    I am torn between this and the new 14-24mm zoom from Sigma. I really like prime lenses, but the wide angle is one area where I wouldn’t mind a little versatility.. but I really like the 1.4 and don’t know if I need wider. Tough choices I have a 35mm 1.4 and I love it, but looking for something a little bit wider

    Hi Pav. I love your videos mate keep up the fantastic work. Would you say this is sharper than a Sony 24mm f1.4 gm as I am trying to decide out of these 2. But if the sigma is sharper, I don't mind getting the sigma. Price is not a problem for me as I can get the sigma for £630 and the Sony 24mm gm for £725. Please can you let me know. Thank you.

      I don't think I can honestly say that one is sharper than the other. With these new lenses it will also hugely depend on what and how you shoot, how you view and use your photos etc.
      Both lenses are very good in my opinion

    This lens seems awesome ! I'm wondering if you get some vignetting on the edges while using some filters like variable nd filter + Cpl filter wide open between f1,4 to f,2.8 ?
    Very nice review tho !

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Рік тому

      I believe that you will get some vignetting when you use thicker filters or when you stack them up. Not unusual

    Hi Pav would you recommend this over the sigma 14 to 24mm for travelling.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Рік тому +1

      maybe. It's a different lens. It is smaller and lighter. It is a prime with wider aperture and standard front screw on filter thread .... 14-24 is a zoom, more versatile but heavy and you need special rear filters for it

    • @nicholasnoelramoutar
      @nicholasnoelramoutar Рік тому

      Thank you for your response, I was wondering if I really need the 14mm or not. Low aperture isn't a priority because I would be shooting landscape type photography.

  • @Sothros
    @Sothros Рік тому +2

    got the 24mm. its sharp, but could be a tad sharper. ( for example: the sharpness of the sigma art 105 f2.8 macro and the sony 35 1.8 is better )
    but i prefer the look on the 24mm compared to the 20mm. even thou it doesnt sound much of a difference.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  Рік тому

      I can't imagine Sigma 24mm being any sharper than it really is. Sony 35mm is the least sharp one from all those you have mentioned but still very sharp

    You said "There is no other f/1.4 20mm lens available for Sony...that's not true. This is Sigma 2nd 20mm Art lens. The first one has a Sony mount and is 1.4. I use the first one for UA-cam videos. Other than that, great video!

      @@PavSZ OK so you need to correct the incorrect information and confirm with Sigma the info about specifications and details like this. I understand you are under a NDA and have to release the review in a hurry but wrong is wrong. If I had believed you that the lens was not fully weather sealed, I'd have moved on and not looked twice at it again. It's an Art lens, they are ALWAYS weather sealed to a high standard.

      It’s really hard to mess up a new lens these days. No lens is perfect, but most lenses are just good enough to not hate.

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  2 роки тому +4

      I have made lots and I mean lots of money with the two cheapest lenses that I could have for nearly 12 years. I don't believe in dissing a lens just because it is not perfect. I always highlight what I have issues with but I strongly believe that if that's what you have and that's all you can afford, you can make it work well

    • @PavSZ
      @PavSZ  2 роки тому +2

      @@Donbros I can't agree with that. Good photographer or film maker can make a cheap and inferior lens work well - a lot of people have very small budgets, what's the difference to those people that G Master is better than chinese $300 lens - if they only have $300, they will make that lens work for them
