In the little town of Lensville, old Grandpa Jenkins was a man of great wisdom and an eye for detail. He often spent his evenings on the porch, rocking gently back and forth in his creaky old chair, sipping ice-cold lemonade. Bessie, his faithful dog, was his constant companion. The bond between them was as strong as the oak tree that shaded their humble abode, and Bessie's gentle, amber eyes held a universe of secrets. The sun kissed the horizon, and the wind whistled through the leaves, carrying with it the soft hum of a windmill in the distance. Atop one of the windmill's blades, a tiny spider clung to the edge, coasting in the wind like a brave sailor upon a stormy sea. The spider, much like Grandpa Jenkins, possessed an extraordinary capacity for adaptation, building its delicate web in a precarious dance of life and death. Grandpa Jenkins chuckled, a sound that echoed through the years, and began to regale Bessie with a story. "You see, Bessie," he said, "this world is full of wonders, and it's all in the details. Why, just the other day, I was sittin' by the gas station, and I saw ol' Skinny Pete drinkin' a Pepsi out of a glass bottle." The fizzling bubbles in the bottle seemed to dance with the same complexity and grace as the atoms that formed the universe, a symphony of effervescence. Bessie's ears perked up, her head cocked to the side as she listened intently. Grandpa continued, "Now, Pete's always been one to keep up with the times. But this particular day, he was debating with himself about somethin' peculiar, somethin' about the differences between the Sony ZV-E1 and the Sony A7S III." Grandpa Jenkins paused, his eyes narrowing as he contemplated the intricacies of the matter. "You see, the ZV-E1 is like the spider on the windmill blade, agile and able to capture life's finest moments with ease. Its compact form defies the bounds of expectation, much like the spider's delicate web, which holds strong against the gusts of the wind." He took another sip of his lemonade, its sweetness a metaphor for the fleeting beauty of life. "On the other hand, the A7S III is like the steadfast oak tree, its roots buried deep within the earth. With unparalleled image quality and a refined focus system, it provides a sense of stability and resilience in the ever-changing world of technology." Grandpa Jenkins leaned back, his eyes twinkling with a hint of mischief. "Now, Bessie, I might not be a scientist or nothin', but I reckon that in the grand scheme of things, it's all about perspective. The way we perceive the world around us is like a kaleidoscope, a vibrant and ever-shifting tapestry of light and color." Bessie wagged her tail, understanding the wisdom that lay beneath Grandpa Jenkins' words. The sun dipped below the horizon, casting the sky in hues of orange and pink. As darkness enveloped the little town of Lensville, the spider on the windmill blade, the oak tree, and the fizzling bubbles of a Pepsi in a glass bottle reminded Grandpa Jenkins and Bessie of the profound beauty that lies hidden in the everyday.
I hope they won't kill the A7S line like the rumors suggest. I would much prefer a video beast in a hybrid body with an EVF and mechanical shutter than what an FX Line body would offer. An A7S IV with the newer AI features and perhaps enough megapixels for a 4K crop mode retaining the same rolling shutter performance would be a dream. Plus points if it gets Open Gate and shutter angle.
The neglected features in the A7S III make it a hard camera to buy right now. I suspect it’s intentionally being neglected in preparation for the A7 S IV. Good break down of the key features.
Just shot a 4 camera video with 2 ZV-1 s, the ZV-E10 and the G9 and it worked out really good. There's no need for these large sensor cameras in a studio setting 👍
you say, “It’s or the channel - think of the vacations and trips we’ll go on to test it out. And spending that money will make MORE money.” This is the way 🤣
The Sony a7S iii will definitely do better in torture tests for heat, but it has overheated on me when shooting to two cards in a small office with the AC off. I think one of the cards was CF express type A. If heat is a concern for anyone considering that camera and they’ll be shooting weddings or something on warm summer days, probably better to opt for the Sony FX series.
The say it has some moisture and dust resistance, but it is no where near the weather sealing of the a7siii. I own the zv-e1 and I would not bring it out in anything other than a light mist.
both of these are good choices because of the low rolling shutter. But the ZV-E1 has a new stabilization mode that is great. So I would probably go with that
Hey Mark, Question: If the a7siii got a firmware update that gave it everything the zv-e1 has that could be achieved using the hardware in the a7siii. So, stuff that the AI chip is in charge of would obviously still be weighted as "pros" on the ZV-E1 side of the equation. What do you think the balance sheet would look like then? I ask, because I have a feeling that the a7siii WILL get a firmware update, and so want to know how they both stack up against each other in that scenario. Perhaps an idea for another video?
Thanks for this video Mark! Huge favor of you: Can you explain crop sensor modes on Sony full-frame cameras? Does the bokeh stay the same or does it become like an APS-C camera's bokeh? How's the lowlight? Thanks a lot! BTW, if there is an A7V, what would you like to see in it?
The bokeh is technically the same, but since the field of view is different with the crop - it will appear to have less blur - so identical to using an APSC camera. The brightness will stay the same - a 1.8 will still be a 1.8. But there will be more noise on apsc size sensors. So basically - think of using the apsc crop more on the full frame camera the same as picking up an apsc camera and shooting EXCEPT that you lose 2.25 times the megapixels on the full frame. So if you're shooting photos on a 24mp full frame camera and you go into apsc crop mode - those photos are more like 10.6 megapixels.
So if I get this job I'm applying for, and they ask me what camera I would want, between the A7S III, FX30, and A7 IV, which one would you get on the company's dime?
Hi Mark, can i use my Sony 11mm F1.8 lens on this ZVE1 without buying a new ultra wide lens? because theoretically, the frame will be cropped a lot when you turn on dynamic stabilize mode, so just keep this mode on and you will be able to avoid the black border cause by using crop lens on fullframe body. Is that possible?
I think if you use the dynamic stabilization you will be able to use the Sony 11 without vignette. When I get my ZV-E1 in - it will be the first thing I test

Thanks Mark for all the amazing content you share with us! I’ve been learning a lot from you. I'm a music producer and I want to get a camera to film and take photos of artists in the studio, create content for UA-cam, streaming, and maybe do some simple videos outdoors. Recording studios are usually a little bit dark. My friend is selling me an A7sll in $600, and I can also get an ZV-e10 for $600. Some of my film and photography director friends recommend the A7sIl, others the zv-e10 and I don't know what decision to make. If it’s possible, I would greatly appreciate your feedback! That is a tough call, but the a7sii doesn't have phase detect autofocus. The ZV-E10 is better for people relying on autofocus, but the a7sii is a full frame camera and will be better in low light with equivalent lenses (although you may have to manually focus). @@A.Edilbi My apologies, I understand now, but you need to understand that sales tax is different depending on state(if you order online), or city(if you order at a brick and motor), and that's ONLY the USA. yes - I can’t imagine many buying it new at full price
Agreed. New, it’s a non starter. But used, it’s about £200-300 more and that’s just too hard to ignore.
Canon should drop the price or add the new features & call it the A7SIII.2
Appreciate your reviews thank you
I have A7S3, this vid helped me decide to keep it, instead of ZVE1.
A7S3 is worth keeping!!
Just shot a 4 camera video with 2 ZV-1 s, the ZV-E10 and the G9 and it worked out really good. There's no need for these large sensor cameras in a studio setting 👍

Isn't the zv-e1 marketed as being weather sealed just as the a7sii is? Where did you see the 'weather resistant' ?

I wish you put Canadian prices as well! Good video as always. Another video idea... s5ii vs a7siii or zve1 ?
What do you think 18mm is when the ZV-E1 is in Dynamic Active mode?
Should be about 24
It’s minimum 1.5x crop, but more like 1.8x when you factor in lens breathing compensation as well.
Thanks for this video Mark! Huge favor of you:

not sure - but hopefully soon
So if I get this job I'm applying for, and they ask me what camera I would want, between the A7S III, FX30, and A7 IV, which one would you get on the company's dime?
A7SIII if video only(even better is fx3). But if you’re doing a lot of photos, and you don’t need 4k120, I would get the a7iv
Thanks!

I come here for the comparisons, the information doesn't change whether Mark has the camera in-hand or not. It's still relevant info, and in a form that's easy to digest for me.
