  • This video explains how I made an extension for my crosscut sled which enables me to make extended length repeatable cuts with 100% accuracy.

The table saw is a Delta 10" Contractor's Saw that I bought new in 1989. It does not have a riving knife. The Micro Jig Saw Splitter takes the place of a riving knife.

Very clever jig. One thing you can add to give some support is to glue a small piece of wood under your stop block. Or make a stop block for when you cut very long boards.

I made something very similar years ago, with an additional piece of wood to support longer boards. Same height of the sled table

A smart solution to a common challenge, thanks. One possible refinement might be to add a strip of hardwood or plywood to the underside of the part of the jig that hangs out beyond the sled itself. Then the board you are cutting has somewhere to rest. This would seem particularly helpful if you are cutting a larger / heavier board or piece of plywood.
I've subscribed, and am looking forward to more of your insights.

FYI, in a pinch, the t bolts are the same size as toilet bolts. Those are sold at all home improvement stores. They are 1/4-20.

Very nice build. This solves several problems associated with CC sleds, particularly how big do you make it & store it. The only potential issue I can see is that (over time) the edge of the ext. fence can get shaved down by the TS blade and you lose the "zero" Have you found this to be a problem?

Hi Andrew...I set the extension so that it just comes into contact with the leading tooth on the table saw blade. It touches, but the blade moves cleanly. I rough measure with the cursor and always confirm with a tape measure. I have not lost the zero. Thanks for watching!

I like this, and am going to make one this evening. I have a question for you though, it appears, at least on my monitor, that the tape measure on the left side of your blade, is not set to zero where the blade begins to cut. Am I just not seeing it correctly, or is that the way you have it set up??

That's a great question! I went out to the shop and took a picture to show you, but I can't upload it. When I set my cursor on the one inch line on the tape measure, the edge of the stop block is at the zero mark. When I set the stop block at 1", the measurement is from the edge of the stop block to the blade. Make sense?

@@oldeshed I can't picture in my head what you mean, but I do like the extension you made.

IT LOOKS GOOD. BUT THE QUESTION I HAVE IS THAT THE EXTENSION HAS TO BE VERY VERY SQUARE ARE YOU JUST RUINED THE PURPOSE OF THE SLED !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I WILL STICK TO MY SLED !!!!!
