  • Summer is in full swing, and today I'm sharing our summer homeschool plans and end of school year wrap up. Year round homeschooling is what works best for us, so a lot of our summer homeschool curriculum is what we've been using and loving throughout the school year. We've definitely made some curriculum updates though, which I fill you in on in this video. For the most part, we'll be homeschooling through the summer, but we'll definitely have a lighter homeschool summer routine for the month of July before kicking off our new school year in August.
    Does homeschooling year round work for your family, or do you prefer to take a longer summer break? Do you have special homeschool curriculum for summer? I love having a year round homeschool and spreading breaks throughout our year, but I'd love to hear what works for your family in the comments!

    Praying for you! I have been teaching from my room the last 2 weeks and while it has been a challenge, I think my little ones and I have grown so much closer and have enjoyed our time. I have seen such love and compassion in them it has blessed me beyond what I could have imagined. Blessings to you and your girls!

    I’m glad to see this! I used your older videos to gain a lot of perspective and get insight on different curricula as we started homeschooling this May for my oldest (love that we could start any time that worked for us with the flexibility of homeschooling!) So much homeschool content ends in June, so I’m glad to see what others are doing!

    Hi there, I’m new here! Really appreciate the time and effort that you’ve put into these videos. This year will be my first EVER homeschooling with my 2nd grader. I know this is how the Lord is leading us, and I am so happy to be here for the journey; but I have felt a tad overwhelmed at times. I feel like untraining myself from the public school jargon, if you will, is helpful. Trying to see this as a lifestyle and not something so highly controlled even on a daily basis. Anyways, again, I value the information your sharing and look forward to continue hearing from your experiences.

      Hi, Sarah! Thank you for your sweet encouragement! I’m praying you have a beautiful first year of homeschooling! Give yourself grace as you learn the rhythms and styles of learning what works best for your family. If the Lord is calling you to it, He will sustain you and provide all you need!

    We took a full week off of everything, then we restarted with Morning Time (which for us is just doing our Sonlight HBL C) and then my daughter does 2 Math pages a week and 2 writing prompts for the week. We call that Summer school. 😊 We’ll start adding more subjects in late August. 🥰

      Please take as much time as you need. When I had mine, I was cut from hip to hip, they couldn't do laser, so I had 8 weeks of recovery. So please take it easy. Praying for God to bless you during your recovery! I love all your videos. Keep up the great job you are doing. Give it to God!

    I love this video! Are you planning to use the language lessons (redone from the serl books) along with the gentle grammar? I have the original serl books and gentle grammar and I’m unsure if there is lots of overlap or if they compliment each other well.
    Also we just bought a bundle that had several simple studies and they look amazing!! It’s taking lots of self control to not just jump into them right now.
    Praying for your surgery! ❤

    • @TheHomeschoolConvert
      @TheHomeschoolConvert  2 роки тому

      Thank you for the prayers!
      There is some overlap, but I think they complement each other well. You could just choose one or the other though. My current plan is to keep them both in a loop and do them on different days next school year. If I find it becomes too redundant, I can always pull one out.

    Hi Piper! Thanks for hanging out. Does Piper participate in year round homeschooling also? 😉 We've been homeschooling year round as well. I posted a video about it but one year we decided to NOT school in the summer and let me tell you, it was not the right choice. You've got some great choices here. Thanks for sharing.

    • @TheHomeschoolConvert
      @TheHomeschoolConvert  2 роки тому +1

      Haha!! Piper can usually be found sitting at our feet while we homeschool!
      When we’ve had breaks longer than I intended, it always feels so hard to recover. Homeschooling year round just makes the most sense for us, personally.

    I'm super interested to hear more about Idlewild! How many units are in the curriculum? I looked at the sample online, and it looks fantastic. But looking at the list of topics, it definitely looks like more than you could cover in a year.

    • @TheHomeschoolConvert
      @TheHomeschoolConvert  2 роки тому +1

      There are 34 weeks of curriculum if you do a lesson four times a week. (There’s a creative movement prompt/field trip idea for the fifth day of the week.) My original plan was to stretch it out over two years, doing it two days a week with field trip ideas where we could fit them. It is a very rich curriculum, with lots of reading and art projects. You could definitely break it up over more than heat. I think we may try to complete it this year, but we may not get to every single art project.
