I'm Sicilian, brother.
That doesn't stop police from forcing their way in and the same result would have happened as this video. Once the homeowner flashed his gun, his fate was sealed. Even if he got off a lethal shot, the other cops would not hesitate to take him out. In short, the homeowner's gun killed its owner. This is the reality that the 2A crowd refuse to understand. Eventually, an LEO will see you as a threat and take you out. It's inevitable.
Don't rack a gun and barge out your front door. It's not a good tactic #1 but also you just gave cops justification to shoot you even if you're on your own property. He could've asked who it was or simply called the police while holding a gun on the front door.
I feel so sad for the wife, the children and their extended families who have to deal with this unnecessary tragedy. Many errors were made by the Farmington PD and the homeowner. The officers went to the wrong address on a domestic call. I cannot fathom how all three officers failed to confirm the address before knocking on the door. I have been in this very same situation. After midnight, no porch light on, I am awakened by someone knocking on my door and headlights shining through my bedroom window. I live in a rural area on a road the dead ends. I get out of bed, slip on my pajama bottoms and grab my pistol. As I walk out of my bedroom there in more urgent knocking on my front door. I don’t remember hearing the officer announce who he was. But, I can see through the small beveled glass on my door and it appears to be a police officer. I ask him who he is and he identifies himself. I lay my pistol on a nearby stand and cautiously open the door. I don’t know why this husband and father walked out his front door with his handgun at the ready. Unfortunately, it cost him his life. Again, this was so difficult for me to watch.
Messing up the address is understandable to me, the whole american thing of being armed, your wife being armed, coming to your door armed gun raised, American police having trigger fingers and shooting first, because everyone is armed to the teeth in American so it is kill or be killed, all that is kind of beyond my comprehension
The problem is that they did confirm the address with dispatch these officers; but it was the wrong address dispatch had so these guys wouldn’t have known.

They hadn't called them; the patrol lights were off; it isnt at all clear or obvious that the cop's announcement that he was a cop was actually heard by the homeowner. @@code-dredd You missed number 5, which is that it's not legal to brandish/point a firearm at someone who knocked on your door. Pointing a firearm at someone is almost always considered an act of deadly force (even if no shots), and it's not reasonable to use deadly force against someone for knocking until they've been identified as a serious threat. Responsible gun ownership means you identify your target and ensure it is a threat deserving of a deadly response before raising your gun. I haven’t seen anyone else mention that for some reason. Though this is a tragic event to have happened... there's something to learn here for homeowners. Don't EVER open up your front door, especially at night, until you are 100% certain the knocking isn't a trap. There's plenty of ways to see who is at your door without even standing at it to peak. Buy door-ringer cams or other outdoor cameras to see who is outside (they aren't even that expensive). This homeowner made a grave mistake just by walking out of his front door, unaware of it being cops, or possibly a criminal who has the jump on him. homeowner's actions were criminal to begin with. You cannot come outside of your home and point a firearm at people who are knocking (and in the process of walking away). This is just like the case of that 16 year old kid who got shot in Kansas City MO the other day by an old man who came out the door blasting for no reason because the kid accidentally came to the wrong address. WTF America!!?? It isn't the wild wild west anymore. Too many of the wrong people are armed, and innocent people/kids are dying for it.
Just like the police and military. If you own a gun it is your responsibility to know what the situation is at all times. I agree, the tired and groggy argument don’t hold water. It wasn’t like the police were beating down his door. He had time to gather himself and gain some situational awareness.
@@outlawedmedia4336 Your brain takes a few minutes of wakefulness to start producing the necessary neurotransmitters and signaling molecules to have full mental capacity. An adrenaline dump from being shocked awake is going to sharpen your physical senses somewhat but you're not going to be thinking with full coherence in that situation
You can’t just open the front door like that and point a gun at whoever it is at it. They weren’t even trying to break in or anything. If it’s a civilian at the door just ringing the bell for whatever reason now the homeowner is going to jail. This isn’t an excuse for the officers having the wrong address but you can’t just answer the door with your gun pointed at people like that.
Rule number one when someone is knocking at your door at night; do not open that door with a gun in your hand. What should you do instead? If you feel you must, ARM YOURSELF, but stay in a safe place, such as your bedroom, and don't stand in a window, or doorway. CALL THE POLICE and tell them what's going on. If it's the police knocking, the dispatcher will tell you "those are police officers", then you put your gun down and go answer the door. That will avoid this kind of tragedy from happening. The fact that the wife came out shooting as well tells me that these people had no idea HOW to control the power they held in their hands, or what the use of deadly force entails. Now the family has to live with the loss of their father because he screwed up, the officers have to live with this tragic mistake for the rest of their lives, and there will be no way for any of these people to gain any PEACE.
If the man was asleep, it's likely he woke up from the sound of the men banging on the door, and possibly didn't hear them announce they were police. He looked outside and saw two men in dark clothing, talking to each other in the dead of night on his lawn. Coming outside with a gun is not irrational. The cops should have had their cruiser lights on, so even if the guy didn't hear them say they were cops, he could SEE they were cops AND they OBVIOUSLY should have made sure they were at the right address. Cops definitely are the most in the wrong until more details come out.
@@vibranteye4369 Going to the front door armed, peeking outside and aiming the gun is NOT a rational way to respond to a threat of robbers. That is insane. If they were robbers the same outcome could have transpired. It was foolish to do what he did. No, I'm not defending the cops going to the wrong house. But this could have been avoided by simply not answering the door with a gun drawn or just hunkering down inside and waiting. No reason to peek outside while aiming your pistol, that is not a smart move even if it was robbers.
@@boofdaclown7866 To clarify, the homeowner likely thought it was trespassers, which could include robbers but it is not limited to robbers. And trespassers, and robbers, are less likely to engage if they see you are armed. Honestly, most people who aren't law enforcement are less likely to engage if you have a gun. That's conflict 101. While it's debatable if CONFRONTATION was better than HIDING, CONFRONTATION was still a rational choice against what you would think to be trespassers on your property in the dead of night. (again arguable if it's the best action but still a rational one) Do you still find my argument wrong, or can we agree with that?
This is just a tragedy on all levels. If I put myself in that situation, I would try to make verbal contact with whomever is knocking on my door that late at night. The last thing I would do is open my front door especially not knowing who it is that is knocking. If no one answers then I call cops. Mistakes were made on both sides but the cops made the first mistake that lead to this man's tragic death.
Yes, police were at the wrong address. Surely you're not blaming police for the homeowner's actions? I'm thinking we've all [ mostly ] had someone knock on our door only to learn they're at the wrong house, no reason to point a gun at them.
@@flyoverkid55 Yes that's why I stated that that's where the homeowner's mistake was to open the door without knowing who was knocking on his door at that time at night. The cop's mistake was that they went to the wrong address. Just making a point that dispatch needs to make sure that they are repeating the correct address to the officers multiple times to make sure to avoid these mistakes in the future.

@@elo0o207No one was murdered. You do not open the door with your weapon drawn. He could have looked out the window. He could have concealed his weapon. Or, you know, smartest of all would be not to open the door if you genuinely think there's danger present. He did everything wrong.
Police don't flash the lights unless an actual EMERGENCY has been reported. The description above vaguely states "domestic violence" but if there was no ongoing assault then they don't respond as an emergency. Homeowner here was stupid. Period.
This was a tragedy and I’ll give them that. However, in a home defense situation, there is NO reason why you should open the front door with a weapon. If you are afraid for your life, you hunker down with your firearm and call the police. Should someone force entry into your home, you deal with it then. But by opening the door and forcing contact between whoever is outside and yourself you are no longer acting in defense.
@Boodrow Wilson and same thing with that 9 year old tearing up my bushes in my backyard, shouldn't have been there in the first place, so I was justified in going out and pointing a gun at him.
My daughter when she was a toddler dialed a whole bunch of numbers on my phone with one combo being the emergency number we all know. Well about twenty minutes later I had a deputy knocking on my door. I was completely unaware of his presence so I grabbed my self protection and hid it behind the door while I opened it. My wife in tow behind me curious of who was at our house this late was handed the protection and sent back to the bedroom. I told the officer it must have been a mistake and ask him if he would like to come inside and investigate. He took my word and that was the end of it.. Never pull a firearm up and out the door for a person you don't know. Sorry for their loss..
It doesn't matter that they announced who they were, on three occasions. The knocking officer used his inside voice to do so. Not to mention the lack of energy he used to knock on the door. Insulated, sheet-rocked walls, while not able to suppress noise completely, do in fact suppress a lot of noise. They were lucky she heard any of their annunciations. And it's all on camera. Dudes were talking quiet the whole time (that last time may be considered legit, but i digress). Maybe have the lights on? you are responding to a DV call after all. Maybe use your big boy voice? Or, idk, check to make sure you're at the right house to begin with...
I have had neighbors who were hotheads and I would nt be surprised if they stupidly charged out the front door with a firearm in the dead of night against an unknown number of people because, like the road ragers, they are going to show "them" who is boss!
The wife is extremely lucky they missed when they opened fire on her for some reason, and the kids are very lucky they weren’t on the other side of those walls.
Is that a doorbell camera I see? If so, why wouldn’t they check the footage/live view before opening the door? Then, opening the door and pointing a gun out… If he believed it was an intruder, why would he open the door? Isn’t it best to stay inside, armed/ready, meanwhile you have wifey call the cops? I definitely use these videos as life lessons for myself and those around me. I remind myself to think clearly, at all times. It’s not easy, but these videos are great reminders.

@@javiersantana848 They do, and it bothers me quite a bit. In my opinion, you should be able to defend yourself against the police when they threaten your life. But then, every arrest would be a shootout... I get their fear. But, I also know it wasn't like that 20 years ago, with an overall much higher crime rate, murder rate, and a very similar drug situation to todays. Cops didn't even wear vests back then but they had far less officer involved shootings as a whole. It was always bad in the cities, but most cops everywhere else could go their entire career without ever drawing their gun, let alone using it... I was around in the 80's and 90's... I respect cops now, and I don't break laws anymore, so I pretty much never have to worry about them like I did when I was young. I'm mostly conservative with a libertarian lean and I 100% support the cops (as in, I'm not a defund the police idiot who thinks they're all ras1st), but I'm also not too blind to see that law enforcement in general, all of them, needs a heavy-handed system of reform. I just don't think it's actually possible, and I would never support measures on a federal level anyway. I'm all for local districts handling reform in their own way though. Preferably with better officer selection and training... So, I dunno. Just don't do dumb shit like the guy in this video, and all the other excellent examples of how not to get shot by police we have on YT these days. Cops have a lot of issues they need to work out, but I think they are mostly decent people, just like the rest of the population, just trying to do their job and make it home. If it were up to me, I'd make all cops get at least a blue belt in bjj before they could ever go on patrol. Black belt for any other active position. That alone would weed out 90% of the cops that aren't fit for duty and can't handle themselves without being too afraid...
Opening your door and blindly firing is so stupid. People knocking on your door late at night could be anyone. Could be a neighbor trying to wake you because a fire is spreading. @@glukerASMR Yes, it was a terrible mistake by the homeowner, a minor mistake by the police (wrong house politely knocked upon due to DV request). Experienced gun owners know better. The police should be exonerated. There is an ongoing outside investigation and there were other facts involved with the homeowner which may have made him react like he did. This might be made public.
@frbe0101 I wouldn't lose any sleep over dead Americans, innocent or not. They're one of the most violent nations on the planet. Fuck em.
The problem is that they did confirm the address with dispatch these officers; but it was the wrong address dispatch had so these guys wouldn’t have known.
@@frbe0101yeah that's not what America is like, the only places where people fear for their life every day is big, blue cities like Chicago or New York. Oh but don't worry, the citizens aren't even allowed to own guns to defend themselves without a written note from the government saying they accept your argument of self defense. Often times they don't and you'll end up in jail for defending yourself. That's your European progress for you, criminals still have guns but the people those criminals target don't get to have any.
I grew up in Tennessee, every single family member (barring the young ones of course) I've ever known has owned a gun. Many of my friends, coworkers and acquaintances own guns too, in my 26 years, none of them have ever fired at or been fired at by anyone, police or criminal alike.
It is not a common occurrence, the problem comes with we don't get to see the millions of positive interactions that happen between police and citizens every single day. We only get to see the high profile shootings, because that's what gets views.
If everything in your day is normal, except on your way home you see a naked man rubbing his junk on store windows, you're not gonna tell people about what you had for breakfast. It is all about perception, and media outlets would make America look like mad max thunderdome if it got them a few thousand extra views

WTF America!!?? It isn't the wild wild west anymore. Too many of the wrong people are armed, and innocent people/kids are dying for it.

@@Hexapon1 Here's the problem in your statement: You're right that what the homeowner owner did was not smart -at least in hindsight.
However:
1. he was within his right to be armed
2. he was in his property;
3. he was within his right to come out armed in his property (presumably to defend his property);
4. at least from the vid, I don't think the man was aware that the people outside were cops -and had no reason to think they were.
They hadn't called them; the patrol lights were off; it isnt at all clear or obvious that the cop's announcement that he was a cop was actually heard by the homeowner. In fact, even from the description, it's clear even the wife did _not_ know there were cops outside -which is why she shot at them and then stopped when she realized they were cops. As far as they were concerned, the people outside were a threat.
Moreover, don't put yourself at a tactical disadvantage by charging outside to an unknown situation where whoever is there has the drop on you. I haven’t seen anyone else mention that for some reason. It would have recorded the three of them knocking, announcing themselves as police, calmly waiting around in uniform, having the cruiser on the street, etc. He acted under false assumptions, not using available precautions, and ignorantly confronting a perceived threat. If you wake up feeling threatened for your life and grab a loaded hang gun you're no longer groggy. You're WIDE awake and alert. So this comment doesn't hold water in my opinion.
Why the f$#@ would you answer your door packing heat??!! How do you think the cops are going to react dumba$$??!!
Exactly. Police weren't forcing entry, there was no need to open the door and point a firearm at anyone.

What happened to "who is it" before opening a door, we don't do that anymore? This really could have been avoided.
There was also a ring doorbell (or similar). I wonder why they didn't check the camera...
@@vibranteye4369 0:45
A little hyperbolic to claim they were "banging on the door" dont you think?
Just making a point that dispatch needs to make sure that they are repeating the correct address to the officers multiple times to make sure to avoid these mistakes in the future.

this is why you should check your cameras, or at least peak out a window, instead of opening a door with a gun in hand and then raising it

Police don't flash the lights unless an actual EMERGENCY has been reported. The description above vaguely states "domestic violence" but if there was no ongoing assault then they don't respond as an emergency. Homeowner here was stupid. Period.

@@timlykins8193 I know right, it's pretty rough these days, what with all the woke liberals complaining that racist bigotry is not acceptable anymore.

Its called the castle doctrine. Pretty sure that MOSTLY applies to within the walls of your house. The dude went out looking for trouble and found it.
to say there is NO situation where that would make sense is just ignorant. Cops shouldn't have been there in the first place
It doesn't matter that they announced who they were, on three occasions. The knocking officer used his inside voice to do so. Not to mention the lack of energy he used to knock on the door. I get their fear. But, I also know it wasn't like that 20 years ago, with an overall much higher crime rate, murder rate, and a very similar drug situation to todays. Cops didn't even wear vests back then but they had far less officer involved shootings as a whole.
