When I was 17, I left home to be a groom for the horses in that circus riding act shown briefly at the beginning. It was Tommy Hanneford's riding act and I believe the white horse's name was Prince.
Reading a book called God of the woods. It takes place in the Adirondacks. They mentioned Storytown in Lake George. I grew up going to LG and had to search up some Storytown video. Anyone with me? Frontier Town? Gaslight Village? Great times ❤
They used to come out after you parked your car and attach a Story Town card board sign with wires on your bumper..My dad would freak...than years later that turned into a bumper sticker..can still remember walking down Main Street with the Sheriff using your finger to shoot the bad guys..hard to believe that was over 50 years ago...time never stops.
I went there as a kid when it was Storytown USA in the mid 70s. I was 11 or 12. Years later a friend and I went around 2000 or so when it was The Great Escape, or as we called it, The Great Mistake. Overpriced food and drinks, not allowed to bring in your own although we spotted many ppl with sippy cups. Some rides were either broken down or closed. You'd get on a ride and once you got on, I think it made 3 or 4 revolutions, then they'd get you off. Barely lasted one or 2 minutes, except for the coasters. Even if there was no line. We never went back. Of course the main reason I wanted to go was to ride the Comet - I grew up when it was at Crystal Beach and was thrilled to see at GE. I heard talk of them considering "taming it down"...I hope they didn't do that.
can ANYONE tell me ALL or at least SOME, hopefully sufficient information to find, that...childs initiation into the army theyd hold here b4 frontier town closed, and then they obviously kept that act together and indeed took it on the road, as shown on "Americas funniest home videos", where they would tell, indeed little 6 yo boys "and you're not going to see your parents again for a long time", whole bunch of little, I dare state VARIOUS ages, children gathered together to "join" the army, with this guy in the frontier version of American general costume, DOING the initiation. anyone remember this/maybe experienced it somewhat recently ? I'm looking for where they took this program after frontier town closed down, where they're doing this now ? any information would be appreciated
Frontier Town was separate from Storytown but I remember the initiation because I did it. Had to do a couple of pushups and maybe got a badge. I recall being told to dig a little hole and bury my gum. Later on a train ride villains boarded but us kids were able to take them down. Funny stuff. I have a picture from that day. Circa 1977
I have many memories at Story Town in the 70’s and early 80’s. Haven’t been there since.

I’m with you! Some of my best childhood memories were in Lake George and Catskills Game farm!
Thanks so much for making this. Brought back childhood memories of my family going to LG. Just got back from taking my family. Just not the same…..

We visited in 1958, and you reminded me of those wired cardboard signs on our bumper! Man, that was a lifetime ago.

I still have my deputy's badge somewhere - pinned on by Windy Bill McKay circa 1956. Good memories. Thanks.
