I'm a guy who's been riding Harleys for 15 years and I really like these. I like the shaft drive and liquid cooling. This engine does sound really good with aftermarket pipes too. Bike like this I'm not as concerned with horsepower as I am torque. I don't care if it's particularly fast but I do care if it's bogged down when I add the weight of a passenger or gear to it.

Some Harleys models may be an overpriced status symbol, but not the Sportster. Every manufacturer has been trying to copy the Sportster format for years, and if the Honda is the right cruiser for you, then that is what choice is about.
This 61 year old semi pro motocross racer for many years.had so many motorcycles, I cannot remember them all. While Harley is doubling their prices and claiming that they are going to be a high-end company the truth is they are now gouging their long established customers. But I must say that of all the motorcycles I have had race bikes, dirt, bikes, street bikes. I am so impressed with Hondathat I feel if it’s not a Honda I don’t want it
if it had the aftermarket support that sportsters have then it would be a great alternative. as of now there are no big bore kits or anything to really up the power. you can get SOME accessories for it but nowhere near as many as with a HD. there are a lot things that make the honda better but it's only in that limited sense.
The air cleaner cover is so big your knee will never touch the tank , far from it, yet the other side you can .. it's a weird feeling and something to think about. Btw I have a 650 cruiser and I can hug the tank on that and love being able to.
Honestly the Vulcan 900 should get the spotlight for classic, middle-weight, classic V-Twin cruiser segment Really wished Honda would have stepped up their game with the Shadow, like LED headlight, ABS (not sure if there are models that have it), cruise control and some other QoL stuff
Would you like to add, the Aero is otherwise identical besides looks and handlebars, so if you prefer the more classic look, the Aero is also a frontrunner.
Sportster doesn’t exist- anymore-they want you to buy high end. Bend over, Harley Dude & grab your ankles-Harley has a Sportster replacement that’s $20k!
Something about the rear wheel location looks odd. A couple of inches closer to the rest of the bike would look a lot better. Not so much apparent on the exhaust side, unless you replace the stock system with a pair of shorties. Just not what I'm used to seeing.
I wish Honda would drop the cosmetic cooling fins, but then I’ve been saying that since the 80s. 😄 Just embrace the fact that they’re liquid cooled and make the cylinders smooth on the outside. Fake fins hit me the same way as fake wood paneling on a 70s station wagon. 🥺
And the guy that has the shadow will be enjoying riding on a nice hot day, while the Harley guy is waiting for his to get fixed and wondering if he can afford to pay for the coming gouge.
Curious about the ergonomics. I have a 31" inseam & years ago I had a Suzuki S40/650. It was the most uncomfortable bike I ever rode. Like sitting in a car without a backrest. Wondering if this might feel the same or if I can stretch my legs more. Anyone with a 31" inseam ride this bike?
I've had chain drive 750's and currently have a shaft drive model and there is virtually no performance difference. I'm 6'2" 200 lbs and both top out around 95-100 mph in completely stock form(gps).
Looks good . They nailed the styling. Too bad Honda doesn't have a version with a larger displacement . I'd like to know what kind of valve adjustment is required. A big plus for me with Sportsters is they have maintenance free hydraulic self- adjusting valves. I also like Harley's belt drive much better. Anyway, there are still lots of used traditional Sportsters around at attractive prices . This bike is like an Elvis impersonator, good but I'll go with the genuine article.
40 HP.. 8,000$ gross. i got a 1 year old indian scout for just over that base price and it makes over double the horsepower. 40 hp and 500lbs... its a baby pig
Thease bikes will run forever with oil changes and gas if u won't to ride and ride and ride with no problems buy a Honda if the 750 is to small buy the 1100 if they still make it u won't be let down and will get your money back when u sale its a No-brainer !! It's the smoothest riding bike I've ever been on a 2009 750 shadow!!
Damn it. Europe does not get any of these....... Kawasaki, Honda,Suzuki - all of them make classic cruiser motorcycles in US. But not in EU. If we want to get a normal classic cruiser, the only way to go is to get a Harley with a +50% price increase cause of imports.

Sportster is probably one of the nicest looking none Ducati cruiser motorcycle, the Shadow looks more like a Harely fat boy copy,,, reliable as heck for sure..
@@jaywinters2483 I agree with chain drive so I can tinker and get the perfect gear ratio for my riding style. I also had an 03 and dropped a couple teeth on the rear sprocket and it made it so much nicer. My 09 is shaft and it has higher gears in it already. The shaft driven 750's feel smoother and more refined but there was something special about the 03 model.

I would assume it has to do with the engine tune and design. It is designed to be durable/reliable and have as much or more torque than HP. Your Virago has 42hp with 25 ft lb torque. The phantom has 44hp and 47 ft lb of torque. Torque is twice as much and it will feel noticeable.
This motorcycle is for people who can’t afford anything better. It’s a good beginner bike, but it’s not a Harley or a Triumph or an Indian. It’s not powerful or responsive at all. Sounds okay. No deep rumble that cruiser riders love. For sure it is very reliable, but then again it doesn’t have anything on it that is complex or that can go wrong.
Just bought a small bike for around town since i cant take long trips just yet like i use too, i considered this bike but the lack of power and high weight and still expensive deterred me, ended it picking up a rebel 500, cheaper, lighter, and doesnt loook like a copy cat (no vtwin) i think its time for honda to redesign this buke or dump It a vulcan 900 Is a much better option
Why should they redesign it to be more like the Rebel when the Rebel is already existing? Also Shadows have a big following and theyre reliable. I think they are perfect the way they are.
Power is very disappointing for a 750 v-twin. The Royal Enfield 650 twins at a couple thousand less has 47hp. This should be a 60+hp bike. The price is decent, but not THAT good. You can find a Kawasaki Z900 for less and it’s a LOT more bike…

Actually, Indian made the first production V-Twin motorcycle in 1905. Four long years later in 1909 Harley Davidson finally followed Indian's footsteps and started production of their own V-Twin engine. So the real question is, "Why is Harley Davidson an Indian wannabe?

I'm not saying several of the Japanese bikes didn't copy Harley. The cruisers often did, the sportbikes obviously didn't. I was just saying that even Harley has been known to copy other bikes from time to time themselves, like when Harley copied Indian's V-Twin. And having V-Twins are one of the main things Harley is known for. Also the V-Rod was brought out because the air-cooled push-rod Harleys were being outperformed by the water cooled Japanese bikes with overhead cams operated by timing chains. All of the motorcycle manufacturers copy each other from time to time. (My Honda VTX is highly influenced by Indian.... it's sort of an Indian wannabe.) It's still a great bike though!
I would love to have few more HONDA logos. All those who are like AMERICAN and bla bla can go ₹@ themselves. I would really want a tough and reliable base for my builds.
A heavy bike and only one front disc, WHY? Everyone knows 2 dics give better braking and choosing to use less front braking power for aesthetic is just for the simple minded. I am speaking from experience, I have a sportsbike and bought a cruiser, that weighed 100 lbs more, within the first week a truck pulled into my path. Now my sportsbike (CBR600) would have had no problem, but the cruiser just slowed a bit. I sold it the next day. When safety is sacrificed for "the looks" , well count me out.

My concern also. I had a 900 vulcan, gearing sucked. I have been trying to get a handle on the "wide Ratio" honda aspect. what say you

Been riding Hondas all my life, I’m about to buy one of these. I do wish they’d put more tech in them like they are doing on the Rebel line.

The only thing to not like about it is the lack of aftermarket parts, at least for the modern Shadow.
