Federal Signal 500-SHTT Storm Siren Test - Topeka, KS

- Here's my video of the last 500 in Topeka, the one on the VA hospital. They used to have 6 of these until they were slowly replaced over the past 20 years. The VA kept this siren up and bought a new radio for it when the new system went in, and thus it's still operational. It's one of the louder sirens I've heard, from over 1000 feet away it picked at my ears pretty well and the mic didn't really like it either. The rotator belts are stretched, thus no rotation. You can also hear hints of the Modulator that "replaced" it in the background.

The rotator SHTT itself
Is it still standing?
yes
Memerino1041 is this the last remaining old siren in Topeka?
@@brandonbutchart5576 yep and it would've been taken down but the VA hospital decided to claim it and now they take care of it. The EMA just activates it now, nothing else.
VA hospital to Topeka:parry this you f***ing casual
That wind up was straight up angelic.
just for anyone who doesn't know, this 500 spins once again! it was repaired by goddard enterprises on 1/27/23.
Any proofs about that?
The first time when I went to Topeka KS I saw the siren its rotor was sick it was sad I had nothing to do so I left by any chance until 2 min it happened I heard it from VA hospital it made a beautiful sound I was happy for 3 weeks I had to go back to Ireland it was fun when I stayed I had a great time well that's all I could say anyways bye-
i play music for the VA in my school's band class. This year i finally spotted the siren, it was cool
Yeah the modulators are cool, but nothing beats the sound and distance of these classic sirens. I still glance at the thunderbolt in Topeka city and wish I could see it operate once more.
This and the 3t22 are very cool sirens
Testing 1 2. Topeka Kansas, Topeka Kansas. Nice video of a rare siren.
I saw this siren as well and I freaked out when I saw it! I also found another 500 and I watched it test
Trains Of KansasINACTIVE No you didn’t.

My favorite FS siren!
If you look at the bright side, at least the horn was facing mostly towards you during the duration of the test.
bird box: can't see
a quiet place: can't speak
hush: can't hear
this FS 500 SHTT: can't rotate
It's replaced now. RIP.
It’s been “replaced” ever since their new system went in. This siren is still on the roof of the hospital and still goes off weekly.
I'll tag you in the post on Insta, August said he went there and it wasnt on the roof.
Wisconsin Sirens lol i live in topeka, i live about a block from it and I assure you, i hear this thing every monday. Topeka still has a few thunderbolts standing as well, and a few STL 10s which are inactive.
@@Cemoman17 i moved away from topeka, i lived there since the beginning, now im in jackson county
hows topeka holdin up?
At least it's still here
These are fantastic sirens other then the poor design where the entire siren needs to be taken apart to fix the rotor. I believe it was you who said they're as loud as a Thunderbolt?
Yep, it was right about as loud as a Thunderbolt if not maybe a tad more.
A thunderbolt in a SHTT housing!
😆
I did a little snooping on google maps and, I came up with a theory.. Since Topeka had a total of four 500s, and replaced all but the one on the VA hospital, could that mean that the three in abilene KS could have been purchased from topekas old system? If you go to abilene on maps and go back in time, they actually had all sentrys instead of where the 500ATs are in 2008. (right before Topeka had replaced it's old system.) Just a thought but there is a very good chance it could be true. EDIT, sorry I thought there were only four 500s that had been in Topeka's system. Didn't look at your description before posting!
Wait what? I thought all Abilene had was the 7T on the courthouse and only one 10/12 500

Yeah, Dylan made his videos either unlisted or private for some reason... I really miss those videos...
*2T22 intensifies*
is the model 7 on that random school still working?
No, this and I believe a 2T22 at a beach nearby are the only two from the old system that are still active.
@@Stormsetter4 aw rip
@@Stormsetter4 beach? you mean lake sherwood? i think i remember seeing it there, my aunt lives there
Where is the Model 7 located?
