    the last catch, the picture was poor so you missed the part where - he didn't just throw it back in before he went over the line - he actually threw it in the air giving enough time for his team mate to catch it (you see him running into vision at the end). If he had thrown it back into play the catch would not have counted. If you want to start watching cricket then I would suggest that you start with 20/20 games.

    Hi, I hope you see this. A cricket ball is made of wood, nylon, it is all handmade, it’s sewed with a really hard material. A cricket ball is harder than a baseball and is about 0.1149 kg in weight.
    Also saying, the fastest a cricket ball has traveled is 162 km/h. Make it miles if needed.

  • @SimonJM
    @SimonJM 3 місяці тому +3

    Yes, I am very aware of how hard cricket balls are, and how fast that can travel. And yes, it can hurt taking (and/or failing) to take a catch. As a VERY general thing, the catches further away from the bat (out toward the boundary) tend not to hurt so much as you have more time/ability to move your hands and arms to act as a damper, those closer to the bat you usually only have the time to stick your hand in the way! The wicket keeper wears gloves, but the constant taking of the ball from a fast bowler takes a toll.

    Man, I love your content! Cricket can be different depending on the format of the matches. InT20 the teams are restricted to 20 overs of 6 balls each over, which makes for a very fast paced game with teams trying to score the maximum runs as fast as possible. On the other hand, a Test Match is played over four DAYS which results in exceptionally tactical play which some find boring. Me? I love the high level international Test Matches which result in great tactical subtlety between batsman and bowler. I explained this to my wife once and she actually fell in love with the game. Good luck in the new House! 🤩🤩🤩

    Hi JT, A cricket ball consists of a cork core wound with string then a leather cover stitched on. Manufacture is regulated by cricket law The cricket ball is heavier than a baseball. A standard cricket ball weighs between 5.5 and 5.75 ounces (155.9 and 163 grams), while a standard baseball weighs in at 5.25 ounces (142 and 149 grams). A cricket ball is also smaller (22.4 -22.9 cm circumference) than a baseball (22.9 - 23.5 cm circumference), which means cricketers are catching a smaller and heavier ball, without the use of gloves-and they still make incredible diving catches. The only fielder that is allowed leg protection(leg guards) is the wicket keeper, unless, with the Umpire's permission, they are very close fielding. If they can do it without the use of gloves, why can't baseballers? The seam is important because it acts as a rudder, guiding the ball in the direction that the bowler wants it to swing or spin.The speed of the ball varies with the type of bowler. A fast bowler can achieve speeds of more than one hundred miles per hour Here's a fun fact the first ever international cricket game was between the US and Canada in 1844. The match was played at the grounds of the Saint George's Cricket Club in New York.

    It's of a very similar construction to a baseball. cork core, twine wrap, covered in leather. The difference is that cricket balls are laquered (which is why it looks like a pool ball). The laquer makes them last a lot longer as only a single ball is used over a long period in cricket instead of being switched out all the time in baseball

  • @RichardGadsden
    @RichardGadsden 2 місяці тому

    The ball is similar to a baseball. It's a quarter-ounce heavier and very slightly smaller, but both are a cork centre covered with leather and stitched together. The pattern of the stitching is different, which means they move differently in the air (and some cricket balls are red rather than white). At the beginning of a game, it's slightly harder than a baseball; but they use the same ball for a long time and by the time they change it, the old ball is noticeably softer.
    They are bowled (ie pitched) slightly slower than a baseball on average (both are in the 80s mph), though the fastest bowlers in cricket would all have a serious heater in baseball terms - the record is over 100mph. But the bat has more leverage than a baseball bat (it's longer) and a hard-hit cricket ball is travelling faster off the bat, so close catches require astonishing reflexes, as the ball is often travelling at 150mph or more.

    A cricket ball is a fair bit smaller and harder than a baseball. The last catch wasn't well shown by the camera work but the guy who initially caught it realised that he was going over the boundary and threw it to his team mate who completed the catch. You can see the ball in the team mate's hand as he runs over to congratulate the first guy. If he just threw it on the ground, it would not have been a catch (although it would have prevented a six - a good effort in itself).

    When they dive to catch the ball the ball cannot touch the ground even if it's in the catchers hand that's why the always hold the ball upright.

    When I used to play cricket the only thing which scared me was practising indoors in a sports hall, with cricket nets and India rubber cricket balls, if the ball hit the edge of the bat and came straight back at you instead of going into the nets you'd be diving out the way, you really didn't want to be hit by one of those balls, they really hurt and left a horrible bruise!

    That number two catch the player caught it and knew even if he caught it and crossed that bit of rope on the ground the player would get a six, so he threw it in the air, fell over the boundary rope, got up, dived back over onto the field and caught it again.

    JT, a cricket ball is cork covered in laquered leather. It is basically as hard as the bat and you do not want to get hit by one flying in your direction. I remember playing cricket in school and I bowled an over (set of 6 bowls) which bounced badly and hit the batsman in the face. I was a pretty good fast bowler and the poor lads face was a mess.

      Best way for a fielder to avoid being hit by the ball is to catch it. If done properly, it doesn’t hurt at all.

    The cricket ball is harder than a baseball ball.
    What is harder a cricket ball or a baseball?
    One main difference, however, is that the ball in cricket is harder and heavier in weight. The ball in cricket must weigh between 5.5 and 5.75 ounces (156 and 163 g).

Cricked balls are harder and denser. Please dont give a cricket ball to your dog as the red dye comes off, and it looks like your cute husky has savages someone. It took about 3 weeks yo come off

    So being a Brit living in America I can tell you a cricket ball and a baseball feel very similar, there both cork centers with wrappings, the baseball is maybe slightly softer but there's hardly anything in them, the better baseballs are covered in leather as are cricket balls, a baseball is very slightly bigger than a cricket ball, I think that covers most of it

    JP, you need to watch IPL (Indian Premier League), which is the 20/20 format of the game. It's really geared to fast action at the highest level. PSL (Pakistan Super league) is similar, but doesn't attract so many viewers.
    Also, don't forget, last year was the inaugural year of Major League Cricket in the US - mainly played by immigrants at the moment, but with a good scattering of native US players as the sport is getting more and more popular in the US. The IPL shows there's a LOT of money to be made in Cricket, after all!!
