I think the accent is wonderful, most Merthyr people are really lovely, and most important the Blackout, one of the best bands on the planet, are from Merthyr. Be proud, people of Merthyr!!!!
Don't be embarrassed by the accent it's where we are from....well i left for London 33 years ago but still return now and then. Can't believe i saw my uncle Bill Thomas walking past behind one of the women speaking in the precinct brings back happy memories of going to Merthyr as a child with my mam!!
Music mania, Fosters, Broncos, living, Lonsdale bar, castle cinema, zone nightclub, old indoor Market, liptons, great places, my father had the cane and flowers shop in town for many years
Thank you for the memories and Merthyr accent - is this available without the piano.? Sorry to ask - Merthyr born - formerly Castle Street, Church Street - in London since 1972
I lived in Merthyr from from September 1982 to March 1983, I went to Pen yr Dre high school. I grew up in Bargoed so I wonder if you can do video called ''Bargoed town centre stories, especially as the town is now going through a regeneration.
I have a question for people living in Merthyr because when I used to go to Pen - Y -Dre High School, this 1 day me and another girl at the time done work experience in a shop that used to sell mostly home furniture and maybe other things for the house but this shop used to be where Wilko is and this work experience this girl and I done was back in the 1990's but I can't think of the name of the shop?
@@annehampton5807 all I can think I remember is I think it was called Living and it used to be where Wilkinson's was that after some time changed it's name to Wilko and now there is no Wilko store in Merthyr Tydfil any more.
Yes Carl , I can only remember it being Living furniture store and part of the store being co op. There is a Wilko shop up the retail park . Must confess even though I born and raised in Merthyr and still living here I rarely go out because of ill health. I can't remember the last time I was in Merthyr town shopping centre. 😊
The man was right about the "faggots and peas upstairs in Victoria Street." It was on the right hand side as you walked down from the High Street. I went there a few times in the mid-fifties. And a memory of Woolworths from long ago. I was in Woolworths aged six, with my mother, when the place went crazy. People shouting and cheering and rushing out into the High Street where there were many more doing the same thing. The reason? It had just been announced over the shop's loud speaker that WWII in Europe had ended!
If you love spice and heroin then yes, it's a great place. If you want a job centre on your doorstep, then it's fantastic! If you like the smell of fags, chips and sewerage, then you will love "Merfa" .
“One hour away we used to treat it like a holiday” these backwards bastards would make you think there was a 15 hour hike down from Merthyr. You can drive to the centre of Cardiff within three quarters of an hour 😂
