- Recently, I've noticed a ton of new mountain bikers taking to the local trails. Whether you're visiting from out of town or just getting into mountain biking, the trail options in San Antonio are abundant. Navigating the trail systems in this city can even feel a bit overwhelming at first.
In today's adventure, I planned a route that will hopefully make your first ride in San Antonio go smoother.
I launched from the Fox Park Trailhead in Northwest San Antonio and rode some of my favorite trails along the Leon Creek Greenway as I made my way to O.P. Schnabel Park. From there, I made my way over to the downhill trails at Parkwood near Prue Road Trailhead.
Some of my favorite trails along this route include Birds of Prey, the Monkey Loop, and Mainline trail at Parkwood. Overall, this route is about nine miles in total and gives riders the opportunity to ride some of the funnest MTB trails along the Leon Creek Green way. The Strava link to this ride is below in the comments. I hope you enjoy!
As always feel free to stick around and subscribe so you don't miss out on the next adventure.
Thanks for watching and stay stoked!

I've been riding the trails that parallel the green way for years and never new they had names. Love that that you can go from just south of Mainland to Valero with almost no paved surface and still change up your route
@@mpeay3945 me too. I pulled the names off the Trailforks app for the video. Lots of good dirt out there. But it’s nice to have the pavement to fall back on if I get tired or overheated. 😎🤟
Ah man, I love the Monkey Loop Trail, I go back and forth on it at least ten times and it never gets old.
It’s a classic 🤟
Thanks man, just got a trail bike and LCG is my back yard.
@@ozo310sk8 you’re welcome bro. I hope you enjoy. There’s a ton of fun stuff out there. Stay stoked! 😎🤟
that was kick Butt! I wish I could still ride like that, I use to in the 70's but now, there's no way with my bad back. I'll just watch you😂 love the video Chenzo.
Thanks for watching Dave! I’m havin a blast out there on the trails, def need a relaxing camp sesh soon to balance it out. Thanks for the support! 🙌
@@ChenzosWorld having a blast, it sure shows, looking forward to the next one.
I bet your going a hell of a lot faster then what that camera looks like. Good stuff man. I am getting back into the sport.
@@tonycoffee7335 thanks man. the camera definitely shaves off a few mph lol. Have fun out there. Stay stoked! 😎🤟
I have never rode in. San Antonio I live around Austin
Man I miss those trails! Had my bike stolen last July. The last time I was out at Parkwood, it was wet out and my buddy and I wiped out on those ramps. Lol thanks for the video!
YW bro. Thanks for watching! I’m sorry to hear about your bike.
Hey Chenzo. Do you guys have group rides? I’m moving back to Kerrville in the next few months and I’m hoping to do more riding in SA on my days off. Only thing that I ever rode there was OP Schnabel and Flat Rock of course. I left in 2013 and it looks like there are a lot of new trails. That’s really awesome to see. 👊🏼🙏🏼
There’s definitely some group rides here. They’re usually posted in the local MTB Facebook group “mountain bikers of San Antonio” check out the FB page for red bird ranch as well. They frequently host group rides there
@@ChenzosWorld Thank you pal.
Great vid and love those trails good to get some miles in! Have you ever been to Purgatory in San Marcos ? If you haven’t it’s a legit trail , let me know if interested as I ride there often.
Hey thanks bro. I haven’t ridden there yet but might check it out soon. I’ll probably take you up on that. Shoot me a message on IG
Thanks for including the MONK3Y LOOP sign ( I put that on the trail)
The GoPro effect really flattened out the dip AND monkey loops! (Did you carve that tree? I won't tell anyone...) Really missing the old days.
It definitely did! I wish I could take credit for that masterpiece but I cannot lol… when you comin to town for a sesh?
@@ChenzosWorld We def need to compare schedules and find the time.
@@lifestartswhen1698 fa sho. Hit me up. I’m on vacation for until the 28th
I added the tree carving and signage (don't tell anyone) : )
@@shadpurcell74 strong work! ✊
Ridden those trails many times and it's always a good time. Need to hike up to the top of Parkwood more though, haven't done the mainline too often. Nice vid!
Thanks for watchin bro. Parkwood has changed a bit since the last time I was there. Always a lot of fun tho 🤟
The O.G. snake sticker is back😮, still have one in my prized collection in limited edition black and white. 🤙
Hey bro. Thanks for watching! I gta few new stickers for ya next time I’m in your neck of the woods 🙌
Finally found it
thanks Chenzo!!
You’re welcome bro. 😎🙌
Awesome video. Gonna hit this today for the first time. Is there a preferred riding direction CW or CCW?
Monkey loop is usually run clockwise. Everything else is bidirectional. Have fun out there! 😎🤟

If only I was 20 years younger.
@@blackphilipalvarez1305 my dad just bought his first mtb at 74. You got it.
where is that little ramp from 0:23 ? I was jsut at fox park trailhead yesterday.... on my gravel bike. But ive been there 2 other times on my pivot switchblade and i have never seen that.
Park wood tables.
North of OP on the steep hill side west of the creek bed. Look up parkwood the neighborhood and it’s behind that in the wooded area.
@@MuddySalsa Thats the beautiful thing about the greenway, Ive been all up in that area and never found that but im pretty sure I know where your talking about now. See if I can make it over there on my gravel bike tomorrow morning otherwise Ill have to drive there with the mtb on the weekend. Thanks.
@@MuddySalsa actually you can see it all over googlemaps streetview up in the the trails, I am astonished I never found it, I must have passed by 30 times. Thanks again.
@@louviere69 WEST! It’s west of the creek bed . Shoot my bad. Hopefully you see this before you go!!! 😬
But I know what ya mean. There’s tons of stuff out there.
