Saturday I was able to see The Wild Robot at Fantastic Fest. Here is what I thought.
There's no trailer footage in this video because it's a Universal film and Universal has started to fraudulently claim anything they can. So I won't be using footage from Universal films until this stops.

Fun fact: The movie is directed by Chris Sanders, the director of Lilo and Stitch and the voice of Stitch. No wonder this movie is awesome
Ah that is the most fitting director I've ever heard for a project
Yeah, it's pretty good like The Prince of Egypt or Disney from the 90s.
how can you forget about how to train your dragon, and the croods
I'm glad this is Dreamworks apology to Megamind 2
H
I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I KNEW IT! I *knew* it would be a masterpiece just from the animation alone.
Looks like DreamWorks has once again GOATED themselves!👏👏👏
That's how they always were. They either make Puss in Boots 2 or Shark Tale.
Prince of Egypt GOAT animated film!
They're a very inconsistent studio when it comes to quality. Whenever they miss, it's a miss. But whenever they hit, they REALLY freaking hit.
@@liamphibia Just got out with tears in my eyes after seeing it.
@@dinocollins720 Yeah I just watched Prince of Egypt with my wife, it is amazing!
As an intern who worked on the cameras in this film, this is so incredible to hear from you!! Thank you so much for your kind words and even if you hated the film, I still would’ve loved this video! And just some bts for the cinematography in this film: Spielberg was definitely one of our inspirations camera-wise, with the shot of Roz falling down the cliff has her headlights shine through the forrest being coined by Sanders as the “Spielberg shot” during our feedback sessions for that sequence! And Nolan too as many of our flying sequences were directly inspired by Dunkirk! We even watched Dunkirk at the theater on DW Campus haha! Anyways, thanks again for your thoughtful critique!! Loved how much you connected with this and how well you described the themes we were going for!! Even as someone who worked on it, I can’t believe the movie is real haha!!
Thank you so much for making such a wonderpul piece of art! You guys have made a 10/10 masterpiece that is easily 1 of your best movies and it might personally become my favorite film of the year. Gorgeous and creative animation, well-written and likeable characters, amazing soundtrack, etc. Not a single bad thing I can say about it. Easily the best animated film of the year, and I don't think anything will beat it. I'm rooting for you guys to win Best Animated Feature at The Oscars and to hopefully get a Best Picture nomination. Congratulations and thank you so much for your hard work!
12:03 I can answer this- it’s better addressed in the book the movie is adapted from, but the “Truce” only happens within the hut during hibernation. Whenever an animal goes outside the hut, they are fair game. The movie Disney-fied this a bit towards the end with “you know I’ll be chasing you again tomorrow- just kidding!” But the resolution is mainly the same- which is why they show you the next winter. But when spring arrives, the animals will continue with the circle of life.
Inside Out 2, Transformers One, The Wild Robot ❤❤ amazing trinity :)
Honestly animated movies are the best cinema these days
@@DopeyDylI don’t you you got Wish and Elemental.
@rayanvij3457 that's true actually 💀 but also now we get movies like madame Web and borderlands
@@rayanvij3457elemental was quite good. Wish sucked.
At my showing, at the beginning when the crab gets eaten by a bird, a little girl in the back of my theater cried 😬
Damn that means Inside Out 2 and Wild Robot will both be in your top 3 for the end of the year. Unless something else comes, but still.
Sean also said he thoroughly enjoyed Transformers One as well. It's a good time to be an animation fan. Hopefully Moana 2 and Wallace and Gromit continue the trend
@@julianortiz5712 always a great time to be an animation enthusiast and connoisseur
Terrifier 3 just to balance the genre🤣
When I saw the trailer I was a little skeptical but man this blew my mind
The animation was incredible, I saw it with my mom
It was so good 9.5/10
Can't wait for this film to reduce me to a mess
Funny theater story:
When I went to see Wild Robot tonight, the trailers were pretty typical.
Paddington 3
Moana 2
Wicked...
And then a very odd movie trailer started playing. "Directed by Luc Besson..." I didn't recognize anything going on, but the trailer did seem a bit advanced for the family audience.
The trailer?.....Luc Besson's "Dogman..." Yes, the R rated movie. Guessing theater screwed up and accidentally put THAT Dogman trailer instead of the Dreamworks Dogman trailer.
I loved this movie. Instant animated classic
My husband and I always appreciate your view as a father and getting to hear what your family thought too! Thanks for another great review
wait until you read the book. The author is also the illustrator and I was so glad that they were inspired by the book's visuals when building the film's palette.
Among my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year. Hope it’s as good as everyone’s saying 👍 as far as I go the year has been pretty solid for animation, and this’ll just be another strong point to that
The lighting went hard this time 🔥
Oh yeah, I watched this today here in the UK. Went to a 12 oclock showing and wow it was a masterpiece! Transformers One and Inside Out 2 said hello to another incredible animated piece of cinema. Also just to understand: I saw only a segment of the trailer as a preview before my Monday 14th October showing of Transformers One. So.. the surprises came in waves and so they did! And also your review is amazing. Says a lot when theres been little to no negative reviews, as far as I have seen. There's also the fact I saw by myself but even not sharing an experience with family or a friend, and just the crowd that did attend anyways it was amazing.
It’s funny. I felt the opposite way about the trailers from you. I thought the first teaser without any dialogue looked fantastic - the second trailer with voice acting dashed my hopes a bit. But at the end of the day it was a truly beautiful and moving film.
So excited to this this this Friday
I’ll be house sitting for a week when this releases so it’ll be a bit longer wait but I’m really looking forward to it.
This sounds a great watch with family
I’m SOOOO excited to see this movie this weekend
My daughter loves the book. We are going opening night and are so excited to see the adaptation. Thanks for this review!
The Wild Robot is one of the most emotional movies I've ever scene. DreamWorks has once again absolutely cooked.
The animation is incredibly vibrant, gorgeous and unique.
The characters are all charming and very well developed especially Pedro Pascals finks character.
The score is simply phenomenal. It enhances the emotion of each scene it's used in.
It's SO emotional from start to finish. I well up 5, 6 times throughout.
It explores many themes and the story is so beautiful and profound as well as being powerful, emotional and inspiring.
I really appreciate how it showed us the humans and how they have ruined the earth but it doesn't focus on that all.
I didn't find the first 20 mins as engaging as the rest but that's very minor. I still enjoyed it and the rest of the movie blew me away. Can't wait to watch it again.
The first trailer was pretty unimpressive. I really like the last trailer. It looked charming/cute. So, if I’m excited.
Good to hear it is that good. Better than Inside Out 2? That is a challenging task. Hope it is that for me too.
Dream work animations are decent. Not on level with early Pixar, but I love the Shrek and How To Train Your Dragon sets of movies.
Am looking forward to see it next week
Loved the movie. Shocked by how good it was. Spoilers- My only gripes were why were the other robots so unnecessarily aggressive and I didn’t like where Rozz ended up at the end. It cheapened her character growth and wasn’t what she set out to do. It made it into a sad ending for me where nothing changes when it could’ve been a more hopeful one. But maybe it’s more realistic that way.
I can’t wait to see this one!
The trailers did look like a cliche kids movie but now I’m intrigued
I went in just wanting to watch something on the big screen. Came out with it being my favorite movie of the year.
It's a 10/10. 1 of Dreamworks best movies and might become my favorite film of the year. Gorgeous and creative animation, well-written and likeable characters, amazing soundtrack, etc. Not a single bad thing I can say about it. Easily the best animated film of the year, and I don't think anything will beat it. It needs to win Best Animated Feature at The Oscars
Just saw this movie earlier today. My one complaint is that I couldn’t see what was going on because my eyes were too watery
It’s a movie made with love and care . Something that’s missing from most films nowadays
The Wild Robot (2024) is among my top 5 favorite movies from DreamWorks Animation and it is the best animated movie of 2024.
Fink was the best part of the film. Pedro FREAKIN' NAILED IT!
I am so excited to watch this and it visually looks stunning!
Ugh my heart ❤❤❤
I just watched the movie. I had a family sitting next to me with a 6 year old girl and not only she was absolutely loving it, but she cried a lot, like, she understood what was going on and the sadness when she was explaining to her father why she was crying... I literally cried more because of that than because of the movie so yeah I am a mess right now
Hey Sean, if you’ve seen any, what’s your favorite dog movie?
Great Review Sean I’m really excited to see it hopefully this weekend 😊
just left the movies with my Pop. cried and laughed.. thank you!
Dang Sean liked this one! Top 5 of the year?!?!?!
This'll win the Oscar this year 👏
Unfortunately, inside out 2 made hightest gross billion so Pixar win the Oscar 2025 but nope
Just saw it. Incredible. Possibly the best film of the year imo.
I can't wait to watch this movie!
Sean, out of curiousity, what held this film back from being a 10/10? Or maybe better put, what does a film have to do to deserve a 10/10 in your eyes?
Just seen this with my lil bro and we loved it. He said he was almost about to cry lol. A must see for sure, highly reccomend this. Also watch the new transformers if u havent yet that one is also really good.
Top 5 best animated movie of all time for me. I was blown away like my god it’s amazing
Fantastic review! I do however have one question for you. Is there an A+ and 10/10 entertainment scale?
love Chris Sanders
Just came back from the movie. I'm a 33 year old single guy without kids or family, it's a masterpiece. The plot, themes, animation and cast.. everything is on point! If you're a single guy (or girl) just like me who just wants to enjoy the movie I'd recommend you to buy midnight slot tickets as like always, kids will be kids and they may disturb your moments if you really want to delve and feel the movie entirely.
I thought Think was Nathan Lane not Pedro Paschal! Soo good
Saw it tonight. So good. Top 10 of the year for me.🇨🇦
Did you cry while watching this movie?
this was one of my most anticipated movies of the fall glad to hear it's really good
Hey Sean, wondering what you thought about the new Salem's Lot trailer.
i cant wait to watch it!
It sounds so great!
Wait, was one of your friends 3c films?!
This movie did the impossible and made my cold dead heart feel something
this is awesome
Best dreamworks movie
sounds great but i think i'll need tissues
After watching both and with this movie probably becoming a contender, who do you think would take the Oscar for best animation? Inside Out 2 or The Wild Robot?
Don’t count out other animated movies like Lord of The Rings just yet. Good chance for some international animated films too hopefully like Chicken For Linda, which should really get the Oscar in all seriousness.
@@Yoshi-h4b Gosh, you're right, my mistake, I completely forgot 🤦🏼
@@Yoshi-h4b I agree we won’t know til the years good and done and see what they nominate. Everyone swore up and down Spider Verse would win, then The Boy and The Heron came in with that absolutely deserved W. Haven’t seen Chicken yet (have wanted to), but Sirocco I think could be another great contender, even if it was technically made last year
@@NinthShinigami exactly, and people can hate on it all they want but The Boy and The Heron was the better film. I’ve been wanting to watch Siroco myself but haven’t found the time yet. Hopefully the Oscar picks actually worthy contenders.
@@Yoshi-h4b Completely agree, both were spectacular but the Boy and the Heron resonated a lot more with me
The fact that I know his daughter Chloe chandler she’s at my school and in my class🎉
But did you vote for her for class historian today?!?!?
@@SeanChandlerTalksAbout yes
Now I have 16 subs
Awesome!
Is this your favorite Dreamworks film now?
On Twitter, he said it’s in his top five.
The top 5 for me in no particular order is
Prince of Egypt
Wild Robot
How to Train Your Dragon
Kung Fu Panda
Puss in Boots 2
Dude, you're overreacting... This movie is totally appropriate for a 6 year old...
films and stories moves people differently. For him it was a great film because it suited him. He explained that himself. You probably have a film that moves you. But doesn't effect him. That's why we have different genre.
It should be ok for your six year old to watch the movie. The movie is like a new Bambi.
Hey Sean are you Alisted?
I am not. Don't really know who that is.
What is that?
im sooo excited for this im seeing it on Thursday
👍💞🎥💞🦊Dana F.-macík🐻
cant wait
1st One of my most anticipated movies for the rest of the year
This looks cool but unfortunately it's gonna kill transformers one
The book is better
Why did they have to shuffle around the story beats
Now the character progression and motivation is so weak
Children's stories is not high art, just follow the story structure
But I guess the screen writer needs to earn his pay
Shame it went from good to just OK
🤓🤓🤓
This is the case with every fairytale story turned movie or even bigger book movies such as Harry Potter, the maze runner, or ready player one. The reality is things sometimes need to be different to create a flowing movie rather than following a book that may have had way more details or read time. For what it’s worth, the movie was amazing and I absolutely loved it even compared to its book counterpart. You can focus on the negatives of book vs movie or enjoy this for what it is, and I think they nailed it!
@@Kpoping727official Piss Off
Have fun in your Mom's Basement
@@7REY1017I agree That is true for a Novel where there is more material for the movie to cover But not for this Children's book cause everything in the book is in the movie just arranged differently
Don't get me wrong this is the best Animated Movie of the Year. It is really good. Too bad it could have been Perfect
The Book short Read. Give it a go than Tell me I'm Wrong
I am unbelievably excited for this movie, I'm disappointed you couldn't see heretic though I'm interested to see your thoughts on that
Just saw this and it was fantastic, beautifully animated with great characters and a really good story. Between this, Puss in Boots the Last Wish, and the Bad Buys Dreamworks is having a great decade thus far
