Samsung went Beast mode. Now the Samsung Ecosystem is very good for someone who don't want to buy into Apple's.
Yeah, not as good as Apples unfortunately , but much improved and very good with some advantages.
Yes, this is really aimed at Samsung fans as anyone that has used a MB Pro 16 M2 would def buy the Mac. Twice the battery life on the Mac, full performance when on battery, better thermals, as good a display, better IO on the Mac, higher configs, max of 16GB RAM on a creators laptop is the end of the Samsung for any pro-creator. Better speakers on the Mac. Better trackpad, and no number pad. For the neutral Windows users I think that there are many better choices at these prices than the Ultra, though few as thin and light (not necessarily a positive in this market sector). Easy pass until the prices drop 40% or more.
@@makasete30 Not as good is debatable. Samsung makes phones, watches, laptops, TVs, Washing machines, vacuum bots etc. All work really well now. And they are mostly on sale and resale value is also okaish everywhere. Repair charges are also low compared to Apple's who are like Vampires.
@@andyH_England I have a MBP 14 M1 pro but I would gladly trade the 3-4 hours battery for some gaming on the side with windows. Price drop is a huge factor though. And they do sell 32 Gig version in the US. For windows I have an older Predator Helios which is much cheaper and upgradable but you will end up paying the doctor if you carry that tank around everywhere.
@@akarshJD Well, the "not as good" is just like "macbook killer"....
If you need a laptop that runs forever then at this moment you either carry an ARM based machine or .... there is no other option.
I am not an Apple user, but I still wish my Linux had that trackpad what's on my wife's Macbook. (or even the one I used 10 years ago... and refuses to work with Linux :( ) .... I am a trackball user for work and would switch to the Apple trackpad if it worked on my system as the gestures are genius and it is a very smooth experience.
As for the screen... I use 3 external screens so I don't care that much for a laptop screen. I look at text when working and my gaming monitor is an ultrawide on PC and a 4K TV on PS5... so if it cranks out 100Hz and I see the text I am looking at I am OK with it... But again .... my wife's Macbook Air has a very nice display.
The drop to 30 fps on battery was probably Nvidia GeForce Experience Battery Boost 2.0. It’s basically a 30fps frame limiter that kicks in when you unplug.
This is a very important point that 99% of UA-cam laptop reviewers absolutely miss. How can you be a laptop-focused tech reviewer and not know this ? This Nvidia Battery Boost is like 10 years old at this point and they still never remember this.
is there a way to disable that feature or get better performanace?
@@pranavkolambkar yes you can disable it in GeForce Experience
@@pranavkolambkar Yes, via Nvidia Geforce Experience, in settings there is a section mentioning battery settings or whatever, you can choose a higher FPS limit (default is 30) or disabled it completely (not recommended, will kill your battery, but you should not play games on battery anyway). This setting does not affect anything when you are plugged in
but didnt he get 41fps on cyberpunk?
The 15 seconds glance over the Galaxy Book Ultra additional features or "Extras", could have been more thoroughly dived into. This is what sets the galaxy book apart from virtually any windows machine and a perfect combo for any Galaxy user looking to get a powerful machine and still experience a seamless integration between Windows and mobile. No mention of second screen , no mention of universal notes and clipboard. But then you same creators come and push that same narrative from 2015 that only Apple has an ecosystem, but are actively ignoring the efforts of other companies.
totally agree
Exactly my thoughts
And Samsung Pass!
I just bought one of these because I need it for work purposes and MacOS doesn't support my professional apps. I bought it because it's powerful, doesn't look like a toy, & has ostensibly competitive build quality to a Macbook. The ecosystem is neat, but it's not a selling feature to "steal" from a Macbook. I'm not throwing out my iPad, iPhone, etc. to get into the Samsung ecosystem. He touched on points that someone actually cross shopping these devices might need to know about. Frankly, I'm most disappointed by the screen wobble, to tell you the truth.
@@ggill1313I have a few questions. How is the battery life and fan noise? And is the keyboard good? I would like to use this for video editing and gaming.
That Samsung laptop certainly has that premium feel to it. What a great device for productivity and leisure.

Good news everyone, Samsung included an extra PCEI slot, my Book 3 Ultra now has 2tb of storage 💪
Samsung impressed me with this one..
@@David-Zitathe level of improvement from the Samsung Book 2 Pro to the Samsung Book 3 Ultra is literally insane.
Imagine if we could do that with the RAM too.
It's kind of insane how much gaming can actually be done in that form factor
indeed, i have asus zenbook. i was surprised it can run latest triple games like resident 4 remake at stable 30 fps with bluetooth xbox controller. i can say that is insane! especially my laptop size is paper thin. i play other triple aaa games with better fps and graphic
edit: i played re 4 remake demo, and my laptop is thinner than the Samsung laptop showed in the video
Now imagine what kind of gaming can be done on just an iPad. It should be able to play let’s say Gta5 at 60fps if it ran natively. And thermals shouldn’t be too bad too.
@@fahmimaulana7255 mind sharing what GPU u got in your machine there?
@@fahmimaulana7255 how's the battery n heating when you play games??
the components of that thing are going to get cooked and the lifespan is not going to be great if you plan on gaming on that thing
As someone who travels all the time, the portability combined with power hits just right
But it’s performance just worse on battery power unless your just talking browsing the internet.
@@Mbro-dq2do It's not worse with performance, I have the 4050, I turned off balance mode in the battery settings and set it to performance. I was still playing games on ultra settings fairly decent on battery, however you will likely get around 4ish hours doing that, if that, I haven't really tried it because I only game with it plugged in, but this device is no slouch!
@@Mbro-dq2do Its still far more powerful than a Macbook
Except that you dont have power when being mobile…
I miss your consistent video updates man. Thanks for the great content, hope all is well!
Working on it!
Just seen that the LG Gram Style 16" has appeared on the US website. May not be as powerful as the Galaxy Book but it looks awesome and has reasonable specs. Can't wait for you to review it Tom.
It has the looks that Dell should have brought us on the 2023 XPS 15 and 17!!
The performance here was very impressive with that form factor. Top expensive for my needs but exciting for the future.
I own the 4050 model, it's a great windows laptop! I really do hate those Comparisions with Apple, but honestly this is the closest laptop in my eyes from a hardware level and sleek and sophisticated hardware. I have thrown heavy games on this machine on ultra settings, works just fine, I highly recommend this!
Is the 4050 still good for gaming?
@@JustinThorson Forget about Dlss frame generation. Even the raw performance of RTX 4050 mobile is 50% better than RTX 3050ti mobile.
how long does the battery last in intensive use without being plugged in?
@@JustinThorson Yes it is, still using it as my primary gaming device, max out the settings, let me know any questions you have.
@@NomedigasYisus I haven't really tried that, I would say around 4ish hours maybe? I don't game without a power cord though, you lose performance
Excellent review! Thanks much! 🙌
Thanks for the great review! I am curious if your measured the battery life in which mode, especially for the normal use. This is because several reviewers complained about the battery life. At lease I want it to lasts more than 10 hours in optimized mode for light use like web browsing and HD video streaming.
thank you such a awesome review
Dope review with dope visuals as usual Chap... Hope the galaxy book 3 pro and lenovo yoga pro 9i reviews are up soon!
I got the Pro Book 2 360 as soon as it came out last year. Such a great laptop (despite the heat it can generate) There's not enough for me to upgrade to the Pro 3,
Now that's one hell of a spec for such a thin body. That screen to body ratio is crazy!
If I end up not choosing this, it will primarily be because of that high glare and reflection of the display. They badly need to add some kind of anti-glare, anti-reflection coating to the display. If you're always indoors, and can control the lighting around you it's likely not that big of a deal, but outdoors especially on sunny days, could be a problem. If they increased the max brightness from 400nits to 500nits that might help as well. My two cents.
Waiting for a Zenbook Pro 14” review as that seems like a great new ultrabook
I preordered Samsung Galaxy Book 3 ULTRA, got promotional 1TB storage and Samsung Education Program discounts and 36 months financing with zero interest. Loved it so far except that it attracts fingerprints easily. Sound could have more bass. Overall, I recommend it.
Transitioning from a MacBook Air to a Surface Book 3 has been a fantastic decision! I'm really impressed with the keyboard and trackpad size; they seem perfectly balanced on the smaller models. Since I use my Xbox for gaming, the gaming performance of the laptop was not a concern for me. What matters most to me are portability and quick response times, and this laptop certainly delivers on both fronts. Additionally, the screen quality is absolutely amazing! In my opinion, this is the ideal laptop for business purposes.
excellent review, thanks for opening it up also, looks like a great designed windows machine that's finally not some cheesy gaming pos
I agree man, I own the 4050 model because of your exact statement, I wanted a sophisticated laptop that can game but doesn't light up with tons of LED's and cheap plastics. Love this laptop!
A cocktease of a laptop...
Awesome screen - massive screen wobble
Creator focused - no full sized sd card reader
Performance focused - 16G RAM max
Good color accuracy - glossy as heck
i would have bought it if the screen was a factory matte display this hurts eyes
Great performance-poor battery life.
great battery life for background task- low battery life for performance apps.
The glossy screen part is a common thing among color accuracy focused displays for some reason. The matte coating might degrade the colors slightly, that's why macbooks and stuff like that, that focus on having color accurate screens, are almost always glossy
Did you test performance without plugging in for non gaming stuff?
Which controller is Tom using for gaming on windows?
First of all I would like to say awesome review and genuine, but I have a small doubt about video editing programs are running good? , it's will suits for content creator's bro??
Good review. How do you think this would compare to the new 17" Dell XPS 9730 with the 16GB RAM, 512GB or 1TB SSD, and the gen 13 i7 chip, H version? (If I went the Dell route I'd be torn between the battery life of the FHD+ screen versus the beauty of the 4k screen, so I guess that choice would depend on the battery life trade off)
Was waiting for your review for long..just ordered.. plus in India got free m8 uhd monitor free with it
My only fav game is bf3... will this be able to run it maxed in native resolution?
I was hoping for a book 3 Ultra 360. Totally agree about the uk ram limit, but I'd prefer they have socketed ram.
The deal-breaker is the Amoled display that flickers at very low frequency (only 59HZ). This cause more eye strain/ headache compared to IPS non-pwm displays
Hell naw
Is the 16gb/4050 enough for rendering multicam 4k footage in premier pro? I usually have multiple chrome tabs open as well
Does the super wobbly screen wobble while you’re typing on the keyboard?
I’ve been considering the LG Gram but this might be an even better pick up, heard the trackpad on LG’s are average
Build quality of LG is not as good. Feels a bit plastic-y
Did Tom cover thermals during load? Or did I miss it?
Subscribed ❤
I wanna see a thin and light laptop this year with a 15-17 inch 120hz OLED 16:10 display with a 7940HS paired with a 4060/4070. So far all of the laptops coming out with AMD this year are gaming laptops or those thin and lights without a 16:10 OLED 120hz display. I know the Asus G14 is coming out but that uses a mini LED display and it still looks like a gaming laptop. I wanna see a professional looking Windows device with Dell XPS 15/17 like build quality with a 7840HS paired with a 4060/4070 and a high refresh rate 16:10 OLED display.
Do they do trade-ins because I have the first generation, but I would love the ultra
Can I ask, you edit your videos yourself or have a editor person? 😉
Laptop is supe awesome, I especially like the physical slimness of it :) Another question...Sir, Is not it your ring scratch your laptops?
Hey Techchap great review would you recommend this or the upcoming Zenbook 14 pro 120 hz oled 4070? Thanks.
1:21 Specs are good but what TGP of RTX 4050 in this laptop ?
Waiting for the Surface Laptop 6, assuming Microoft finally update the design. Until then my Surface Pro X performs great (just wish it was a clamshell).
The keyboard and trackpad look cool, I wouldn’t have a problem with that
The Tech Chap Can you do an update review of the new XPS 17 with the 4080?
@Tele"gram me👉@OfficialTechChap👈 Where is your checkmark? Tech chap name has a checkmark. Please quit this scamming using people good name to harm others. If your life has come to this please re-evaluate yourself. You can be a better person.
can you charge it with a GaN charger with the PD 3.0 or 3.1 protocol?
Hey quick question. Is the i9 32GB version with the 4070 a good deal for around €1500 ? the normal price on most retail and online is around 3400 to 3600 euro. I can get this model new all for around 1500 euro.
Wouldve been nice if you included thermals, if the entire appeal is massive power cranked into a small form factor then thermals are a must see
I agree with you, to big for track pad and shacking screen.
Can you upgrade it? I'm in Canada and you only get the 16 GB option for RAM. For a laptop of this caliber and price that's ridiculous and a deal breaker.
I just want to know what was that glitch with the photo at 4:24 as i am facing the same in my Asus laptop with OLED screen, does anybody know how to fix that. I already got the display changed.
Is it just me or is the bottom screen-bezel on the thumbnail considerably smaller than in the actual video?
I hope in the next-gen they bring a touch display with S-pen support and a boxy design like the galaxy book flex and maybe 360ْ degree hinge with a haptic feedback track-pad and a bigger battery, and make the arrow keys like the lenovo legion's keys and support for windows hello also more and newer ports and a faster charger😅
Edit: and more colors that are not boring🌚
Unfortunately, this will never happen but these are my hopes in the end.🙃
You wont buy it anyway so why bother hoping
The convertible (360) has not been selling well. I suspect the whole Windows convertible sector is still niche with few takers especially at these prices. I think that that market will slowly become just for a few that can work with something as cumbersome as a 16-inch convertible laptop in tablet mode.
@JWil97 yeah I won't but I just hope, maybe someday I will find a jar of gold and do who knows 🤣🤣🤣
There's the Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro 360. It's basically the exact same laptop as the Ultra, and it has a touchscreen, spen, 360 hinge, and it's cheaper!
@LightningTech this is their first time with a proper GPU, if this one is selling well, they may make one next year. Technically, putting a 360 hinge on is nothing difficult.
Why no 32GB RAM model for UK? Does computing take less memory here? Skipping this due to RAM size
OS's aside, if you do any rendering, 3D work, animation, game development, etc., then obviously you're going for the Samsung. However, if you're not doing any of those, then go for the M2.
Samsung extras can be a video idea of its own. Where u can show featues exclusive to samsung ecosystem.
Anyone know where that MacBook background around 11:17 is from?
Will the version with the i9 heat up more than the i7 version??
When I set mine up I picked the option that says set up as new laptop with fresh start.....
When it started up it has files and stuff on my desktop from my actualy pc when I didn't want that.....
What can I do to get it to be like a fresh start. Do I have to factory reset now or does that affect the laptop. Should I just delete all the stuff from my pc from it or factory reset
Since all gaming laptops has to be plugged while gaming, I say with this form factor its a total win. I hope we see a battery revolution that eliminates these problems too
I guess, I own the 4050 model, I still don't understand to game unplugged. The plug on this thing is very apple like and very portable, no giant power brick. Hands down this laptop is on a great level for Windows!
@@Larseus well sure at home you dont have to unplug. But for this to be a true mobile device you should be able to unplug and have the full power
Just wait till 2025 , Intel may release 2nm/1.8nm processor, so you will get similar performance in both unplugged and plugged condition on cpu part.
GPU is handled by nvidia. Let's see how much they will do for efficiency. Even with efficiency if their is 100watt and 30watt GPU , people will go for 100watt and also criticize on battery and reduced performance while on battery😏
With the trackpad that large you'd have thought they would have made it possible to use as a pen writing surface.
or make it haptic touch like the macbooks or dell xps 13 plus
Great device love to have this
Anybody know is it possible to use a Thunderbolt (USB-C) to HDMI 2.1 adapter and get 4K/120Hz (e: and HDR) on LG CX? There are couple of those on the market and I'd order and try one or two if not any knowledge about the subject. 🤔
Thanks broskissss
This is a beast mood laptop so tempted
my dream laptop since 7 years ago, thin, light, premium look, and powerful that can smooth gaming
As a software engineer (also having a bunch of Galaxy stuff), I would love to have an i7 version with integrated graphics and 32 GB of RAM (or more). Such lame that they don't provide it...
Please what the name of the game he was playing at 3:11 the person in trench coat please any help would be appreciated
It looks beautiful but I would like to see other brands to push devices as such on the market so that I buy something like this in just about 5 years because I am broke af.
Yes, I love that samsung book 3 Ultra. I would love to buy it someday. I am seeing if samsung would make a much better laptop for gaming with a lot more games.
Stunning looking laptop, but blimey that is a high price.......think the screen wobble would worry me, but would love to game on something that portable
I'm between this laptop or the XPS 17. Which one's better?
Can you do a comparision between Samsung Galaxy Book 3 Pro and Asus Zenbook 14 OLED 3402VA?
Great video love your channel!
is it worth getting this for gaming? I travel a lot so a pc is not an option and gaming laptops are heavy
Whats the name of that animation where they are falling from the airplane?
my samsung laptop prolly my sturdiest laptop. bought in 2008 and still able to use in 2023
I would chose the 32gb option the gaming performance is excellent with only a 100 watt power brick which is unheard of in the past. Light and good for travel and over 100 fps in cyberpunk just perfect. Oh and OLED too forget MacBook
@blackpanthertchallalem8522 my issue was that there seems to be a small 5mm deadzone when you move your finger especially at slower speeds like when you attempt precise movements.
So if you try to move the pointer just a small bit, your first have to move your finger about half a cm before it actually starts moving/registering your input. It was incredibly frustrating for anything like closing chrome tabs or text editing. Did you have this issue or did this solution help at all?
@the tech chap please compare this Galaxy Book 3 ultra to the latest Dell XPS 15
i can see this shredding 3dsmax renders on vray.. and that display is the best overall on the market for a laptop with this price and performance.. although i think its overpriced still but so is every other laptop with a 40 series card..
Solid video though bro
7:43
“No power adapter or brick”
Ehhhh what is that cable connected to then? ;)
A major win for the Samsung is the second M.2 slot. Adding a 4 TB SSD is only a few hundred extra and for many much more useful than full performance on battery.
Remember that half of the GPU performance he noticed on battery was the default "ON" setting that Nvidia Battery Boost comes with. It limits everything to conserve battery as much as possible. You can turn this off and have close to full performance on battery in the GPU part at least, I don't know why tech reviewers always forget this
@@20CafesporDia Because it´s not worth it with Windows laptops.
@@instinct-8991 what? do you even know what you are talking about? Turning off Nvidia battery boost and getting your fps from 30 locked to like 150 fps is not worth it? dont know what you are smoking but its strong
Good Review
Great video Tom.
I picked up the i9 4070 here in the UK and was disappointed there was no 32gb option.
However I've not noticed any performance drops when running multiple apps.
In fact, this literally blows my XPS 9510 i7-11800H with 32gb ram out the water.
Hinge wobble isn't as big a deal as it appears and personally I love the keyboard.
Great option if like me you prefer Windows.
Ps - I've also got a MacBook Pro but prefer the B3U.
why do u have so many expensive laptops
@@ts8960 Because he own probably not even a single Notebook from Samsung or Apple, just a Samsung Fanboy.
No one in his right mind would buy 2 overpriced laptops that similar
Don't forget ulra has touchable screen and it's a Windows system. Windows can help people from all careers but mac help people from media field mainly.
In Brazil we have the i7/4050 with 32GB Ram. Got it for USD1.2k (Feb 24).
Está curtindo a máquina? Tô esperando a minha agora kkk
There is significant screen wobbling when typing - now that doesn't make it a rival to the high quality engineering seen on XPS or MacBook !
What’s the total praphic power of rtx4070 in samsung ultrabook 3?
I can live with the 100w thermal limits. But for pros, with the RTX 4070 I would’ve liked to see a 64gb ram option. Really, the bare minimum is 32gb for that kind of pricing. If you can’t compete with Mac in terms of battery life performance then you should make it more appealing in other areas.
This is looking appealing, I just wish Dell would put a vapor chamber in the XPS 15.
Wait - there seems to be something wrong with the framerates. My 3080 can run FH5 extreme RT on ~80-90 fps, 1440p resolution. I know the 4070 here is a mobile chip but still, 43 fps?
Finally it's coming
Good for productivity, editing and all nd ligjt gamming.
Very nice video
Well balanced, objective review. Thanks for that! This laptop reminds me a the ASUS S15 VivoBook I picked up a few years ago, a thin and light with dual GPUs. It doesn't have the specs of the Samsung of course, it is 3 years old, but I think the ASUS build quality is superior.
If you have $2400 to put on a laptop the razor blade 16 18 or any sleek gaming laptops that cause that will be a hell of a laptop than the Samsung, the Samsung laptop isn’t bad but would’ve stand a better chance at $1400
I appreciate that! :)
I'm sorry but there's no way in hell an Asus has better build quality than this Samsung. This is coming from someone typing on a zephyrus g14 which has frankly been an absolute nightmare for the several years that I've owned it
@Garrus Vakarian lol 😂 for 3000 I can get a blade 18 QHD 240hz mini led 4090 i9 16gb ram 1tb SSD or the acre predator helios 18 with the same specs
@@baller7387 I thought about buying an Asus gaming notebook. I'm not so sure now hearing about the QC issues.
Can the Samsung be used as hardcore gaming device?
I have the 4050 ULTRA. It's a great laptop. No real major complaints. Only one would be there is too little IO. 2 USB Cs, micro SD slot, 1 USB 3.(x) and an HDMI port. Not enough USB 3.(x)s!!!
