Lilly is not the leader of the group. The way Abel talks to her gives us some clues. He said, "there's no time for this" and "we got a job to do." That's not how you talk to a leader. It seems like they're sent out by someone else to recruit new soldiers.

I mean this is why I don't really like telltales games sometimes. "choose your story" there's no option to join Lilly or anything, everyone gets the same conclusion. Weather you choose to let Violet shoot or not probably will have no impact on the story.
You're right. There's no significant impact. If you tell Violet to shoot Lilly, she will only hit Lilly's shoulder and Abel will shoot at Louis and scratch his arm. That's about it. Violet and Louis still run away after it and Lilly and Abel still chase you.
Besides, people play this for the narrative change - if you actually want your choices to make huge impacts - play Detroit Become Human or Until Dawn. Either way, there are few but still big choices in this game series.

I always wanted Lilly, Christa and Molly to come back, but now that I think about it; I'm glad Christa and Molly never returned. Think of every character who makes a return of some sorts - it never ends well for them. (Kenny, Jane, Every 400 Days character who comes back in some form, Edith, Lilly and Eddie) All of those characters either die or their fates are left unknown.
I generally liked Lilly in Season One. She could be temperamental and bitchy sometimes and her dad didn't help, but she genuinely seemed to care for the group and I'd usually side with her over Kenny. All that went out the window the moment she started shooting at Clem and AJ when they were running from her (And I still haven't forgiven her for Carley/Doug's death).
Honestly, if i was given the choice i would have gave up everyone in a heartbeat. Look the only people i care about in this Season is Clem and AJ. Everyone can go die (and they will) and I won't give a fuck. These people sent a fucking 6 year old and a young girl into the wilderness. I get that they were pretty pissed about Marlon getting killed but they could have at least given us more supplies so they could actually have a chance (such as more weapons, or food for example). Actually scratch that Tenn is pretty okay (too bad he's going to die)

Adults don't change their face structure that much in 8 years until they start entering their 60s-70s. 30-50 faces remain *mostly* the same, with a few changes here and there, but nothing like Lilly's model change. It's purely because of the different engines. It happened to Kenny and Jane in S3.
