Instead of pricking the Potato with a fork, I mark a cross on the flatter side. Just enough so that it aids the cooking, not too much that the potato is quartered. But putting olive oil on (before adding a pinch of salt) instead of butter is a great idea. Will try it!
I found your channel while in the hospital. your channel is amazing. I especially enjoyed the vegetarian cooking and the rice meals. once again thank you for having an amazing channel
Thanks: the baked potatoes look great! I'd suggest a combi approach to cooking these as an hour baking at 200C is less energy efficient than a few minutes in a micro wave before transferring to the air fryer for only 20 to 30 minutes on pre-heated 200C. Only an air fryer or traditional oven will make a fluffy potatoe with crisp skin, but tge micro wave is very energy efficient even at 800 - 900 watts.
Prick all over with a fork/skewer, 5 mins in Microwave, rub with oil and salt, finish in air-fryer (12-15 mins in my Ninja Foodi-depending on size). Same result.
Thank you for posting your comment. I followed the video's instructions and I still had to put them in a microwaveable bowl (with some water) and nuke them for six minutes to finish the job. The next time, I followed your advice, and only needed to add two minutes to your recommended airfry time.
Wow, 1 hour!! That was me thinking I'd save money on my electricity bill using an air fryer but 1hr is like the same as the oven :( Anyway first time so going to give it a try, thank you for your video! :)

Jennifer, never in my 30+ years of cooking a potato without poking it has it ever exploded so this is new to me! Lol well I guess you learn something new and I'd say in my opinion it's still done for an even cook! 😉😁🙌
@@MyLittleKitchenRecipes In my 30+ years of cooking, i've never NOT poked them, so now i am questioning if it really matters! LOL - Just what i was taught at home and in the restaurant biz...
I did 3 potatoes a while back and forgot to prick one of them. I’m still scraping bits of potato off the oven walls, trays and shelves! Resulted in2 lovely potatoes and 1 empty exploded skin 😂
@@tjpea7916 I'm not crazy!! huzzah! but sad to hear about the lost tattie! I recently gave it a go without pricking them, and all ended well...but i'm going to not be so brave in the future cause i fear cleaning more than a lost potato.
I always microwave my potatoes first so they are soft I put in the airfryer for 5 minutes each side no oil or salt they come out perfectly cooked I put them in a bowl rough mash adding extra virgin olive oil and grated cheese and black pepper. Taste yummy and uses much less energy.
Was it that length of time because there were 3 potatoes in there? Surely it doesn't really take that long in an air fryer i thought it took that long in a normal oven.
Instead of pricking with a fork I run a knife around the circumference of the patio. Don't cut to deep, 2 to 3 mm will do. Like pricking, it stops the potato exploding during cooking but also allows you to break the potato in half when cooked. Another tip is to cook them in the microwave before putting them in the air fryer. Reduces cooking time and is a little bit cheaper on energy.
John, the pre heat function works just like a conventional oven. So rather than putting food straight into a cold oven or basket In the airfryers case, it's brought up to the correct cooking temperature. Hope that helps.
I've not tried to be honest as we normally cook for four. It will depend on the size, I would cook for around 30-40 minutes and check with a fork or knife to see how they are.

you need 45 to 1 hour to get the skins crispy, yes you can mirco wave and cook them for 15-20 min air fryer but your not getting the same crisp, low energy prices i do 1 hour, when prices rise i do mirco and 15 min
A lot of faffing about just give them about 10/12 minutes in microwave on high, then 15 minutes in air fryer at 200 perfect spuds with great edible skins.
There’s a quicker way. Same prep..... Then Microwave 7/8 mins. @ 700 power. Then, 15mins at 200c in the airfryer turning half way thru. Or, cook until brown and crispy.
that seems an incredibly long time to do, it's the same time, if not longer, than in a gas oven...and, the gas oven would be cheaper to run. Wouldn't it be better to do the potatoes in a microwave for about 12 mins, then perhaps they'll cook in less than half an hour in the air fryer?
Here's another tip: when the potatoes are done, slam them on the counter, or cutting board once. It does a great job breaking up the inside a bit! Try it, it works!
I never do mine for that long, usually half an hour and then check to see if they need longer, and the electric used is a lot less than conventional oven
Wonderful to hear that. You do what works for you David but the Airfyers are more energy efficient than commercial ovens. My potatoes never cook in 30mins unless they're a wee little ones. I start mine in the microwave as its more economical in energy and cost and then 15 minutes in the AirFryer to crisper the skin
one hour in the air fryer is excessive - micro wave till soft then crisp up 15 - 20 mins
@@myhatmyseat9924 how many minutes would you recommend in an 800 watt microwave
@@alienc That would probably depend on the size of the potatoes.
@@myhatmyseat9924 Sounds excessive, and expensive, to me. Your suggestion is a good one though.
