This guy is a LEGEND. Can't believe you've never heard Louis Armstrong!
Linda Daniel well JV is a very young man
I understand he’s young but they’re always using this one in movies. It was in Madagascar.
Bee Whistler wow didn't know that!, but then I'm old😂
Linda, we’re taking Jay on a walk down memory lane. How wonderful must it be to be Jay’s age and listen to a god.
Making sure you know Louis Armstrong decided he had to move away from New Orleans because he could not stand the statue of Robert E. Lee in the center of town, put there to say don't feel at home.
This is one of the most iconic songs (imo) of the last hundred years.
No that is Objectively True, it is iconic!
Probably the only competition is Happy Birthday and ABC.
His voice is like a cup of cocoa on a cold winter's day. It's so warm and soothing.
"Ain't Misbehavin". Louis Armstrong was the King of Dixieland Jazz!! Played a mean trumpet too.
Beautiful description, Domino! 💖💖💖👍
Perfect description, well done!!!
His voice is so great and that jazz like music from his trumpet. he's in a league of his own in my opinion louis armstrong and bing crosby were the greatest.
Dark Domino..... Its like curling up in ur duvet with fish n chips watching ur favourite show from your childhood.
My dear brother!!! Louis Armstrong is not old, he is not new, He transcend everything and anything for us in the Americas. Thank God for our African heritage / influence in Latin America!!
His voice is like a well aged whisky. Full of depth, feeling. The father of Jazz.
Jelly Roll Morton is the father of jazz, he was 15 years before Louis.
@@davisworth5114 Was he indeed? Well I suppose you would not be the only one to disagree with me.
"Well aged whiskey" you nailed it.
Absolutely
This song shows pure joy. His voice. His smile. His presence. Oh man it brings me to tears. Bless his heart.
Louis Armstrong had a huge impact on Jazz music, which in turn, had a huge impact on American popular music and culture. He is perhaps far more important than a lot of people realise.
As a trumpet player, Armstrong was an important person. Helped develop Jazz. Then, there's that voice, and his persona. One of the great stars. You are right, he is far more important than many realize.
Everyone loved him it seem's ..that smile and charming grace..just awesome.
Anyone who is as loves as him is important to the world. I say is, and not was because he is still loved, and important to the world.
Louis invented modern singing, and all singers since owe a huge debt to him they don't even know. But his influence on music -- not just jazz -- was even greater. He is by far the most influential American musician of all time, and maybe the most influential since Bach and Beethoven.
@@markhardwicke5345 Just a quick note to say I agree with your assessment. As I wrote (above) that Satchmo is the most important American musician who has ever lived. And I'd argue that he was definitely as influential is any of "the long hairs" (Bach, Beethoven, etc.)
Louis Armstrong was a jazz trumpeter, bandleader and singer known for ... During this time, Armstrong adopted a three-year-old boy named Clarence. ... In 1967, Armstrong recorded a new ballad, "What a Wonderful World.
I’m crying. Louis Armstrong is a god in the pantheon of gods.
This always makes me tear up. Idk why😃
kj robbi Because it’s a wonderful world, kj. 💖💖💖
Does the same to me
Makes me emotional too!
Wow! I was wondering if this affected other people like it does me. Started tearing up as soon as I hear him start singing. "What a wonderful human being!"
Smooth as silk! What a wonderful world for having Mr. Armstrong in it!
I am moved to tears to see that the new generations discover and appreciate the best music and the great interpreters.
Andrea R. Bordón me too, sometimes their reactions make me cry or laugh 😂
I know what you mean Andrea! 👍
Yes
AMEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Touching
Always brings tears to my eyes! Such a moving voice and that wasn't even his first talent!
Me too,🥲, loved this man
He’s one of the artists Stevie Wonder was paying tribute to in “Sir Duke.” Great trumpet player.
Referred to in the song by Stevie as Satchmo, after his childhood nickname. It was a shortening of ‘satchel mouth’ as Louis had such a wide smile. The godfather of Jazz and rightly revered.
Louie Armstrong had hope. Always hope.
Look up him singing, "Hello Dolly" with Barbara Streisand, from the movie with the same name.
Seconding that.
Used to sing that a lot. Now it’s an ear worm. Thanks hhhh.
That would be perfect. Two singing legends in one song! ❤️❤️
Yes, yes, yes!!!
Oh my yes!
This songs makes me want to hug Louis Armstrong and thank him for making the world much beautiful than it was before this song.
Mr Armstrong is a legend. Wonderful! He is from my home state. The airport in New Orleans is named after him.
The greatest trumpet player and what a beautiful song. Louis armstrong is the goat of music.
Louis Armstrong. "Satchmo" had an iconic voice and persona. He was/is a much loved musician.
Above that he was a world class jazz trumpeter from way back.
I swear Tom Waits stole half of his voice and i don't blame him.
Satchmo, short for satchel mouth
@@Allthingswitchy106 it suited him so well.
@One Voice
'Shows you've got great taste.
@One Voice
Jitterbug Boy from the Small Change album. If you don't hear Tom pulling Louis Armstrong from the Great Beyond into this song - -
then i don't know what to say.
ua-cam.com/video/zhK7ZylXTs0/v-deo.html
World class?! He was the teacher of the class!
our boy j - the way this song uplifted you is the way YOU uplift US. thank you for being you!
This song always brings a tear. Sometimes we forget the little things in life and how special our life and world is. ❤️❤️❤️
I fell in love with this song when I was about 10 or 11. And at 65 I still love it.
So emotional to listen to.
Armstrong was an icon. A true legend. His 1964 recording of “Hello, Dolly” (from the musical “Hello, Dolly”) was the song that knocked the Beatles out of their string of #1 songs-and made Armstrong the oldest artist in history to achieve a #1 hit. He was 63 at the time. His musicianship, skill and expertise are unmatched. His legacy will always be as one of the true greats in American music history.
Mr. Armstrong IS N ICON:):):)
YES!!!!
I'm from Los Angeles. One day when I was probably 13 years old I was buying some candy at our local market and while I was standing in line waiting for my turn I looked at the person who was a couple of people ahead of me purchasing something when I realized it was Satchmo. I was all Starstruck and couldn't believe that he was at our local market. I didn't say anything to him I just stood there with my jaw dropped in awe.
Armstrong was total class. When he made an appearance on any show, it upgraded the spirit of the presentation. Frankly, I was always glad to see him.
The greatest jazz trumpeter of all time.
If not for Louis Armstrong and others like him there would be no rock n roll, no R&B.
He was so loved that people even liked his gravel-voiced singing
❤️Louis Armstrong forever.
🎺♥️🎶👍 the great Louis Armstrong begin playing his trumpet when he was a little boy. Check out some of his music from the 30s and 40s and you will not be disappointed! This gentleman was respectfully refer to as Satchmo and is the father of American Jazz!
Great stuff from the 20s as well. Louis Armstrong's impact on music cannot be overstated.
Seeing j. hear Louis Armstrong was like seeing a blind person having the bandages removed after an operation.
The reason I am writing is I want everyone to know that Louis felt he had to move away from New Orleans because he could not stand the statue of Robert E. Lee in the center of town put there by people saying "don't feel at home".
Every time i watch a young person react to the classic's i think to myself....what a wonderful world
This song makes me feel so happy inside. It gives me hope that there is still beauty and good in the world
Thank you Jay for reacting to the great Louis armstrong. god bless you
And the "Oh yeah" at the end of the song was his signature sign off.
I don't think it gets any better than that. The song reaches the very inner part of my heart.
Louis!!! I can’t help to hear this song & smile just like him. Beautiful song. ❤️🎶🥰
OMG, how wonderful to see Mr. Armstrong again, singing his signature song!!
When I tell people that Louis is one of my favorite artists of all times, They're like "WHAT". This man is a legend and an icon.
This guy was an icon and boy could he play the trumpet. Loved him as a youngster. One of the few black artists of his time that outshone other performers. We used to try and mimic his voice as a kid but it hurt. Saw the movie High Society in which he performed with Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby and Grace Kelly, most knew his name as Satchmo.
Man had some hard times. It's touching to hear him sing it. Makes me ashamed when I whine about my life
Don't do that to yourself. It's okay to feel what you feel, comparing yourself to others isn't fair to your unique experience of life 😉
One of the most beatifull song in the music history.
You have to find his duets with Ella Fitzgerald. They are amazing.
Agree.
Summertime 😄😄😄
BEAUTIFUL
Oh, that brought tears to my eyes! This beautiful song and HIS VOICE! Satchmo is still a true symbol of American music all over the world. Thank you for this great choice and your reaction
God bless him. What a talented sweet man
😢So good! Especially in our trying times 💖
Absolutely Love Louis Armstrong !!💕💕💕
He was Such an Amazing Musician and Man !!!
He was a star for about 60 years. His voice grows on you and in the end you love it. His nickname was Satchmo (satchel mouth) .
Still is in my book
Yes! Its been on manny movies and tv. Including an old james bond movie. Classi Louis Sachmo Armstrong. Some in the business called him pops! He is known to be one of the best, if not the best trumpet players.😄❤✌
You're developing quite the range! Another great choice.
Louie was a wonderful person. Whenever I hear him sing this song I sing. I wish everyone on earth would sing this when they wake up every morning.
ONE OF THE BEST SONGS EVER!
He was one-of-a-kind! ❤❤
I cry every time I hear this song...we must love each other!
One of a kind song...i have heard many versions...this is still the greatest
We can only pray that we'll be there one day😢! Great homage to him (so many dont know who he is)!!! God Bless you for doing this😊!!! He was a trumpet player way back in the day AND he was a truly happy guy about life!!!
You are there if you want to be
"I have never heard a voice like that" And, you never will again. He was one of a kind! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️👍
I love this song but my favourite Louis Armstrong song is a Christmas song, “Zat you Santie Claus”
Deborah Chouinard That one’s the best! I love a creepy Christmas song, and the humor is the icing on the cake.
Deborah Chouinard: great song too! Heck, all his songs are wonderful!
YES!
One of the most recognized songs worldwide 🤜❤️🇨🇦
You can go back to the 1920’s and hear Louis play his trumpet during his Hey-day’s! He was a wonderful trumpet player, singer and human being!
When my daughter was 8 she said that she didn't like men's voices when they sang. So I played her this exact video and she loved the voice and song so much that she listened to it over and over every night till she fell asleep. Beautiful!
No one is like Louise Armstrong, very unique voice. Walt Disney loved his voice
❤️Louis ( pronounced Louie ) Armstrong was one of the most beloved entertainers of the 20th Century and beyond. Love by fans of every race, every musical genre and every age. A true treasure!
I remember seeing him on TV when I was a kid. His name is pronounced "Louie." And yes, this is his unique voice. And he did play the trumpet, too!
People often called him "Louie" and he didn't complain about it, but he really preferred "Louis". "Hello Dolly. This is Louis, Dolly."
Trivia here~Sandra Bullock said that she named her son Louis in honor OF HIM because she loved his music. 😉❤😎
Pronounced Looee, not Louis, he was a national treasure. He brought so much joy to people over his career. He was a great Jazz trumpeter and people just gravitated to his voice. He had an unusual voice, but there is so much passion and feeling in his wording and his smile would light up a whole room.
Beautiful song! The kind of song we need to listen to everyday before leaving our homes.
My favorite of Louis (Lou-ee) Armstrong many decades of hits! He’s a beloved legend forever! I love him💕!
This guy is a walking classic. There are many of them, so it was nice to know you knew it immediately.
He is a legend! You should hear his music on the trumpet. Before singing, he was a musician. In fact, they originally told Louis not to sing because of his unusual voice, but then Louis took a risk and the people loved him! There’s two documentaries on UA-cam to check out his history, but this song is my favorite and brings tears to my eyes because of how much emotion and beauty comes out of his voice and lyrics 😭💜
Louis Armstrong, aka Satchmo or Pops, is considered by most music historians as the inventor of modern music. His voice is unique and awesome, but it was his trumpet playing that changed everything. Love him!
Where does the nickname "Satchmo" come from?
@@debbowen2011 I thought about being snarky and saying, "There's this thing called Google," but I'll tell you anyway: Armstrong had a large mouth and was called "Satchel Mouth," but when he toured England the people misheard the nickname and started calling him Satchmo, and it stuck. 😁
I danced to this song at my wedding with my dad it’s so beautiful
Awesome song.. he was well known for this..☺
Wonderful song always Love him very classy
This song is so beautiful. It’s a mood changer for me if I’m feeling down. Just so uplifting ♥️
I started school the year this came out, and also lost my mum then. I love this too much.
Dale Baker Awww I’m so sorry for your loss, you never ever get over it no matter how much time goes by. I guess you just learn to live with it. Hopefully this beautiful song can bring you comfort & sweet memories even if it’s only for a little while 💫
missgmoma I can never thank you enough for your uplifting reply. Both you and Jovaughn have made my weekend very special.
Dale Baker your very welcome, it’s a good feeling to think I may have helped brighten your day. Enjoy your extended weekend & stay safe 🤗
missgmoma and Dale Baker Very heartwarming sentiments from both of you. A mother’s love is always missed, but always all around you 💜🕊 as is the beautiful warmth of Louis Armstrong’s voice & smile.
Javon , you are awesome to watch
"LEWIE" (SATCHMO) Armstrong, a MAJOR player in the history of the movement of music. This song became his signature song.......A beautiful tribute to the human life!!! We love you Louie.
What a legend . Rip Louis❤️🙏😔
Such a talent🎺🎤. Such a legend. This song (especially his version)can bring light to any dark day🌞🌎🌍🌏🌞
How is it possible that you've never heard this before? I thought everyone knew this. It's iconic.
He and his band were in the film High Society, which also featured Frank Sinatra and Bing Crosby singing alone and together, and each in duets with female costars. Highly recommended all around.
Love it and him and his trumpet playing is out of the world
One of the best performers of all!
You really need to google Louis Armstrong. He's a literal icon.
You can't really call Mr. Armstrong an Icon. This man was the MAN. No one can claim to ever come close to him in recognition within the music world. He was one of the most influential men who brought music to the modern day era. When people talk about Mr. Armstrong, they talk about one of the greatest artists in music history, and he was completely self taught and couldn't even read music.
He is better with a trumpet tho.
@@nickhynds9123 he had an iconic voice, but his trumpet playing caused an influential wave of new players to take up the trumpet. He revolutionized the sound of music with his moniker sounds. 😁😁😁
One of the best songs of all time!
The song "Hello Dolly" (1964), made Armstrong at 63, the oldest artist ever to reach #1 on the Hot 100 !
Imo one of the best moments in the whole movie. “Hello Louis” - When you become the lead of a scene in a Barbara movie because you’re so charismatic and talented.
Love Satchmo! What a treasure he was. So happy to have videos of all the greats❤️
You’ve now opened the door on all time iconic songs, might I recommend Etta James - At Last...
“Sachmo” Louis Armstrong, has many great songs! This being one of his greatest! I remember watching him playing trumpet and singing on tv when I was young!
WHAT A CLASSIC!!,,,SATCHMO!
1967 the year I was born This song this voice is so calming to me... Back when we thought we lived a wonderful world
The first time I heard it was in Good Morning, Vietnam.
One of my all time favorite songs.
What an amazing voice!!! Wow...made me smile!! ☮️
You like the way he sings, should hear him play that horn bruh.
I love his voice, it is so unique. Happy Sunday J.
Thank you Kathy Happy Sunday to you too
It’s brilliant, he was great one of a kind.
He was one-of-a-kind !!
"A Kiss To Build A Dream On" another classic of his that shows off his trumpet skills a little more.
YES!!
This is the amazingly iconic Louis 'Satchmo' Armstrong!
I've always LOVED this song
I fell in love with Louis Armstrong's music when I was 14!
Please check out Blueberry Hill and La Vie En Rose, those are his earlier tracks and feature his trumpet playing.
Louis Armstrong really didn't like singing that much and was surprised people liked it as he didn't think he was that good, he found singing embarrassing.
Louis Armstrong was first and foremost, a maestro trumpet player and that was when he was at his happiest!
He is quite old here. God rest his soul.
He was a wonderful man as well as a musician and wrote, composed and arranged, many different, new and creative musical arrangements and styles throughout his musical career.
When he first started, it was all about Swing and big bands sounds, he changed a lot of that. He wrote jazz and blues arrangements that people had hardly heard put together before.
He was hugely popular & famous and travelled all over the world, performing, to adoring cheering crowds.
He always supported young people who were interested in playing the trumpet. He mentored and gave a trumpet to a young British boy, who I believe became a famous trumpet player.
There is still black and white footage of those two songs I believe, La Vie En Rose & Blueberry Hill.
A Kiss to Build a Dream On is also wonderful. Then there is his duets with Ella Fitzgerald, Cheek to Cheek and Summertime.
Here he is sweating cause he used to get nervous singing, it stressed him out!
So glad you are discovering him😁
If you like his voice here, it is even better when he was younger and you have to hear him scat singing! That is when a jazz singer does singing with no words with their voice.
Like "bad a bad a baa" or whatever they make up, going up and down.
A few famous singers, mainly jazz ones, do scat singing.
I think What a Wonderful World was Sam Cooke's original song, off the top of my head.
Awwwww my mum loved this song of his so much. He sang cheek to cheek so very nice. I could just listen to his voice all day. Such happy memories of my late mum. Thanks Jay. Great reaction. Respect to you Jay. 😊😊💖💕💖
Louis Armstrong was incredible. There will never be another like him. A rare combination of musician, vocals and entertainer. I am thank we still have his recordings to enjoy. Thank you for posting this.
Oh my heart! This showing was the year I was born. Louis singing this is very powerful yes. Since I’ve known this song( decades) it has always brought to tears(okay, sometimes balling). I would love to see our world like the lyrics in this song. ✌🏻🤗
I don’t know how this makes us emotional. This is a beautiful masterpiece. He is literally looking on the good sides of life and forgetting the racism and rudeness. What a legend.💜
A truly wonderful song, he was great.
One of the greatest songs as well 🤜❤️🇨🇦
