My First Landing in Bar Harbor Maine - Pilot VLOG 136

- Many people have been asking for this video. This is my first time landing in Bar Harbor, and what a view on the arrival! Brian and I met up with a friend of his in Raleigh before heading north, then we had a great time exploring Bar Harbor for a night. I apologize for the poor video quality on the cockpit view. This was due to the significant lighting difference between the cockpit and exterior, and I will be making every effort to correct this in the future. I hope you all enjoy!

Really enjoyed this. Nice flight...nice video. Enjoyed the local scenes. Thanks!
Glad to have you visit my home state! Cheers!
Sean, Wishing you and your family a safe passage through this hurricane.
3:28 That's 1 of 4 ea. AV-8B on that airport that day wich belong to VMA-223 "Bulldogs" statationed at Cherry Point, NC. Radio codesign "Stone". Nice flight Shaun!
I was a ranger at Acadia for a summer season a few years back, if you like day hiking its one of the best places on the east coast! All those mountains on the left on your final brought a smile to my face, I have been to the top of all of them on Mt. Desert island, stunning park and you definitely need a couple days minimum to experience it!
I live in Maine and have been a instructor since 1989 and yesterday was the first time I had ever flown into Bar Harbor. My son needed to build some flight time so up we went. It is a really beautiful area.
it sure is!
Since I am from Maine I was especially interested in this particular video, but what I did not expect was to see that you were in Raleigh, where I have lived for the last 25 years. That was unexpected , and really cool. I love all your videos and have been watching for several years now. Keep it up! I appreciate it.
Foreshortened forefinger @1:32!
Acadia is a great family trip--there's great climbing that's strenuous and rewarding but not technical. The tricky bits have rebar ladder rungs embedded in the granite. Great bike rides too.
Born and raised till I was almost 10 and never told about Acadia National Park. Finally visited it in 2016. Incredible park thanks to some very wealthy folks who decided to share the islands beauty with us poor folk. Cadillac Mountain is not to be missed along with the popovers at a eatery in the park on a pond...
Jordan Pond House, lobster bisque and fresh popovers every time i'm on the island.
Glad I watched this video. The Squadron that the Harrier is with is a squadron I was in back in the 1970's when we had the A-4 Super M's. It brought back a lot memories. Left Yuma, Az., went to Iwakuni, Jp., left there to Cherry Point, NC. Two major Trans Pac's in a year.
Another great video as usual! Shaun you rock!
The national park for sunset is cool to watch and the blueberry beers are good with the lobstah roll
In your shot of the harbor down town, the white hull 3 masted schooner at the pier behind you appears to be the VICTORY CHIMES. Identifiable by the three mast of equal height, which is unusual. Two interesting things about that ship - its on the Maine state quarter of the US state quarter series and it was once owned by Domino's Pizza who renamed her DOMINO EFFECT, she had several fluke accidents and they sold it, the new owners returned the name to VICTORY CHIMES and the accidents stopped...
Very interesting...thank you!
Great to see you again sean love you videos
Your in a hawker now?
It’s really cool to see someone fly into my state especially from someone who has always seen aviation as something I would like to pursue once I’m out of high school
IM just old tow trk. driver, so I really love the chance to ride along on something Id never get to see ,but for you !!! God Speed .
Stay safe out there man. I appreciate the job you do.
I think it's usually pronounced "Bah Hahbah", but I could be wrong :)
Oh and, "Give way to the Harrier" - probably good advice in general.
Agreed on both fronts! What were Harriers doing in Raleigh? Do they do training there or something?
lol, I usually say Bah Humbug. Oh, it's not Christmas yet! :-i
Just the tourists say it that way.
As a Mainah, you ah correct Sir! LOL
@@kevtheis The National Guard is based at RDU, and it is fairly common to see fighter jets in and out of there.
Bar Harbor is a beautiful airport. Fun flight too.
Awesome video ... thank you for showing us the town, too!
Nice video. I have a ham radio and pilot old Army buddy that lives in Belfast,Me. It's beautiful up there just too cold in the winter. Thanks for the ride.
Glad you had a great day.
Great video! Thanks for sharing!!!!
Thank you so much for the post
Awesome video. Thanks for letting us come along. Prayers for you and your neighbors during the hurricane. Take care
I love Bar Harbor flown in many times.Another great video.
Thank you!
Shaun thanks for posting!
Thank you for another great one Shaun. Stay safe during the hurricane.
Sweet video! That Brian is an absolute gas. It would be great if you flew with him more often.
Speaking of old stuff, when I was in the Navy, I met a guy and his girlfriend in a bar in Naples,Italy and he took me to his house outside of the city.
FIVE HUNDRED YEARS old. Crazy....
As always, a great flight and video.
A lot of heavy metal on the ramp. Another cool video. Thanks...
Great video. Left traffic pattern for Bah Hahbah. Many nice hiking trails in Acadia National Park.
Bar harbor IS a wonderful little town. Went there a few years ago and went on a fantastic whale watching boat.
"Runway perspective". Ha, ha. First time I've heard that used in all the aviation videos I watch, but I experienced it years ago in my early training (1966). My home airport at the time was OPF, and the runway we used most was 9R/27L, which was 8,000' long and, as I recall, about 150" wide. It looked like landing and taking off on the Turnpike. OPF was far too busy to use for touch and goes (busiest airport in the world at that time--you can look it up). So, we'd head up to HWO (North Perry, and about ½ mile from my house).
Perry was also a former AAF field (as were most in Florida) and it had a wagon wheel runway arrangement, unlike the parallel runways at OPF. There was a circular taxiway around the perimeter, connecting all four runways (9/27, 18/36, 15/33, 4/22), all about 3,500' long and 300+' wide. After all that 8000x150 asphalt, when I first glimpsed HWO's arrangement I thought, "how in the hell will I be able to land on that postage stamp?" And this was in a Cessna 150. You could land three times in a 150 on that much pavement.
So, all in all, that runway width advisory is a very useful item, particularly in an airplane that might easily use 2/3s of the tarmac.
Just visited that area with my wife in July. Beautiful area.
thanks great video as always
I have eaten at the Longhorn in Brier Creek many times. Agree that their steaks are really good for the price.
I missed it.Shaun you are the best Pilot, sat Hallo to Brian, you guys you are great.Thank you. From Germany
Harriers are frigging awesome!
I live in the Western mountains of Maine. I go to Bar Harbor every summer. Such a nice place to see.
Great video Shaun. You both have excellent crew coordination. Hope you and your family are making out ok as you're in Dorian's path.
Very very nice...Thank you...
Thanks for the view of Maine 👍
Cool seeing the Harrier. Fellow Hawker!
Shaun, I was a little disappointed when you didn't cut off the Harrier, leap from your Hawker and commandeer the Harrier. Would have made for some good entertainment to see you shoot some touch-n-gos. Oh well, consider it next time.
LOL...maybe next time
Love the videos. Hope Dorian passes without causing major problems in Florida!
Bah Hahbah is awesome, i live in Maine. Great little strip
Well done!
Small world. I live in the Bangor area that is about 45 minutes from the Trenton Airport that you going to fly into.
I’m sure your not here often but next time your at RDU would love to meet up. Looks like a fun place in Maine
Was just there! Great place!
I was there as part of our New England trip. Great place for vacation!
I was just there on the 28th! Beautiful area!
That fighter jet was really cool to see! Pretty area you ended up in!
Excitable67 pretty sure harriers aren’t actually fighter jets but they are certainly cool. I was able to touch one a few years ago when the USS Essex visited our country. I was in the right place at the right time and got aboard for a tour. They were Marines Harriers but much the same vegetable. I was blown away by how small they are in real life.
another gr8 vid Shaun! thnx much!
Great flight. Hope for the best with respect to Dorian. Stay safe guys.
Such a beautiful place. I used to hike there weekly in Acadia.
Ahhh, ya went ta Baaah Haaabaaaah! 👍😁
That used to be an annual ritual with my mom, dad, and younger brother. We'd make the 6 hour drive up there from central MA in the '84 Ramcharger towing the Prowler camper, and stay at Bar Harbor Scenic Campground. Low-bush blueberries everywhere. You have to do Acadia - swim in the 54° water (did it as a kid, but you'd have to pay me 6 figures to do it now, LOL - makes every part of your body HURT!!), and see the sunrise hit the very first part of the USA every morning there on the mountain (it's a mountain to us Northeasterners). Watch out for Puffins on the flight out! 😁
Great shots of that weird double cloud layer there - that was great! Thanks Shaun! I'll be looking for part II since I'm so far behind on videos this month. 👍
Dang it! You were finally in MY neighborhood. You were in the Brier Creek Shopping Center. Had I known I would have at least slid over to give you a fist bump or something. I saw the view over your shoulder and I was like, "That looks like..." I am disappointed in myself.
The last time I was standing on that ramp was because the Hurricane Hunters came to do their presentation in Raleigh.
Wow this is so cool to see you fly there! That’s been a family vacation destination for me since I was a little kid, lots of memories at that airport plane spotting with my dad. Check out the whale watching scene over there if you’re stuck for a few days
i was just in Bar Harbor. Nice place.
Nice flight Shaun. Did ya make it to Bah Habah? The Hawker acted like it wanted to keep flying but you stuck that landing and it looked nice. Looking forward to seeing more. Right now it looks like the brunt of the storm is gonna miss ya. We’ll see what happens when it starts moving again. Honker down and keep them videos coming.
yeah...I think we'll make it through ok.
There are some large aircraft on that ramp with a 5200x100 runway! Did you pay a visit north of the border this week Shaun?
Hey nice hat Shaun, I have one just like it! I havent seen others wearing them around my area but I'm looking as I know you must have other viewers in my area (pdx).
Brian cracks me up! He is teaching us a out you Shaun!
Hey I sure hope the storm coming passes you and you families by! Crossing my fingers for ya!
Beautiful area of Maine!! That cemetary is pretty young for the East coast, that's what I love about back East, when we visit my inlaw's in Frederick Md we walked into a cemetary and it had some headstones from the 1700's and I want to say lager 1600's, whether the 1600s was birth or death year I dont recall but compared to the West coast, they make our cemetarys in Oregon look like juveniles.
Going into bars on the bay in Baltimore established in 1700s just blew me away!
Thank you for another good video! That may have not been an energy drink the right seater was drinking, but I have been told by a physiologist that if a Naval Aviator is caught drinking an energy drink, they are grounded for 72 hours. Miliary did studies with aviators and unusual attitudes and energy drinks. Those that drank energy drinks recovered slower. Keep up the great videos!
I do not drink those C-4's but know someone who does. Am surprised he wasn't doing wind sprints in the back after.
Looking vey nice...
Cool trip, and those islands always make you wish you could switch to a GA bush plane and drop in on them..at least it did to me. Never been to Bar Harbor, although I've heard it's beautiful, and have been to Maine a few times. Got to get a Lobster roll, and a lobster or fish dinner while you're there though. Continued hopes you get missed by most of the storm coming by the homestead down there.
Thank you! The lobster roll was very good by the way...
@@CorporatePilotLife , now I'm hungry...;)
Video quality starting at 26:50 was incredible, must be the new camera
Ba Habah, nice airport, was there about 3 weeks ago. Can't get they-ah from Hee yah.
I wondered when you guys were going to catch up to the runway in use. Letting the standards slip because its VFR?
Bar Harbor is a gorgeous area. Check out Cadillac mountain if you can and also southwest harbor.
Love Brian! Great video and good luck getting through the Dorian🙏🏻
Those harriers look like VMFA 214 the fabled Black Sheep.
Is it possible for you to give us a cabin tour of the Hawker? It would be great to see the difference between a midsize jet like the Hawker to compare to the large, long range G4? A potential Tech Tuesday piece? Thanks once again for a great vlog and stay safe through Dorian.
I will definitely make that happen...thank you!
Great vlog as always. Something fishy going on in BH? There was a bunch of corporate jets on the tarmac.
Not sure what the reason was, but it was quite busy
Nice video of the downtown. Next time, go to Acadia, and head straight for the center of the park where you'll be treated to their absolutely world famous popover pastries. Well worth the trek!
Good to know. Thank you!
did you all see the plane flying past at beginning of video??? pretty cool
Making my first visit there in two weeks!
Drop by Bangor 47West Main Street and see Stephen King's house. Nice picture taking there.
Man I live in ear shot of that field lol big ups from bar harbor
Shaun,
The Harrier looks dangerous, would you fly one if given the opportunity?
I hope you are able to visit Mt. Desert Island one day, I always enjoyed that area.
Will the hurricane by a problem, I saw your previous video from your home.?
Take care,
Rik Spector
I would love to give the Harrier a go...sounds like a blast! The hurricane looks to be staying offshore, so I think we'll be ok. I hope all is good for you too!
Your right seat has the blue angles diamond leader slow draaawwwwwllll
Again, bloody excellent. On a more important note, batten down the hatches...
LOL...thank you!
„Give way to the harrier...” both of you looking up at the sky 😉 I guess you don’t hear that very often
I don't break planes "THAT MUCH". LOL. Great video.
Very cool. Thanks for sharing and don't forget to eat some Lobster up there LOL!!!
Go to 47 West Main Street in Bangor and you will be at Stephen King's house. Great place for some pictures.
It must suck having to cruise at .78 after flying the G4.
I just passed the airport this morning on my way back home.
Nice flight, 1Shaun how are those new DC headsets working out? Pretty country up there. Wouldn't mind a flight up there.
I'm loving the DC. The noise cancellation is great, but the bluetooth is what I really love
Don't worry, CPL. You're my favorite plane breaker.
LOL..thanks! I think...
Where!?..oh Baah Habbah!
Gotta have a shore dinner of boiled lobster and blueberry pie! Bah haba Maine!
Karma or coincidence? Today is my birthday. I was born in Raleigh many decades ago and left it 25+ years ago. I've flown out of RDU commercially dozens of times and a few times on charter. You took off South to North (mol) on the 'old' runway, not the 12000 foot runway built for AA when they intended to make RDU a hub. Next time you are in Raleigh and want a steak, call the Angus Barn. You flew right over it on your departure. The wooded area to the right (East) of the runway is Crabtree State Park, about 1600 acres of woodland. A nice place for Sunday afternoon hikes.
Bar Harbor is a great summer town in Maine that we've visited. Not only do you have Acadia NP but also Cadillac Mountain which is where the sun's rays first fall on the US, due to its easterly location and its height.
FYI when that church was founded, my family had already been in the 'colonies' for 160 years.
Great video. I've been watching since the beginning. When you were with the other company. I have a question? If you have time to answer. I'm in flight school right now. I want to get into fairy flying. But some people keep telling me not to get in the pilot filled at all. They say that I'll be taking advantage of no matter what. I was wanting to know if you had any advice?
There are people out there who will try to take advantage of less experienced pilots, but I am certainly glad I got into the field. Always do your research before jumping into anything, but ferry flying is a great way to go!
@@CorporatePilotLife thank you so much for your reply! It really means a lot. Hopefully one day we'll get the fly together. Keep up the good work and stay safe. Your biggest fan
A lot of military aircraft will be leaving bases on the Atlantic coast and flying inland to avoid Dorian.
How do you like that yoke Shaun? Looks like something from Batman’s plane. It just doesn’t look comfortable to handle.
Believe it or not, it's actually very comfortable to use. I'll always be partial to the Gulfstream, but this thing flies really nice.
I've heard lots of pilots say the Hawker yokes are the best and most comfortable. I know Netjets used to operate them with the leather grips on them, really nice.
To illustrate the point about 1790 being yesterday in Europe, tomorrow I am visiting a friend whose house was built in 1500.
That's awesome!
When did Buddy Hackett start hanging around with you?
With that close up left seat camera, Shaun needs to set up a sponsor deal with the sunglasses company. CPL branded shades with a discount for viewers. What do you say, Shaun?
I'm good with that!! Any companies out there interested?
What is the name of the drink? And oh ya an awesome vid.
C4 by Cellucor - great product
The different yoke styles on the Hawker vs the Gulfstream. Do you like one over the other?
Forgot to add, maybe that would be a good tech Tuesday subject.
That's actually going to be a tech video very soon, but I am fine with both. I'll always be a little partial to the Gulfstream though
Looking forward to seeing that. Have a good friend that flew Hawkers for Darden Restaurants. While sitting in the hanger I got a tour of the cockpit one afternoon.
You can’t beat Maine. If your ever back up that way, def take a spin over to Acadia and of course get some lobsters..
