- After comments on UA-cam and questions on reddit im finally going to build a new mini crawler course and take you along for the ride! part 1 is here and im going to try to keep it to as little individual videos as I can, its a long process especially filling it but im excited to show you how I build and design my mini indoor crawler courses! :)

I can't wait. Going to build my new coarse this weekend I'm just having such a hard time deciding what I'm building (as for obstacles). I have too many ideas and not enough space, I'm gonna try to run it in two tiers/levels well kinda I mean the lower road will run through tunnels of which will be the bases for the top road on top of the mountains then I'm going to run a large rope bridge across the top I think idk see now I'm second guessing that sounds like too much haha so indecisive I'll figure it out thanks for the vid man
If you made some cardboard hills etc you can map it out first then get a better idea of what you doing, you could also hot glue them in place and add foam on top it would save you money on foam as well Q
Thought about that after I build the course lol great advise and I’ll definitely do that on my next build! 👍🏻😄
I love making little portable hills with the expanding foam
It’s super fun 😄 but also can be a lot of work
Tip: use some cheap styrofoam cups to build up your mountain under the spray foam so your not using so much foam, not sure about where you live but here those cans get expensive $16 per can now I know that's not super expensive but it really adds up if you use 5 to 10 cans right so why not make the center as hollow as you can.
Yeah. And at construction sites, you can easily find dumpsters full of scraps of foam board. you can build up layers of foam board and shape them with a serrated knife, basically make anything you want for FREE.
Yo I really like your plaster effect! I’m thinking about trying some drywall mud!! Than paint of course! But was thinking ARDEX FEATHER finish and kind of like paint it on the foam cause trucks slid around a lot of spinning couldn’t really get far... but noticed it always just needed a little nudge in places, but than I figured I’d really get weight on my truck and than perfection less spinning more crawling more challenging but satisfied! I put a mini leather man inside and it gave it a lot of weight but was better than just the few upgraded weights on it! Great video thanks
What is your opinion on using 1” thick insulation board for the base? - I have to hang my board on a wall for storage - that is why I was thinking going with light weight material as possible - any input is greatly appreciated!
I have not used that material before but if it will hold together then I don’t think it would be an issue

Main body - Polystyrene floor insulation boards on plywood base.
Texture - Loose Fill Cellulose Fibre insulation mixed with Plaster of Paris and Water based PVA Glue.
Detail and Colour - Railway landscaping / War Game landscape Flock, Grit, Gravel etc. Woodland Scenics paints. Contractors tub of PVA.
Sounds like you have built a scale landscape before haha I might be that detailed some day but for now I’m keeping it simple 👍🏻😄
I think I'm going to use truck and build as I go use stuff I can change maybe at least for smfirst course
Catching up on this series. I missed the wintertime indoor build, but with the heat coming on, I think I may start a summer indoor course. Maybe I missed it, but what size is your base? -- Also, still have a t-shirt with Great Stuff on it from an architecture school project... that stuff is forever.
Haha yeah I have a couple knifes that will have Great Stuff on them forever now, and the base of the courses I build are 2foot by 4foot, it’s small enough to carry around and fit in and out of doorways in my house but large enough to have fun on it with the 1/24 scale crawlers
My two rcx24s showed up today silver chev and green deadbolt for me and my son got a table rdy to do this just need ideas thanks you
You should make a few that are fun separate but you can also bump them up together to make a bigger coarse. Kind of like a modular coarse. You could even use magnets to clip them together

Have you ever thought of making a multi upper layer lower layer course like it would connect together with p v c vipe
I have and I even attempted one once but it was difficult and It ended up being more work than I wanted to do at the time, I might have to revisit it though!
@UpperLeftRC I was just thinking if you did part
upper layer and then part on lower layer it would give u room to turnaround u would cut spice in 1/2
4foot by 2foot on the lower layer and 2foot by 2foot on the top layer

Try using scuptamold as a finish coat. Sort of paper mache / plaster product. Popular in model railroading.
