I was born in 1972, so as a little kid, I remember Storytown (and surrounding attractions in Lake George like Magic Forest and Frontier Town) well. And Storytown's eventual shift to Great Escape in 1983. At least parts of Storytown still exist within the park. Miss those days!

so many of the structures and buildings are still being used there!! nuts how its over 40 and the gift shops are still there the same!

The shops at Frontier Town aren't being used, the land became overrun with weeds and trees. The business hasn't been running in many years. You can find videos on UA-cam of how bad the area became after it closed down. I remember going there as a kid for summer vacations, it's a shame what happened to it.

@@flipper0417 Wrong. This park is now Six Flags Great Escape and most of the structures in this footage still exist exactly as is. I grew up going to this Amusement Park throughout the early 2000's and into the 2010's. Six Flags did a great job restoring and then adding more onto the park.

@@flipper0417 Frontier town is gone. Perhaps OP was talking about Ghost Town which is now Six Flags Great Escape

Great Escape actually has been there for over 65 years. Frontier Town was an old western cowboy attraction with a rodeo, gun shows including a train robbery. That land is over grown with trees and weeds and the buildings are falling down. It's 2 completely separate areas/ attractions

flipper0417 Yup. Great Escape was Storytown USA previously which is the first half of the video.

I started going there in ‘65 with my family . I was five years old. Great memories. The kids today would find this boring; no high tech and videos. My wife and I have been going there with our kids for the last 18 years. Our grown adult daughters still like coming up with us. Miss all the corny attractions.. Lake George is still a great place to go.

Thank you for the look back at the past. I was a kid when we went to see those places...living in The Albany area it was a short drive...witched seemed really long as a kid.. the parks are either gone or really look nothing like that any more..times were a lot simpler back than.

This is a really great video.. Showcases Storytown and Frontier Town in their hay day. The park now, The Great Escape, is still good but the theming clashes with itself throughout the entirety of the park. Everything shown in Storytown looks very natural and like it all belongs together, opposed to the mini fairytale houses right next to gigantic big budget thrill rides like the Sasquatch or the Fireball. Jungle Land doesnt really even exist anymore. I understand the changes though, had it not adapted it would end up like the Magic Forest down the road. I suppose we’re very lucky they still have any of the old structures at all. Was never around to see Frontier Town but it looks like it was a pretty cool park. Thanks for the upload.

What was Frontier Town? I was born in 86' so I don't really know much about Storytown other than what my parents told me about it. I don't remember ever hearing about Frontier Town... was it part of the park?

I remember the Swan Boats, and the whale at 1:39, but when I went in the early 70s, the whale was on concrete, not in the water. There were these little round windows in the throat that you could look into, and see the inside of the whale. It was a Pinocchio thing.

@@19king14 WOW ! Its not often that content providers can be so stubborn and arrogant that they counter someone who is providing correct information , with a smart ass response like yours.
For your clearly limited information , the Frontier town depicted in YOUR video WAS located in North Hudson NY just as the commenter pointed out.
Clearly you are so utterly arrogant that you ignore the irrefutable evidence that he provided and that is available absolutely EVERYWHERE !
Major thumbs down for your channel

So let's sort this out in a way that maybe everyone can be happy. The video is actually of 2 different parks. Story Town is depicted in the first half of the video. This is the current park know as Six Flags Great Escape. Many of the old buildings are still there, and the Alice in Wonderland trail is still open to this current day. The second half of the video is in fact of the Frontier Town in North Hudson, and is most recognized by the arena the held the rodeo. (Story Town did not have a rodeo arena that I have ever known.) The title of the video may be misleading, but maybe we can all be a little bit nicer about it.

can ANYONE tell me ALL or at least SOME, hopefully sufficient information to find, that...childs initiation into the army theyd hold here b4 frontier town closed, and then they obviously kept that act together and indeed took it on the road, as shown on "Americas funniest home videos", where they would tell, indeed little 6 yo boys "and you're not going to see your parents again for a long time", whole bunch of little, I dare state VARIOUS ages, children gathered together to "join" the army, with this guy in the frontier version of American general costume, DOING the initiation. anyone remember this/maybe experienced it somewhat recently ? I'm looking for where they took this program after frontier town closed down, where they're doing this now ? any information would be appreciated

@@DaviesAgent I dont think so. he and his comrades were dressed in those classic solid blue uniforms of the "civil" war era and the lead guy was walking back and forth initiating the children VERY YOUNG children I will add, yadayadayada, and he said and you're not going to see your parents again for a long time...unnerving some of the children needless to say, then SO MANY years later "Americas funniest home videos" has one home video with a young army, lead guy says that same line, so they must have taken the act on the road, to another theme park perhaps seeing as this park is now buried by weeds and such, sadly, and that little child turns around crying moomm, audience laughs, a true cavalry. I want to remember the full skit. but thank you for this info. another cool.memory from these awesome parks from the past ! and thank you for trying !
