rengoku is that type of character in every show that created to die and become a stepping stone for the mc to become greater through an impactful experience. not every anime does it right but they did good here.
Yea :'(
Why my boy tho 😭😭
@@adankmemeindisguise1654 i say we make a petition to swap rengoku for murata to fight akaza instead

Rengoku stayed with us for such a short time but still manages to be my favorite Hashira along with Uzui. Sanemi is my third favorite but we won`t see much of him till the end of the series but danm rengoku made me cry a lot
Is Sanemi the Mist Hashira? I dont know any of the names, I think the Mist Hashira is cool just because of the fact hes in the same age range as Tanjiro, I think hes younger than Tanjiro so to be that strong at that age is pretty crazy
Edit: nvm his name is Tokito
@@One-Hundred yeah Sanemi is the wind hashira, I personally don`t like tokito or gyu because i find them boring but Tokito is freaking strong
@@rodrigofreitas1316 that's understandable, Tokito and Gyu do have pretty 'bland' personalities, Sanemi is cool too. I would like to see more of his fighting style in the anime since I dont read the manga, and now that I know who Uzui is I cant wait to see his flamboyant fighting style

That smile when his mom said "I'm proud of you" absolutely broke me. His smile really makes him look like the little kid he never got to be, despite his injuries :'(
It's incredible how a character who we barely saw in the anime (Not sure about the Manga as I haven't started reading it yet) had such a hugely emotional impact on viewers. I don't generally cry, but that's because I have trouble expressing those emotions, but this one drew it out from me along with my wife who was absolutely bawling.
just look oden, didn't saw him much but he had a huge impact
I don’t know about anyone else. But him seeing his mother, completely broke me
Happens every time
happened the same to me
fr i can't
Ive seen this scene like 8-9 times by now. Im crying every time
@Kyle Kelley and him asking her if he did good and her responding with " You made me proud" , something his father never said to him. This was so relatable as that's literally what every child strives for; to make their parents proud. Man I love this show and the author, it is conveying a lot of emotions very well; making it virtually relatable to everyone.
Alright guys, let's cry again together when Akaza's backstory get animated.
I wont forgive him for killing rengoku...BUT I STILL FREAKING LIKE HIM FOR HIS SAD BACKSTORY
@@raquelkiannaa1534 I mean it wasn't Akaza's fault he couldn't control himself when he became a demon
I don't even care about his story I bet it'll will be sad as fuck, but I will never forgive him for killing him.
Oh shit i remember that one. That hits different and real fucked up
to be fair, most characters in this series have sad story.
"Put your head up, be prepared for grief, and sadness. When death comes, time won't stop, *Keep The Heart Ablaze* , keep going, set your heart on your goal, always try."
"The young must try and bloom..."
- Kyojuro Rengoku... The once former Flame Hashira.
I never cried at anything but when rengoku's mom appeared and telling him she was very proud of him broke me apart.
The fact that Rengoku was able to block a full force punch from upper moon 3 (who was barely even tired) while being that intensely injured, and then being able to lock him down completely, to the point where he had to sever his own arms to get away......Rengoku had God tier level physical strength.
His physical strength rank top 3 of all hashira after gyomei and tengen uzui
@@nguyenmanhuc6501 um nope he equal to sanemi, giyu and mitsuri not he stronger
pretty sure akaza was trying to sever his arms all this time since it would have little to no impact on him but rengoku was stopping him from doing that
@@arishamsyar5835 you do know that Mitsuri is stronger than 8 men right?
@@giyuutapioca845 literally state in fanbook, mitsuri strength is equal to sanemi, giyu and rengoku
I managed to not cry until like the very end where his mother said she was proud and he smiled... That was the smile of a happy kid who's mom praised them
Congrats! I couldn't hold it in at all. As soon as Kyojuro admitted that he was gonna die, I started sobbing my eyes out and it only got worse as the movie ended! 😭😭😭😭😭😭
I'm still sobbing. :'(
Dude i broke down when the mother just showed up. That how true legends go. Asking their loved ones if they made them proud.
Alright, I knew he was going to die bc it was kinda spoiled for me but I didn't expect this I cried my eyes out like if a close relative of mine had died we only knew Rengoku for a short time but still ended up loving him

I feel robbed of one of the greatest characters in this anime. We didn’t get to experience more of Rengoku his death was too sudden for me 😭
To paraphrase Rengoku himself, a life being so transient and temporary is part of its beauty. I don't know if I agree with that, but it certainly seems to apply to him.
He certainly mirrors his element. The brightest flame burns fastest.
@@ScepterShard damn, this was deep. And his last words to Tanjiro: "set your heart ablaze", became the fundamental strength for Tanjiro in the latter part of the anime/manga.
Fact's

I love how we essentially barely know this guy, and Tanjiro only really interacted with him for one night, but his death still hits hard. He really was one of the good ones. No wonder all the other hashira liked him.

It's Inosuke's cries that made me cry, but it's that golden man's death that made me sad. Hearing his shouts and cries even with his tough voice that I wasn't used to hear made me burst out an ocean out of my eyes. Even though I hardly cry over anime. Demon Slayer's defenetly on my top anime list.
I rewatch this often. The manga itself was devastating (in the fact that he dies), but the way they adapted it to animation was just astounding.
The moments around his death just keep hitting you with blows that you don't expect:
- "Let's talk a bit one last time."
- "I believe in your sister"
- Mother's appearance
- "You made me proud."
- Rengoku's smile
- Crying Inosuke
- the fucking crow crying!
What a masterful way to create a legend in such a short time frame.
I love the way Rengoku is built, when we first see him, you like his design but didn’t think much of him, then when you see him in the movie you like his attitude and his demeanor, then when you get to know him, you hate the dad and all, you see just how much he cares for his brother senjuro, to the point that he didn’t care if his brother would be a hashira or not, he just wanted his brother to have his own path to follow. You then start to like kyojuro more and as the flashback of his mother appears, you remember that even though the children are like his dad, they still have the heart of their mother, and her speech and the way he teared up really attaches us to his character and his saddening speech. The last moments were what really made him so much likable, even if you never heard of demon slayer what I like is that he just wanted his mother to recognize and be proud of him. And that smile.... it’s too innocent and saddening that he finally got recognized. What’s more is that even though his dad was a douche, he still wanted his dad to take care of himself, and even in the 1st episode of the entertainment district arc, you don’t like the dad at first until his dad realizes and breaks down over the realization, the Rengoku family is the saddest family in the series. And the entire family really got our hearts. And I’ll always love the Rengoku family’s representation in the movie and the series. This series is worth the recommendation for anyone to watch. Also one thing I wanna point out
Remember how crows never really show emotions and are tasked to deliver the news and all? This makes me think, what if the crow got a chance to know about Rengoku, about his life, who he is, and what he is like, god thinking about it got me sad and it really makes sense. Like why would it cry before delivering the news? This is one of another great scene representation of how great Rengoku is
Sorry I’ll brb to cry my eyes out and buy more tissues
gives off that itachi feeling honestly
I will say that his dad just don't want to point himself weak. He drinks, to forget how much his son was respecting him. He wasn't bad at all.
?
Isn't the crow Rengoku's crow? They all get one when they enter the corp, so its likely its been with him for years. Its a partner of sorts. Its not too surprising it showed emotion at his death when you remember that.
I honestly have to give so much respect for the VAs for not breaking down completely when voicing these characters... I can't make it through watching this at all without balling my eyes out
plot twist
they were actually bawling their eyes out in the crying scene
Ive been watching anime for so many years, seen alot of sad scenes. Nothing made me cry more than this. My nose was runny, i was crying like a baby.....God damn, they did us dirty by taking him out early. I only watched this movie once and didnt want to watch it again because i knew it would hit hard again
bruh i remember reading this chapter on jump, i was on the bookstore, me and my friend all opened the new freshly bought jump magz and when we read this part, WE CRIED OUT LOUD AND WHEN WE SAW THE MOVIE WE CRIED. Even japan prime minister keep saying rengoku slogan, "keep you heart ablaze" he was an icon. Truly amazing character
Rengoku's smile was what got me
i tried... i tried so hard to don't cry but... i just couldn't hold it, especially when Rengoku saw his mother at 10:44 i was like: *"that's i can't hold it any longer..."* 😭 and when he basically died with a smile on his face... damn... 😭
Yeah😭😭😭😭😭I also cried
Youre weak

Ikr fucking cryed like a bitch
@@markelscott100 how does a bitch cry?
When any writer wants to kill off a character, they need to come and take notes from Rengoku's writing; a fictional death only matters when it is done right and when a character is so well-written that the loss feels real. And this applies no matter how long that character has had screen time. In fact, it's just beautiful how they were able to make us bawl our eyes out for a character who had little to no screentime in the series. But again, screen time also matters. That's why he needed to be in this movie. Even now, after viewing this scene a third time, I still wish he could come back to life. Rengoku has been humanized in such a way even with his cartoonish-hero persona. An excellently written character.
Every year I'm entering state of numbness to sad scenes in anime and for some time no sad story can make me cry until there comes that one freaking scene that just destroys me. Usually it happens maybe 2-3 months after I enter that state but, damn you Rengoku you didn't even let me reach 2 weeks. RIP you absolute legend.
This gets me everytime... Rengoku is just a amazing character.
When tanjiro started saying stuff like 'Rengoku didn't lose' 'He protected them till the end' it rlly broke my heart 💔
I just finished watching this episode last night and i didn’t expect to see a UPPER 3 ranked demon already, the way they introduced Akaza, so badass and how strong he really is, just to show you that upper ranked demons are nothing to fuck with.
The way they showed Rengoku as well, very strong, very fast, very smart. Still sad to see him go this fast. Made me cry like a bitch when he died. I thought Jiraiya’s death was hard.
For reference, there hasn’t been a single instance of a pillar killing an upper moon for hundreds of years. Tengen and Tanjiro broke that when they defeated gyutaro.
Upper ranks definitely aren’t something a single pillar can hope to take on alone.
I love the old dude, I see him in almost every reaction mashup, he's so wholesome
I watched this in the cinema and this scene was just too fucking much. I could hear sobbing everywhere around me.

Everyone in my theater was crying too
@@bookingtest5424 I'm in NJ and they showed it in select theaters. During the initial fight everyone was quiet and at the edge of their seats. Lots of cheers, gasps, and quiet "holy shits". Once Rengokus mother showed up, it was like all hell broke loose and everyone was crying. Men, women, teens, didnt matter everyone was crying.

Sad, rengoku was a great hashira he respects everyone even akaza. Glad that they didn't hate akaza coz his backstory is the saddest among all the demons
Why is that all the characters in ANY ANIME that die with a smile on their faces makes us all bawl like babies? I cried my heart out at Ace's death, Mikomi Satoru's {Rimuru Tempets' Incarnation} Death, and now this guy.

I watched Demons Slayer's first season and the movie for the first time a few weeks ago. I've teared up in several touching anime scenes over the years but this scene absolutely tore me apart, even though Rengoku didn't appear for very long in the overall story. It's so effectively executed and it makes you care deeply about him. I'm still thinking about it weeks later and I'm gathering strength to start the second season... the way this anime cultivates the viewer's empathy is remarkable.
Everything about this moment one after the other made it more and more emotional..rengoku getting punched through his stomach, the flashback of his dead mother, the unbreakable determination he had while holding alaza, tanjiro breaking down while saying that rengoku was the true winner, rengokus very heartfelt and emotional speech, his mom saying she's proud, his smile as he passed, the crow crying, tanjiro doubting himself, and this was the first time it's showed inosuke get truly emotional. Rengoku was respected by every hashira for good reason, rip to my favorite hashira.
