Many thanks to the bro who pointed out that the MTW2's 7 hour battery is with ANC turned off, that with ANC you'll get only about 4 hours of battery and up to 16 hours with case! That's a lot less than the Sony WF-1000XM4s. 👍🏻

I had hoped sony would improve with the mx4 but seems that's not the case. The only thing missing from the Sennheisers is wireless charging.
I was about to purchase the Sony's, but I'm glad I chose the Sennheisers. I'm an audiophile and I despise boomy sound with muddy bass, high highs and reduced mids; basically, the V-shape that lots of products apply by default. If you listen to acoustic music, you need a clear cut bass, precise mids and velvet highs. Basically, a flat response. Only through a flat response you can feel transported to the venue where the recording was made because it captures all the nuances of the space and materials. If you listen to electronic music that was never recorded in a real space, then it doesn't matter. As an audiophile, I avoid ANC because it alters the original sound, and it sometimes feels like there is pressure applied to your ears. The Sennheiser implementation is subtle and doesn't seem to distort much. The best way to isolate noise is with a tight fit. This the only thing I wish the Sennheiser had, as they don't provide the option of using foam tips. I'm surprised with this review regarding the call sound quality; I expected Sony's to excel, but the Sennheiser are much better, not sure if they are better than the Jabras. But i rarely talk long on earbuds, i use them to enjoy music, but is nice to know that when I've been called, the quality is good. Looking forward to find an excuse to upgrade to the Momentum 3 :P
The consensus online indicates that Sennheiser earbuds have the best sound quality. I'm surprised they also have better phone call quality than Sony. Glad to see Sennheiser has added a 3-band equalizer to their App. Sennheiser wins IMO.
The consensus online that they are the best for sound was mostly formed before Pi7 and xm4 released ,the reddits I read from the past week or so say xm4 with ldac are better than sennheiser and b&w Pi7 have the best sound and build quality but they are more expensive and have worse battery life, the best one depends person to person, some care about battery, some care about sound, some care about the looks.
In India , the maximum price reduction for Senny TW2 was only 20% (unlike upto 33% in USA and other countries) , and that too during amazon prime 2 day sale. After the sale , they are back to their original price with no discount or at times , 5% discount. Also , airpod pro and senny TW2 cost exactly the same original price in India. No idea why. Note that taxes are high in India and we eventually end up paying atleast 20% more than US/UK markets, for these premium products , which stings a little. Sony WF-1000MX4 still not available in India , and may be is getting delayed due to COVID-19 situation.
Thank you for the comparison, Aaron! As an audiophile I will still stick to the Sennheiser TW2s. The Sonys are trying to make them sound "Sony style" to much. I know, many people like this, but it's not for me. And I'm surprised, that those "old" TW2s by Sennheiser can still keep up there lead position.

The most important thing about earbuds is how they FIT, and you have to make that call by trying them. I'd be interested in knowing if the Sennheiser Tile functionality now works.
Nice side-by-side test. I was able to hear the difference and the SM TW2 sounds much better. I wish the sony's had better depth... I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
a little late to the party but this is quite a comprehensive video! very informative with real life demonstrations and an ease of understanding without too much of the technical jargon, very well done! a great fellow Sgrean video!
Great video, really concise and real to life discussion and really methodical and practical testing of the features of each pair. You smash these kinds of reviews.
Can I use all options in Sony thru taps and touches (like in Sennheiser)? like play/stop, next/prev, volume +/-, NC on/off, ambient sound so for example: play/stop - tap left next - 2 tap left prev - 3 tap left volume up/down - long press left / right NC on/off - 3 tap right ambient sound - 2 tap right
I'm a HUGE Sennheiser fan (love their open back headphones), but went with the Sony's as they have better tech and the sound still seems good in comparison. Glad this video confirmed my thinking.
Same here, although my reasoning included that Sennheiser is dropping their headphones line so there will only be limited support in future, also I have the WH-1000XM4 cans so it's nice to have them match. Very happy with both.
@@exus98 No, I was very tempted by them but already having and loving the WH-1000XM4s and wanting a 5 band EQ, the WF seemed the logical choice. I am blown away by the sound quality with the WFs (even better than the WH IMHO) so I can hardly imagine them being very much better.
@@SimonP2 I wonder if the WF-1000XM4 sound is better than my WH-1000XM2. I’m very curious about these but took the WF-1000XM3 back due to not fitting my ears.
My personal conculsion for Audiophiles who are looking specifically for the best option when not wired to your amp and dac at home: When using Aptx the momentum TW2 has slightly better imaging and specifically depth, soundstage and detail retrieval even when manually setting these Sony TW XM4 at LDAC 600 in Android developer options. If they could only keep a stable 24bit/96 at specifically 990Kbps on any device there just wouldn't be a comparison due to the bitrate/transmission bandwidth being so so much higher. Conclusion the Momentum TW3s if they support APTX-HD specifically and LDAC 990Kbps specifically will be the best for sound quality. The design of the B&W Pi7, when in its super high resolution wired retransmission mode, still for some reason (probably topology design/engineering itself) sounds like it is less detailed than the Momentum TW2s. For Bluetooth quality the top two are still over ear: The now approx $350 Audeze Mobius when in LDAC at 600 (or 900 if you can get it stable) and the now approx $800 Hifiman Ananda BT
I've been comparing these two and, even with the WFs connected at 990kbps, the TW2s sound a lot better, which surprised me. Imagine the TW2s with LDAC!
Keep in mind that features are easy. Sound quality (why you buy the earbuds in the first place), is what separates quality from the also rans. I might also remind listeners that good drivers allow you to listen to music at a low volume while still enjoying all its fidelity. If you feel the urge to have to turn up the volume to hear all the fidelity of the music, that's usually a telltale sign of lesser quality drivers.
I often use my buds for quiet sleep. I mostly don't play music at all, only engage ANC and enjoy the silence. But nobody seems to be testing buds for sleep comfort. Do they fit well, do they fall-off easily, do they give irritation to the ear, how about the ANC, do they have the unpleasant hiss? Those are very important questions for someone who wants to sleep in comfort, no matter how loud their kids play, or the partner is snoring. Could you, please-please, maybe, keep this idea in mind for the future reviews? That would be great, and pretty unique testing characteristic too.
My Momentum TW2 died today, exactly 10 days after the end of the 2 year warranty. Prior to these, I had the original 1st edition of the TW momentum. Between battery issues and this last disappointment, I am done with Sennheiser. Time to check out other earbud makers.
Great video, I went and bought the Sennheiser MTW2, it was the clear phone call and the ANC made the decision. Although I do have the PXC-550II headphones, so I was a little bias lol
Great review. Been struggling with which one to buy. I decided to go with the Sony's because of one major reason- returnability. With the massive price tags on both, I feel this is important. Costco sells the XM4's and anything goes wrong, back they go, no extra cost. Reason 2, wireless charging. Not available on Senn's. Reason 3, the size of the damn Senn case! Wont fit in my little pocket on my jeans, not great for transportation. Reason 4.... the new Senn's are out next month. Hope this helps.
I was about to buy Sennheiser but then I remembered that Sony has individual functionality with each ear bud compare to Sennheiser. My job requires me to have situational awereness so Sony will be my pick. THanks for the review man!
Great video, been waiting on this one. Just bought the SMTW2 and wasn’t a big fan of how they fit. Like you said, they seemed “loose”. I loved everything else about them. I ended up returning them because just didn’t like the feel. Sticking with my habits 65’s for now. Looking to try the Sony’s to see if I like the fit better.
Aaron, sorry but battery life of 7h for MTW2 is with AAC(not aptx)bluetooth codec and ANC off, while the Sony XM4 is 8hours with ANC ON and 12 hours off thay s a huge difference ( almost double) with a total of 36 hours Also you cannot compare ldac and aptx bitrate
Thanks for pointing that out, just posted a correction! By the way, LDAC's bit rate is varied up to 990kbps but aptX's is fixed at 352kbps. I just delivered it in a simplistic way.
Difícil decisión, pero yo me iría más por los Sony, la calidad de construcción y durabilidad es muy superior, los momentum TW2 suelen fallar muy rápido.
Absolutely true! I’ve been using the TW2 for about a year after having to get warranty replacements on the TW1 about 6 times!!!! Now the TW2 won’t charge properly, no matter what I try. Down to 50% after a full charge, utter shite! Sennheiser sold their domestic product division to a Chinese company a few years ago & they’re still allowed to sell under the sennheiser name!! That’s dirty business & misleading customers, f**k sennheiser!!
Thanks so much for the video, and I just want to bring up the price of SMTW2 has became 249 CAD at this Black Friday 2021 in CA, which makes it more affordable.
Been waiting for this video, but the conclusion is not clear, you stated the features compared to each other, but i think, what we really wanna know is which pair sounds best for each of us, the information about how they sound in your conclusion, audio sample on next eps maybe?
In the headline of the video he says REAL ANC KING but never told us who was the new KING. He asked us what we think...I didn't come for my opinion...I came for his opinion which he didn't give us.

Even with the latest firmware my TW2 has quite serious latency issue. I doubt these have the sync codec or whatever. Streaming movies from ipad shows how late the lip sync is etc. That is very dissapointing. However in terms of sound … the loudness and superb sound these are amazing.
@Aaron is Loud and Wireless, have you tried using the wf-1000xm4 in heavy wind? (like on a bicycle?). I had the wh-1000xm4 (over ear headphones) and really enjoyed the wind reduction function. Now im thinking of buying the earbuds because the headphones malfuncioned. Does the windreduction function on the earbuds work well in heavy wind?
Ive used the xm4 while going 90 mph in a car on the highway and I didn't notice a difference between wind mode and ANC mode. Dunno how useful strong wind on a bicycle would be as you need ambient noise so you don't get hit by a car
Hey Aaron, thanks for this review. Forgive me if I ask, what is the name of that gun app that you are using in testing the game latency? I want to install it too. 🙏😊
I don't have the Sennheiser, but I do have the Bose QC and I compared them with the new Sony's and agree with you that the Sony's are not very comfortable.
That's because they didn't include instructions for using memory foam ear tips, you're supposed to pinch them and drive out the air then put them in your ears, do this for 2-3 days of normal use until they take shape, once they take shape you can use them as normal and won't build air pressure. The first foam tip ear buds I bought had these instructions with them, the one in this one worked the same way but they didn't put the instructions in the back as they should have. There's UA-cam videos from cnet and the verge that also tells you how to use memory foam from some other earphone review videos. Honestly they should have included a seperate manual for it so people would notice.
I've had the Sennies TW2 for almost a year so the question for me is since I've already forked $300, are the xm4s adding enough to justify an additional $280? You answered that question for me, they don't.
@@exus98 But when I get some extra cash, I'm treating myself to the mx4s because I bet they sound great. I had the Wf-1000xm3s and I liked them a lot. Aaron says these are better.

Hi Aaron, I have AirPods Pro and sennheiser tws2, I’m an Apple user and I’m looking for a 3rd pair because I have earphones in my ears all day and the batteries on those go fast. Do you have a recommendation for me?
I've been using the Sony wf-1000xm3 since they came out and I gotta say, these things are built like a tank. I can't count the number of times I've dropped the earbuds from 2-3 meters up into aluminium floor without any problems arising, I've showered with the on even though they have no ipx rating with out problem. These earbuds have taken more abuse than most earbuds will in their lifetime so it's an easy choice for me when deciding to upgrade. I really hope the quality of the xm4 is on par with the xm3.
TW2 with LDAC, and independent BT per earbud connection sounds like amazing product. I have yet to go for wireless charging equipement, so that is not a point for me.
Great work as always Aaron! Keep them coming to help us consumers out. I'm curious to know when the new Bose QC will come out as I'd expect them to improve in size/portability and battery life. LOVE your side by side comparisons...other reviewers need to learn from you!
I am a fan of Sennheiser and I have some line of their product which is momentum. But for earbud, I bought Wf1000xm4 for my leisure listening. Even the function of xm4 is just superb, their anc functioning well, but I still found that sennheiser have more clarity, more detail, good separation and like the video say, have deeper sound stage. Because I am more into sound quality rather than any function. But somehow because of xm4 hype (and it is cheaper too), I grab for Sony. But Xm4 work great and I love them. But I still miss the Sennheiser sound quality.
Sennheiser is clearly much better for calls and for music listening. In ANC, while pretty much equal, Sony has that annoying hiss. But I like the Sony's case so much better, it is compacter and fits into the jeans pocket. Now it's about the time for B&O to release the ANC version of their BeoPlay's, or Bose to make their QuietComrorts in the smaller form-factor, and I will not know what to chose again. Thank's fro the review, very professional!
I have the 75t's, had em for about a year and now they don't even connect to my phone lmao. I've had so many issues with them and outta frustration I've thrown the buds so that's why they don't work. Even still though, the call quality on the 75ts was straight ass fr, I always had to speak up. The sound and allat was good but I know there were better options out there. I heard though that the 85ts were terrible though so there's no need for comparison seeing as the jabra don't even compare fr.
Had to return the Sony’s. I loved the sound, volume level and ANC. Only thing is if HURTS my ears. My ears even got dented because I forced to wear it for a long time. I was so disappointed. My MTW2 is still my go-to… although the battery life diminished after having it for 1 year. I can only get 4 hours now. Anyways, I hoped that the Sonys worked for me since I wanted to keep them
I'm happy if friends with user experience using these two brands of headphones can help I'm using a Samsung s21 ultra 5g phone and from these two earphones, which is sweat and water resistant, anc noise canceling and very good dolby stereo music sound and speech and which headset should I buy thanks good luck
I just got the Sennheiser MTW 2 about a week ago. Been using it pretty much daily. Its sound quality is exceptional. However, I feel extremely uncomfortable wearing them. They hurt my left ear quite a bit while the one on the right is fine, although after awhile, I started to feel a little discomfort on the right as well. I will test them out for another week or so. If they keep hurting, I'll have to return them to get the Sony WF-1000XM4 to try them out.
@@cammyaustralis Right. Ambient mode on those are decent. It blocks out pretty much all low frequency noises. They're not good at blocking out high frequency noises like metal clankings or stuff like that. Although I can say that for me, they blocked out all chatters from people. The spikes and sudden noises do bleed in though, but that happens to pretty much all noise cancelling earbuds I believe. Overall, I say they do well in noise cancelling, especially when you have music playing, you won't hear anything except for occasional spikes of noise here and there.
@@cammyaustralis Amazon is currently out of stock on those XM4's but they said my order would arrive on Monday. I'll test them out then I can come back and give you a brief summary of my experience on those.

I had the Sennheiser now for a month. I can say that with ANC on, they lasted nearly 5 hours. ANC cancel low range perfectly, they disappear completely. High pitch noises still come through too sharply.
Been there, done that, got a lot of flack from people saying that it sounds nothing like their headphones. Microphones don't pick up sounds like human ears.
I’ve been using the sennheisers for a few hours but I typically use them at work with only one ear in. The ear I use if my left so having to change that is a bit strange. @@liormiz5 Sennheisers were definitely louder and had better bass response. Mids and highs were spaced out. the biggest deal breaker for me will always be the master-slave connection issues. I dont know why this isnt the gold standard for every single pair of earphones. went with the sony for this reason and I dont regret it one single bit.
used xm3 before and changed to sennheizer mtw2. For wider sound stage and anc level, xm3 is better, for sound frequency range is sennheizer better. I think xm4 is worth to buy as it is more portable and with up to date technique & better than aptx.
I've brought the xm4 a week before. The sound quality is comparable with sennheizer mtw2 provided you to "enhance " it using the app's equaliser. The default setting was a bit more to the bass and will cause the lost of highs. After that, the sound quality is much better but I can say that sennheizer is still a bit better as I can notice that the sound is a bit thicker than xm4. But for phone calls quality, xm4 is the definite winner and that's the reason why I went for it. Hope these thoughts help.

Sony is close behind but can still be tweaked to challenge the Sens…
The most important thing about earbuds is how they FIT, and you have to make that call by trying them. I'd be interested in knowing if the Sennheiser Tile functionality now works.
That’s not the most important thing, most earbuds should have a decent enough fit
Nice side-by-side test. I was able to hear the difference and the SM TW2 sounds much better. I wish the sony's had better depth... I'd buy them in a heartbeat.
Thank you for your review. You went over many features and normal use things that many other reviewers don’t explain or bother to show. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
How much is the difference in sound quality between them, can you tell in %?
a little late to the party but this is quite a comprehensive video! very informative with real life demonstrations and an ease of understanding without too much of the technical jargon, very well done! a great fellow Sgrean video!
Great video, really concise and real to life discussion and really methodical and practical testing of the features of each pair. You smash these kinds of reviews.
Thank you! Much appreciated!
Can I use all options in Sony thru taps and touches (like in Sennheiser)? like play/stop, next/prev, volume +/-, NC on/off, ambient sound
so for example:
play/stop - tap left
next - 2 tap left
prev - 3 tap left
volume up/down - long press left / right
NC on/off - 3 tap right
ambient sound - 2 tap right
Do either of them support multiple devices at the same time?
I'm a HUGE Sennheiser fan (love their open back headphones), but went with the Sony's as they have better tech and the sound still seems good in comparison. Glad this video confirmed my thinking.
Same here, although my reasoning included that Sennheiser is dropping their headphones line so there will only be limited support in future, also I have the WH-1000XM4 cans so it's nice to have them match. Very happy with both.
Did you ever own the Sennheiser MTW2,?
@@exus98 No, I was very tempted by them but already having and loving the WH-1000XM4s and wanting a 5 band EQ, the WF seemed the logical choice. I am blown away by the sound quality with the WFs (even better than the WH IMHO) so I can hardly imagine them being very much better.
@@SimonP2 I wonder if the WF-1000XM4 sound is better than my WH-1000XM2. I’m very curious about these but took the WF-1000XM3 back due to not fitting my ears.
MTW2s sound way crisper imo.If only when MTW3s come out with similar specs of wf1000XM4s or better, sony won't stand a chance.
Until Sony releases their new version of wireless earbuds LOL it never ends bud. Always going to be a competition.
You shouldn’t be sleeping with earbuds on

My Momentum TW2 died today, exactly 10 days after the end of the 2 year warranty. Prior to these, I had the original 1st edition of the TW momentum. Between battery issues and this last disappointment, I am done with Sennheiser. Time to check out other earbud makers.
Great video, I went and bought the Sennheiser MTW2, it was the clear phone call and the ANC made the decision.

Did they fit better lol
Aaron, sorry but battery life of 7h for MTW2 is with AAC(not aptx)bluetooth codec and ANC off, while the Sony XM4 is 8hours with ANC ON and 12 hours off thay s a huge difference ( almost double) with a total of 36 hours
Also you cannot compare ldac and aptx bitrate

Been waiting for this video, but the conclusion is not clear, you stated the features compared to each other, but i think, what we really wanna know is which pair sounds best for each of us, the information about how they sound in your conclusion, audio sample on next eps maybe?

Even with the latest firmware my TW2 has quite serious latency issue. I doubt these have the sync codec or whatever. Streaming movies from ipad shows how late the lip sync is etc. That is very dissapointing. However in terms of sound … the loudness and superb sound these are amazing.

Now im thinking of buying the earbuds because the headphones malfuncioned. Does the windreduction function on the earbuds work well in heavy wind?
I have not ridden a bicycle in ages...
@@aaronloudnwireless oh, have you however tested them in heavy wind (of otherwise normal wind)?
I have tes and they are not good. Does not work much. I use the Jabra elite 75t.
Ive used the xm4 while going 90 mph in a car on the highway and I didn't notice a difference between wind mode and ANC mode. Dunno how useful strong wind on a bicycle would be as you need ambient noise so you don't get hit by a car

Great work as always Aaron! Keep them coming to help us consumers out. I'm curious to know when the new Bose QC will come out as I'd expect them to improve in size/portability and battery life. LOVE your side by side comparisons...other reviewers need to learn from you!
Thanks for that, you're very kind!
Xm4s versus Jabra elite 75t's or 85t's
The Jabras dont compete for ANC with Sony
Anyways, I hoped that the Sonys worked for me since I wanted to keep them
Maybe you should have used silicone ear tips? This change has helped many people judging by reviews.
Did you also feel the Sonys to be noticeable louder than the Sennheisers? Which one did you prefer regarding the sound quality?

I just got the Sennheiser MTW 2 about a week ago. Been using it pretty much daily. Its sound quality is exceptional. However, I feel extremely uncomfortable wearing them. They hurt my left ear quite a bit while the one on the right is fine, although after awhile, I started to feel a little discomfort on the right as well. I will test them out for another week or so. If they keep hurting, I'll have to return them to get the Sony WF-1000XM4 to try them out.

@@cammyaustralis Are you asking about the MTW 2?
@@vuduong173 yes... I’m thinking between those, Galaxy Buds Pro and Sony Wf-1000xm4’s. I want the one with the best Ambient function.
@@cammyaustralis Right. Ambient mode on those are decent. It blocks out pretty much all low frequency noises. They're not good at blocking out high frequency noises like metal clankings or stuff like that. Although I can say that for me, they blocked out all chatters from people. The spikes and sudden noises do bleed in though, but that happens to pretty much all noise cancelling earbuds I believe. used xm3 before and changed to sennheizer mtw2.
