. So glad we finally have spring!
