Soloing Black Temple as a Demon Hunter is really weird. Because all of a sudden, I don't see faceless mobs to kill. I see loyal Illidari soldiers. I see an army preparing to invade Argus and lay waste to the demonic homeworld of the Legion. But then they were murdered. Murdered for the crime of trying to end the burning legion. FOR LORD ILLIDAN! THE ILLIDARI CAN NOT BE STOPPED!
Trust me after reading Illidan's novel I began to hate myself for all the solos I did in BT. But I still enjoy beating the shit out of scourge zombies in ICC.
With the addition of 7.3, and the "You Are Now Prepared!" achievement for doing the Argus questline, Blizz lost out on quite possibly the best chance to introduce such a title.
I can't help but shed a tear every time I hear this. Black Temple was to me the most fun and memorable raid ever. I feel so lucky that I got to play in TBC.

I have spent a full night now just going back listioning to all these epic pieces of music. Let me tell you nastalgia has hit me like a fist. One thing however it has helped me realize that no matter what happens to this game it will always hold a special place in my heart. Blizzard has truely put their heart and soul into this game and the epicness that is wow is just off the scale. I am sure I can speak for all of us when I say thank you blizzard for allowing us to take a part in this story

To me this really captures Illidan's desperation... to become more powerful.. And also his great pride in the sacrifices he's made for that power... combined with the sadness of losing everything...
True, I play there for 2 months now, and the content what is out is pure blizzlike. I missed the old TBC days, and feenix wow brings back those memories ;)
Such a weird feeling listening to this and reading all these 10+-year-old. It's been 16 years since I was first here. Insanity. This was and is still the pinnacle of WoW
I miss the TBC, but i remember the first time than get up there, saw him, and wipe (2 weeks after the server changed to WotLK, and 1 week after i level up to 70), the raid disbanded, but i stay alone up there with Ilidan, the beautiful scenario than the sky show me, and with such and endless song, i never forget that
The difficulty to even get to BT(before nerfs), its amazing environment, the awesome music, the thoughness of advancing boss after boss and the history related to every single step you did in there made defeating Illidan one success so heartfilling that nobody out of the game could even imagine. It may be something "useless" for your quotidian life but some experiences in wow raids were really impressing and involved REAL feelings that made normal people feel triumphant for one day.
***** Even those 95% were well within their rights, since the concept itself was ridiculous. But each to their own. You liked it. You got an expac you liked. So Good for you.
***** The raid was originally designed as a 40 man level 60 raid. It was introduced near the end of Vanilla and was the hardest raid ever designed at that point. It stayed in that version throughout TBC as well, but Blizzard removed the original version, changed all the mobs and items, and put it as an intro level 80 raid in Wrath. It was the first raid that they fully *removed* from the game in its original form, followed by Zul Gurub, Onyxia's Lair, all the vanilla dungeons etc. Basically, Vanilla is dead on retail, and that annoys a lot of people, myself included.
Jordan Ehdieb "Vanilla is dead on retail" ...and? Aside from obvious nostalgia filter, what was so great about vanilla raids? Aside from, you know, nothing.
Rykanable The community of having 40 man raids. Yes some guilds had half of those 40 people do nothing. It was still an epic experience to have 40 people needed to take down a boss. And the learning experience where everything was not already explained in game. Vanilla was great, but TBC was perfect.
Illidan is not dead. He has gotten too mutch demonic energy. Demons never die they are only send back to the nether or void or what its called. Illidan will return.
He isn't a demon he is part Illidari part night elf and yes can die their is no such thing as the nether you should pay more attention to the story line. And this song is my jam
i always felt bad for illidan... he never meant to do anything wrong, for the most part, he was just trying to save his people, yes he made a few mistakes, and then in wow blizz just went and made him all out evil for some reason... he was such an awesome and complex character back in WC3 :(
There's something about Outland that makes me..uncomfortable. It makes me feel like it's a Sunday afternoon, that tired feeling. The Draenei architecture and some of the music I don't necessarily think are bad...however, they don't give me a "good" feeling. This music, however, is hands down the best music I've ever heard from WoW. Whenever I hear it, I feel like I'm standing in the middle of a forgotten world, lost. No one I can ask for help, no one even there. Just emptiness. Beautiful.
Old times... This soundtrack is perfect. Whilst in Black Temple, you can imagine how the previus, divine temple looked like. It remembers me of the sad story about Illidan and Akama. Also, Illidans corruption only began when he used arcane magic from the Well of Eternity. He was imprisoned for thousands of years (an experience that no doubt had a toll on his mind), further corrupted by the skull of Gul'dan, and then nearly cut in half by Arthas at the frozen throne. It just kind of sucked to be Illidan, always trying to do the right thing and always going about it in the wrong way.
@BarlytheDwarf I was there. I had already burned out on the game twice and come back to play it again after a few months off at a time. I'll guarantee you 99 percent of the people claiming TBC was some golden age started playing during TBC. Your first few months are always the best. Even so, the everything I loved about WOW in 2004 is still alive and well in the game today. The only thing that changed was me. You can't eat the same thing every day, no matter how much you love it.
@Brokengamezone You reminded me of the good days..Raiding MC and BWL...even when MC was on 'Farm' it still required an organized guild and good players to conquer it. That was when WoW was fun.
@Rennthar All that End Time instance kind of explained how. The Titans showed Nozdormu his death, and in return he created the Infinite Dragonflight by smashing time itself. From then on, Deathwing no.2 destroyed the world, and impaled Deathwing on Wyrmrest temple.
@TrickKae every new player i meet i pass on the advice to NEVER turn off the music, and in vent or other things like it during raids to only talk when you REALLY need to, so you can hear the music that makes this game that much more of a fantastic experience
When i first heard this theme in the Wrath of the Lich King theme music for the login screen it just amazed me. Say what you will about Blizzard and their decisions for the game over the years, but they still have a way to pay homage to their masterpieces and work hard to amaze us with even more works of art, like this music.
This song really brings out the feelings of Illidan. It starts off slow and mystical, Like how Illidan was in the beginning, Pure and good hearted. so many feelings in this song... i remember riding by the BT and feeling so small and puny compared to it. i hope blizz is able to bring that feeling once more.
The game isn't ruined.. you've played the game for a long time so it feels old, same with me. People who start playing now will have just as much fun as we did back in the day, you can't play a game forever and Blizzard can't keep it fresh as much as they would like to. Just the way it is.
@TimePeriod Over half the WoW playerbase never played the Warcraft games. This makes them sad. Those who were into the story, like destroying stratholme, or finding frostmourne. Or fighting off the demons at hyjal, heck, even stormed the black temple and imprison Magtheridon. Seeing those characters for those who cared makes the game more epic, as well as re-living the missions in WoW form. (WHich is why the Caverns of Time are the most amazing thing ever)
I would still say give it a try if you could. I began playing the game in late Vanilla and only started raiding after hitting the level cap in Burning Crusade. Those were some of my finest years. It does suck that you'll never experience the older content as it was meant to be, but there are various archives of these experiences all over the internet as well as UA-cam
Honestly, many people just accustomed to an original WoW or TBC or maybe WoTLK and they start to tell that it was better than others. Every of this expansions was some kind on unique from my side. Moreover, people are telling that there are no hard bosses in WoTLK or that they are much easier than before. Personally I think that Yogg-Saron with 0 keepers on 25-man version for example was extremely hard. And the music is wonderful, but I can't deny that it's getting better and better. GJ blizz
If blizzard released servers that only worked up to a specific expansion, like a server that only went up as far as BC content, I'd resubscribe in heartbeat.
You can find torrent, or even rapidshare for wow OST-s, but still its still goodjob you put it on here, so ppl can listen to it. God that game really is a masterpiece, each an all of the music And the storyline gets you and make you play it countless hours!!, Well wow ftw i guess
Odd or not, this music makes me want to cry... the slower parts of the piece, especially around 2:50 ish just remind me of how much fun I had with my guild back in TBC. WoW was a really unique experience for me, nothing like it now-a-days really...
Although my WoW days are over, I don't hold any bad memories of the game. Each xpack had its highlights, and I enjoyed them to the fullest. I wish Blizzard and all WoW players the best and brightest of futures. Fight on ladies and gents. Give em hell
theres music for the main lobby, then the first part of the dungeon, they have boss music for both the gunship battle and saurfang (though his might just be event music for the events after i think) then theres the upper floors which have slightly different variations of the themes heard in the first part like ulduar does, then you have seperate tracks for the next 3 wings, then you have Sindragosa with her own personal music, and finally Arthas whos music has not yet been revealed
It's weird. I haven't played WoW in years, I haven't read the Illidan novel, and I'm fully aware Blizzard loves to retcon lore at every avenue...and yet, after playing Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne, and while raiding Black Temple, something always felt...off. It never felt like an adversary we needed to defeat, and that motivations were not clear. Despite how incredible the raid was, our actions felt wrong somehow. Nice to see the new lore explore that, even if it might be viewed as revisionist by some, I certainly don't view it that way.
I want you to know I still find and listen to this video all the time. Still gives me chills, and this is the only place where I can seem to find it. Never take it down. Much love from Canada, October 2023.

Man, those were truly the days. That was the real reason we played.
I really hope icecrown citadel music and atmosphere is as epic as black temple was.
love this piece to bits. so many memorys:)
When you guys had this epic moment, I was leveling, I've lost so much.
For some strange reason this soundtrack gives me the chills. Maybe it's a nostalgia feeling for when I was raiding BT back in the days....good times
Nice to see the new lore explore that, even if it might be viewed as revisionist by some, I certainly don't view it that way.
all WOW has an Impresive sound track! this is awersome!
:D
The Black Temple was the single best raiding experience in my 4+ years of playing WoW.
The BEST days of WoW raiding (TBC). I will never forget the memories....
Hits right into the soul.
Wow, nice in depth explanation of your beliefs. You got me totally seeing your reasoning now.
I'm convinced.
2:00 and above. Pure Sorrowful, depressive music to get the mood down perfectly for the black temple, or in fact any tragic moment in life.
Weird how I loved to raid Black Temple in TBC, and now it bores the hell out of me. Guess challenge is a huge part of your enjoyment of something :P
Even after all these years - I am not prepared!
