Sweetness & Light was one of the first proper electronic tracks I acquired in my teens, before we really had any club scene to speak of. Within a couple of years we were running a pirate radio station, and organizing bush doofs.
Brilliant documentary and interview - magical times - thanks so much for sharing. I had a recording of Rush on cassette, recording late at night froma public radio station in Hobart. I didn't get the track listing (easy to miss), and never knew it was you guys. Great how Paul describes the sweetspot in the evolution of the technology - the rawness and precarity of working with hardware, as well as the new levels of control opening up with MIDI and digital editing. What an amazing journey - thankyou, thankyou, thankyou
That first release was so hard to get in the UK - I finally managed to blag one form Darren at POP promotions which was owned by Justin Robertson's manager.
Congratulations. This is such a great insight. I love all of your songs and was so gobsmacked when after I had met you(Andy) and realised who you were!!
Boxcar - Universal Hymn did well overseas. Everybody Dance '94 was one of my favourite albums for years. I was lucky to get a gig as work experience kid for Volition a few weeks before those famous Aria awards. In Sony Studios Boxcar were talking about the Arias and joked about who they should start a fight with, I piped up and said "Tina Arena!!", everyone went so quiet and pale when looking at me. Walking away from the studio I asked why and was told Tina was very important at Sony 😂 Anyways Volition inspired many others including a few kids from Canberra.
Is there anywhere to get all your catalog? I’ve long lost all my cds
