When my 3 children were young, I worked in retail management. The Christmas season was crazy busy. I worked very long hours as well and 7 days a week during the Christmas rush. In other words, I had NO time for baking but I wouldn’t let the kids suffer because of my career. We had a traditional Christmas Cookie baking and decorating evening every year. Being so short on time, I always whipped up cake mix cookie dough. The kids were delighted to roll them into balls and decorate them with sprinkles and colored sugar. There was also the grand batch that got canned frosting and sprinkles and sugar. These were our Christmas Cookies and they were really delicious. Very sweet but they didn’t mind. Fast forward to my children growing up and moving away. They were horrified that Christmas Cookies in the mainland (USA) (we are from Hawaii) didn’t taste “like Hawaii Christmas Cookies”. Soft cookies are it for me. Though I can enjoy a nice crunchy-crumbling one from time to time, they just don’t compare to the ones that just melt in your mouth.

so fun fact most sprinkles like the rainbow ones you used are just dried royal icing that have been colored. sprinkles normally have fake vanilla in them and depending on when they were made can get that "old vanilla" taste due to the time taken in the drying process and or the amount of time on a shelf. don't like sprinkles myself and not all sprinkles are equal to another but hay that's just a cookie lol

We used to make these as a kid during Christmas every year but with whipped topping in there too. I can't remember the exact recipe but we always made strawberry and chocolate ones rolled in powdered sugar and then baked. they were amazingggg. now i need to call my mom and see if she can dig the recipe out or remembers it.
I completely agree with you about rainbow sprinkles. "Old vanilla" yes yes yes. I always said "musty vanilla" - like vanilla mixed with dust. LOL. Happy holidays, Emmy!
Hi Emmy, these are a nice flash from the past. I can remember making these while raising my children. I also used to make ice cream with cake mix. So much fun letting the kiddos add thier favorite ingredients. 💕Tfs 🌲 Happy Holiday 🌲
I've made the snickerdoodle cake cookies before and as far as being a super easy take on my favorite cookie I absolutely love them in cake cookie form.
I make cake box cookies all the time.My. boyfriend loves them bc they stay soft. I always use butter cake mix (Pillsbury). You definitely get the butter flavor with that. I made them once with yellow cake mix you can notice notice difference.I love the taste of rainbow sprinkles!
Hi Emmy! I made these cookies earlier today and they were delicious! I used a devil’s food cake box mix, and the consistency of the cookies are like brownies! I ended up baking them for 15 minutes instead of 10. The finished cookies are a little too oily though, so next time I’ll add maybe 1/3 cup of oil next time. Thank you so much for sharing this recipe!!
I used to make these and yes they are so easy and they pass for made from scratch. My favorite was doing the Pillsbury funfetti cake mix cookies they were always a hit.
During the summer my mom and I always use chocolate cake mix to make chocolate cookies for ice cream sandwiches! They taste great with vanilla ice cream and freeze really well.
I use yellow cake mix for cakes. However, I improvise by putting different ingredients. The last one I made yesterday, had a can of pumpkin, 1/4 cup of water, flaxseed meal, dry dates (minced), dried cherries, raisins, 3 eggs. No oil. It was delicious.
It's a Sunday night and I'm out of ingredients but desperate for biscuits/cookies (Im from Oz)! So I used 1 box of white cake mix, 1/4 c almond milk, 1/4 c of sunflower oil, tsp of cinnamon and I didn't have any eggs so goggled a replacement and used tbspn of vinegar. I rolled dough into a tblspn size and pressed them down a bit after 10-15 mins a nice soft biscuit with a light crunch on the outside! Thanks Emmy! I can go to bed happy tonight!
I do this with lemon cake mix. I like a cookie that is thinner and crisp at the edges, so I flatten them with a glass dipped in sugar and it makes them so good!
I've tried making these cookies before. Used the same brand you have. Tried different flavours. They all had this strange chemical aftertaste that I disliked that I don't remember them having when making actual cake out of them. It was very weird. I'm glad yours worked out!
Awww this brought back great memories... I have the sweetest friend who lives far away now but when she lived in my town she used to make a platter of 20 of these for me every year on my birthday, with one letter on each written with icing to spell out “happy birthday Summer!” 🤣❤️

I made these today..all varieties. My favorite were the snicker doodles and peppermint. Next time I make them, I'll make a variety using chocolate cake Mix. 😋
Hey Emmy! 👋 Ik I'm way to late sense this video was posted 2 years ago but right now I have gotten into baking cookies out of Cake Box mix and Brownie Box Mix and just want to say that I love all your ideas for the cookies *(Funfetti Cookies/Choco Chip Cookies/Candy Cane Cookies/Cinnamon Sugar Cookies) but I have to say about the buttery flavor use say your missing well honestly sense I have gotten into doing this style of cookies I have been looking for many ways to do it and you can do it like you did with [Veggie Oil & 2 Eggs] but you can also do it with [Coconut Oil & 2 Eggs] or [Avocado Oil & 2 Eggs] or even [Melted Butter & 2 Eggs] and about the Eggs honestly I think is how you actually feel about it cuz I have seen many videos where people used just 1 Egg instead of 2 Eggs so is more like a personal desition about and actually it doesn't make a big change in the recipe or any at all why I can do say is that the melts is what makes the change by melt I mean the oils (depending of what type you use for the cookies the cookies can come out more crispy or more cake like still they all taste amazing so is not change in taste but in the texture there can exist a small or big difference and if you use butter that can be a taste of change cuz then the cookies will came out with that famous buttery flavor you looking for...) And I personaly thing that making cookies out of a cake box or Brownie box is not just only fast and easy but is also a way for to be creative with flavors and Toppings you can mix them with whatever you want an drop them with whatever you want and they are just the perfect snack also you can do it with Glutten Free Cake Mix and also Vegan Cake Mix as well so yeah there is a variety for everyone for sure and that's what I mostly love about this cookies.
Ha. My wife and I were just talking about having cake mix in the cabinet and how good it would be to make cake mix cookies. Then I see that you indeed read our minds and provided the perfect video for us❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😊😊❤️❤️❤️❤️
They have been a potluck favorite. Also lemon cake mix, butter, cream cheese "cookies" are amazing. I used the Paula Dean gooey butter cookies but used lemon mix instead of chocolate.
I made cake mix cookies for a BIG party one year. They turned out great, and were so easy to mix up & bake! I still prefer made-from-scratch cookies, but this is a fantastic way to whip up a large batch of cookies fast!
Love your show as always... I make these cookies for my kids after school... the peppermint I've tried.. but with white chocolate and peppermint pieces.. easy peasey lemon squeezy..
Yes! I make these with funfetti mix and frost them with vanilla icing, and they remind me if those super sugary soft baked cookies you buy at the store!
Yay, cookies. I just ate cookies ("Annie's Birthday cake bunnies"). I like the sweet processed vanilla-ish flavor of rainbow sprinkles. It reminds me of treats when I was a child. I like turning the bunnies over & seeing all the melted birthday sprinkles on their backs. If we ever get to go to potlucks again, they will make a good donation for the table, I think. Does anyone know what happens if I substitute some (or all) butter (melted) instead of oil? How soft do the cookies stay after a few hours, or a day, does anyone know?
Butter would make these tough and dense. Youd be better off cooking the butter on the stove on low heat to evaporate the extra water, and the cookies should last for a week in an airtight container. The preservatives in cake powder will keep them soft!
I make these a lot, but my recipe is a bit different! A block of cream cheese, a stick of butter, an egg, vanilla and the cake mix. They are so good! Happy Holidays to all! 😊💞
Mix room temp cream cheese and butter in a mixer. Add the egg and 1 tsp of vanilla and mix. Then add the yellow cake and mix. Chill the dough for 30 mins. Once chilled, roll into balls and roll in powdered sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for 10-12 minutes. Then eat them all. 😁

My grandma made cake mix cookies with strawberry cake mix. They were so good!
I cannot wait to try these! They look delicious. That freshly baked cookie smell is all Christmas
Who would ever dislike Emmy’s videos? I don’t understand 🧐
Maybe because it's all cookie and no milk 😂😂😂😂😂
I make snickerdoodles using box cake mix all the time, we love them!!
I started baking Tupperware Cake Mix cookies in the early '80s. These are the easiest cookies every. You can make them into anything you want just by changing the mix ins. Great video.
What do you call a redhead freaking out at a cookie store?
A Ginger Snap
Ahah
@Jasmine Flower rarely laughed that totally makes sense 🤡
I’ve made these for years!!!! Love cookies from cake mix, spice cake cookies are the BEST!!
My grandma and I used to make funfetti ones, with frosting and sprinkles. I remember loving them, but I loved anything we made together. Thank you for bringing back a fun memory 😊
so I was looking for a fun idea since were home this new years eve and this is what I chose!!!! you are an absolute delight to watch and my go to when I'm in a UA-cam mood. I love the ration videos and the super fun recipes I would never personally try without seeing an honest review before hand and that's what i love about you well one of many things!!! thank you for always bringing a smile to the camera it makes the hard days a lot easier
I love how consistently you upload Emmy! You're a huge inspiration for my channel ❤
OH EM GUES THEY LOOK SO YUMMY ♥️♥️♥️ you just lighten up my day 🥰
I've made the snickerdoodle cake cookies before and as far as being a super easy take on my favorite cookie I absolutely love them in cake cookie form.
We all need a snickerdoodle friend.
I remember ice cream coming in half gallon boxes. That has shrunk a lot.
My cousin Clifton used to make cake box cookies for all our family reunions. They were a family favorite.
My favourite cookies that I make that win everyone over are cake mix cookies. French vanilla cake mix and stuffed with a piece of Mars bar
Cake batter cookies are the stinkin best! Thanks emmy!
I feel like a lemon cake mix with glaze after it's baked would be perfect for this
i love making cake cookies and adding earl grey tea into the mix. very yummy.
I’m so early! Hey Emmy! Always love your videos. Love from here in Scotland❤️
Omg I went to school with you 😂😂😂
Emmy those cookies really look delicious. Hope you staying safe wherever you are!
I had the exact same experience.
Awww this brought back great memories... I have the sweetest friend who lives far away now but when she lived in my town she used to make a platter of 20 of these for me every year on my birthday, with one letter on each written with icing to spell out “happy birthday Summer!” 🤣❤️
this video reminds me of that english heritage video, where the lady says something in the vein of "and this is a recipe for a lovely bisquit. some americans would call it a cookie." haha :D great video. they sure look taaaasty :)
Mrs. Crocomb is her name. I love her recipes.
I live for Mrs. Crocombe!! "For this recipe you will need ..."
I made these today..all varieties. My favorite were the snicker doodles and peppermint.
Next time I make them, I'll make a variety using chocolate cake Mix. 😋
Hey Emmy! 👋
Ik I'm way to late sense this video was posted 2 years ago but right now I have gotten into baking cookies out of Cake Box mix and Brownie Box Mix and just want to say that I love all your ideas for the cookies *(Funfetti Cookies/Choco Chip Cookies/Candy Cane Cookies/Cinnamon Sugar Cookies) but I have to say about the buttery flavor use say your missing well honestly sense I have gotten into doing this style of cookies I have been looking for many ways to do it and you can do it like you did with [Veggie Oil & 2 Eggs] but you can also do it with [Coconut Oil & 2 Eggs] or [Avocado Oil & 2 Eggs] or even [Melted Butter & 2 Eggs] and about the Eggs honestly I think is how you actually feel about it cuz I have seen many videos where people used just 1 Egg instead of 2 Eggs so is more like a personal desition about and actually it doesn't make a big change in the recipe or any at all why I can do say is that the melts is what makes the change by melt I mean the oils (depending of what type you use for the cookies the cookies can come out more crispy or more cake like still they all taste amazing so is not change in taste but in the texture there can exist a small or big difference and if you use butter that can be a taste of change cuz then the cookies will came out with that famous buttery flavor you looking for...)
And I personaly thing that making cookies out of a cake box or Brownie box is not just only fast and easy but is also a way for to be creative with flavors and Toppings you can mix them with whatever you want an drop them with whatever you want and they are just the perfect snack also you can do it with Glutten Free Cake Mix and also Vegan Cake Mix as well so yeah there is a variety for everyone for sure and that's what I mostly love about this cookies.
Wow thank you Emmy for the cake mix trick! Didn’t know that they did that.
Can’t sleep ( I’m in the UK) so watching Emmy make cookies! Yay!! 😃
Emmy you the best :D
I like how you experience different foods from different cultures!
I'm so early!! Emmy i hope you have a great day!♡ be safe and take care everyone!♡
I made cake mix cookies for a BIG party one year. They turned out great, and were so easy to mix up & bake! I still prefer made-from-scratch cookies, but this is a fantastic way to whip up a large batch of cookies fast!
This is my mom's favorite cookie recipe. A go to when I was growing up!
Love your show as always... I make these cookies for my kids after school... the peppermint I've tried.. but with white chocolate and peppermint pieces.. easy peasey lemon squeezy..
These were good! I used half a box cake mix and had dark chocolate chips, heath bar crunch, and sea saly on top
i actually made these cookies for Christmas but with devils food mix, then add 1 andes candy on top as soon as they come out....so good!
We always use butter flavored crisco and it adds just the right amount of butter taste. This recipe is a family favorite!
Please tell me how you make them what temp and time and do you chill the dough, scoop, make balls, etc.
@@Amy-wj9ek that sounds amazing! thanks for your response. :)
My dad makes this exact recipe at least twice a month. it’s so simple and easy to memorize. chocolate or strawberry cake mix are also super good 😭 I could never find this specific recipe online so it’s cool to see someone else with the same one memorized.
@@Amy-wj9ek thanks again. Tonight I made the dough from white cake mix and added almond extract. It is chilling in the fridge. Will let you know how it turns out! 🥰
I made some of these earlier today! My favorite is strawberry cake mix with chocolate chips.
I’m one for scratch cookies but the cake box cookies are so good. My daughter uses lemon cake mix that is so full of lemon flavor.
You always help me unwind after a hard day, thank you Emmy! I hope you and yours have a healthy and happy Christmas ☃️💚
Hey, you made it through another day. You're doing amazing, Sweetie!
@@charlie6923 and so are you! What lovely supportive fans Emmy has. Have a wonderful time over the festive season, you wonderful soul 🥰
Thank you.😊 I hope you and yours are safe and well, too. Merry Christmas!
I love making chocolate cake into cookies! One of my favorites. Super easy. I just add a little powdered sugar on top. You can also make them into cookie bars if you didn’t want to drop a bunch of cookies.
