It's about the death of the old self that comes when one experiences new life in Christ. The next line is "no second thought about going back." When Jesus comes into one's life, he transforms that person from the way they used to be. They no longer desire to go back to their old ways; they become like an amnesiac towards their dark past. The song is not being literal, of course--people do remember who they used to be, and that's a good thing, because it's a reminder of how far Christ has redeemed them. But in a certain sense, they are like an amnesiac; their old way of thinking is no more. The new has come.
For example, I used to be addicted to pornography. But when I truly began to believe in and experience God's grace, he transformed me. He did not merely save me from watching porn (although he did--I've been clean for more than a year), but he also changed my attitude towards it. My old way of thinking about porn--when I used to believe that the sort of stuff I was watching was the sort of stuff I actually wanted in my life--is gone. God healed me of those old twisted ways of thinking towards porn; he made me like an amnesiac towards them. And while porn is still a temptation, I no longer have a single doubt in my mind about whether fighting to be free was worth the cost. It was, and I have no second thought about going back.
It’s a metaphorical of speech for forgetting the past and your past life of sin. From the book of Isaiah, and other books where God says you will forget the shame of your youth and your unfaithfulness to me, and again he says, forget the past, see I’m doing a new thing says the spirit.
